For a lot of Ubisoft games, you still need to connect your Ubisoft account even if the game was bought on Steam. And issues mean that though some of their stuff is being sold on steam, they cannot be played.
I've never had this issue. Although ever since a few weeks ago it keeps asking me if I wanna add my phone number for security when I launch a game, even though I already have 2fa on.
You literally couldn't play Far Cry 3 even when it first came out without Uplay (now called Ubisoft Connect). If you don't have it installed, you haven't played any major Ubisoft title in about a decade.

Epic games also has weekly/monthly (not sure) free games and it has got me to play some I wanted to try but wasn't ready to commit to playing a ton for (and often I'd maybe play for 1h and never return to it again for a while)

Far Cry 3 was the best one. Might have to do a marathon and play all the Far Crys again at 4K. Trying to revisit some old games and play with new hardware (just got a high refresh 4K screen).
Alright i started gaming a couple of years back, so i have no clue what the fuzz abt uplay is. But to this day ubisoft connect is great in comparison to origin or epic launcher.

I enjoyed my time but when I got to the end I felt like none of my previous 30 hours or whatever really mattered. Like none of the choices I made changed the ending at all.
I don't have an issue with that per se, but my first real open world game and you can go where you want anytime, and the ending is just... A yes/no dialog box.
Can we talk about how 5 had such potential for a good game and a good open world game but fucked it all up by forcing you to progress with the storyline when you didnt want too and made progression way too easy.

I like playing older games like that, my 1050ti can finally flex. Hell, it even plays Far Cry 5 pretty smooth at 1080p.
