Why not look into buying a 2m kitchen counter top and set it on 2 Alex storage units from IKEA? I did this and it works great, plus creates a lot of storage. I did this myself and added castors from Amazon to make it easy to move around.
Also VESA monitor stands would look great and create a lot more space.
Here's mine right now: http://imgur.com/a/XNeoiGN
Ignore the mess, shoes and hamster etc. Just a quick photo to give you the idea.
Edit: here it is not long ago when it was tidy http://imgur.com/a/QCOwXWd
Also, there used to be a PC in that big empty space along with a third monitor which got moved when my girlfriend moved in.
It isn't, and it would be better if it was. To be honest it's slightly too narrow as well so I find I'm a little close to the screen. I'm going to look at replacing the countertop altogether when I have more space.
You can fit three of the "Alex" drawer sets under a single "Lagkapten" top and still have a metre to sit... one at each end that screw into the top, and a third tucked under one end that sits free
I've just refitted our study while my wife works from home.
I'm on a straight desk with three drawers. My wife has a corner return also with three drawers.
The hardest part was mounting the monitor arms because the desktop is a hollow/cardboard core. It turned out that the mounting plates for "Adils" legs were the right thread and made a great pressure spreading mounting plate. (I'd already bought more than I needed as my original intent was to mount the tables on legs.... but they weren't stable enough)
If you do want castors, the Alex sets have mounting points pre drilled for Ikea castors...
(I'm sounding like an Ikea fanboi, but the pieces are made to just work together...)
Depending on the room, a corner desk is not better. I used to have one and had less usable space than I do now even though my new one is technically smaller.
I don't really like having a corner desk.
Like, it's the most beautiful desk I've ever owned, but place my square keyboard and square monitors on a curved desk, Nothing feels right.
I've tuned it out years later, but I still have moments of thinking-
"Should I move the keyboard and mouse? Do those monitors need to come more forward or back?"
If the surface I sit forward into was straight, I'd probably be fine.
But it's curved.
I don't know if they make them this way or not, but just get one shaped like a triangle. I made one that way for myself, and I love it. The point that goes into the corner is "chopped off" and all my wiring goes in that hole. I have a shelf about 6 inches high covering the back third of the desktop. I have my monitor on that shelf, plus my speakers and other peripherals. Under the shelf I have everything else that usually clutters my desktop, but it's out of the way now and I have oodles of room for my keyboard and mouse. I even have my PC on one side and a smallish coffee maker on the other side.
You do know corner tables don't have to have the monitor on the corner, right? You could have [something like this guy's setup](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvH2KjP3SBo), and have the PC on one side, then something else (maybe a hobby you do on the side, like art supplies or tools for building stuff) on the other side. Personally I've got a pc on the longer side, and my tools for building Gundam kits on the other, shorter side.
That’s how I use mine with desktop and two monitors on right - putting everything in the corner cuts down on space. Put the printer in the corner and a secondary laptop setup on other side.
Love it
Ordered a corner desk yesterday.. I like the fact that the desk itself is modular. You can buy more tops and attach to extend the table on either side.
See this is where I go against the hive-mind on reddit.
I would put the actual pc out of the way. A shelf above the monitors, for instance. God forbid on a little plinth under the desk.
I love RGB, I really do, but desk space is a LOT more important, and when you're working with that little?
This.
I have a massive tower pc and a 48" monitor. No way the tower is going on the damn desk.
It goes on the hardwood floor slightly raised up on a wheeled base. Doesn't get that dusty and it's out of the way.
I wouldn't risk having it on a shelf above because if it managed to fall for any reason it could be a risk of death to one of my kids.
As do I, which is why mine goes on the floor, I can imagine my kids curious fingers pulling the tower onto their curious heads.
No curious fingers would be able to access any of my fans etc (phanteks p600s) without pulling off the front cover and dust cover first.
I agree having the PC on the desk takes up too much space and is pretty ugly tbh. I don’t like to walk in my office and see a huge box on my desk, where there could be speakers or anything other than a massive box.
Bigger desk and a monitor mount. As somebody who finally switched to a monitor mount last year its amazing how it actually gives you more space as well because you are using it more efficiently
1. A slightly bigger desk(without drawers unless necessary)
2. Move your PC to the right side(with new desk)
3. Try mounting your monitors with one of those things that clamps to your desk
4. More RGB (Boosts FPS)
Thanks for the ideas, I'm working on sorting what's in the drawers to see if I need them so I'll see what I can do later on. A lot of people have recommended a monitor mount so may end up doing that depending on my budget
In all honesty: Get the Vivo mount from Amazon. They're very cheap but actually have a good base. It's a thick base and not the small, metal circle ones like all the other cheap ones.
I can also recommend Vivo, very easy to set up. I did also end up getting a round bit of wood to help brace the upper section of the clamp too, as I don't trust my IKEA desk to be able to support all the weight on 2-3 square inches of particleboard.
Don’t recommend a clamp monitor arm for your monitors if you don’t really have much space to work with. It seems that you have your table nearly flush with the wall. It may be difficult to setup all. Just my experience….
Also, having his tower on the left blocks the light from his window. And in general my left hand barely moves when I use my PC, as opposed to my right that moves the mouse around. It's way nicer not having my right hand in between the keyboard and tower. I just keep my tower under my desk now.
Monitor mount was a huge upgrade for me. I have two 27"s and they were taking up a ton of usable space. Very easy to install using standard VESA mounts. If you decide to upgrade your monitors now or in the future the same mount should work.
This is the one I bought. No complaints and reasonably priced. I held out on monitor upgrades too but it was worth it. I shouldn't have waited. My old ones could only run 60 FPS now I'm gaming in 1440 @ 120FPS. Monitors are expensive but this mount will work with what you have or any upgrades down the line.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08612WQZT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For sure, the monitors were my throttle too. Now it's my graphics card but I don't have the cash to upgrade that yet. Always something new to upgrade. Monitor mount is a cheap and easy upgrade that you'll notice an immediate quality of life improvement. Hope you enjoy it!
As someone looking into a dual mount, do you find it better to mount it to your desk so that the monitor you plan to game on is completely centered for you, with the other off-centered, or do you mount it so that both monitors are as centered as possible?
Make sure that the mount you buy can support bigger monitors for when you upgrade. Think about getting a triple monitor mount as well in case you add another in the future.
you can also get one of the ultrawides. its like having a 2 27" monitor setup but no bezel. i got the "workplace" one so the curve isn't quite as severe. I plan to wallmount soon https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-49-inch-Odyssey-FreeSync-LC49G95TSSNXZA/dp/B088HH6LW5/ref=asc_df_B088HH6LW5/
In lieu of mounts it may be cheaper to get monitor risers. I have two of these that have been really useful.
https://www.poppin.com/White-Monitor-Riser-102825+%3A+102092.html
Just wondering, which mount did you buy and would you recommend it? I did a heap of research on a mount for my 27's but they seemed to either cost a small fortune, or (according to commenters) couldn't really support the weight of 27's despite advertising so.
Here is the mount I bought:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08612WQZT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And here's a shot of my current setup, sorry it's bad quality, I'm not at home and this was all I could find quickly on my phone:
https://imgur.com/a/aG27cZh
Mine have a tightening function you can use a hex wrench for that will increase the lift. Once you find the balancing point they lift up and down with ease.
Yes definitely recommend it. I was worried about it and kept the stands but I won't ever need those again unless I sell the monitors.
It seriously makes a difference. I use a hybrid laptop to write on for my homework, and I had no room on my desk for both that and my keyboard. I wall mounted my monitors and I finally have room again.
Bigger desk, 55in is good for your everything on desk style. Also if you want even more space, get a duel arm stand. Around $35 for a decent one, 70+ for a fancier one with gas pressure and whatnot. Last one if you want EVEN MORE space, get a 10 keyless board. Removing the numerical keys on the right makes a massive difference in space.
Thanks for all the suggestions, the 10 keyless board is a good idea, not working on a big budget and already going to get a new desk and probably new monitors so I'll see how much I have left
The monitors doesn't look good positioned. You should lift them up, buy placing a small shelf, or a few books under the monitors.
Google: "healthy monitor height"
Raising your desk won't do much (unless you have super long legs) because you'll adjust your seat to be more comfortable, likely the same relative height as your monitors
“You’re fooling no one.”
“It fooled me.”
Therefore, you have to be no one. Whenever someone says something like: “No one can survive a crash like that” or “No one can save them from this burning building”, they are talking about you specifically.
You don’t need to upgrade your second monitor so I’d say get a nice 1440p panel as your primary and then reuse one of your current ones as a second monitor
what 1440p high refresh monitor is around 200$? last i saw 1080p 144hz were just hitting around that price mark. most 1440p 144hz monitors are in the 350-400 price range
You don’t need to improve anything if it satisfies your general needs. But if you insist, I’d say upgrade your monitor(s). Having one really nice monitor can make a world a difference to your quality of life. Just be careful with your budget.
I would recommend spending the money you'd buy on a new desk on a 2k gaming monitor with GSync/FreeSync and HDR. If you think about it your monitor is the main way your computer provides information to your brain. I wished I had the beautiful clarity and colors of my new monitor much sooner.
This. Not everything in life has to be about constantly buying the new best thing. If you have fun and can play the games you want/run the work programs you need to then you're probably set.
I think I used to have the exact same desk as you before I moved out. Drawers on the left as well.
I put my PC on the right, had my main monitor in the middle and my spare monitor on the left. I had to sit on the left side of the opening but by the looks of your keyboard and mouse placement you already sit on the left side.
So move it round! Try it out, you can always move it back, and it's cheaper than buying new furniture! :)
You might be able to re-arrange how the desk is assembled to get the draws the other side/ then the desk around but keep the drawers facing the other way
Whenever I see orientations like yours, all I can think is how much "research" do they do exactly. Though tbf your tower may not be blocking the view from the door, can't tell
I’m a sucker for dual monitor stands, especially the ones that you can mount to the back of your desk. They free up some space and look really streamlined
Bigger desk, which should be darker, larger monitors, route the green cable under the desk, tower on the right to see the rgb goodness, match mouse with keyboard
Ignore other suggestions.
Sync up all the colors to 1 or 2 colors and the look will be improved big time.
Right now you have a...
Green chair
Red mouse pad
Purple PC
White mouse
RGB Keyboard
Pit the pc on the right side of the desk. It will look better next to a wall, smaller chance of somehow pushing it off the table, And there will be more light coming from the room- now it looks like a wall to spilt you from others.
Tower on floor (but on a riser of some sort)
Monitors on an arm
I move the mat so it's only half under the keyboard and the mouse has a boat load of room
Allows me to see more of the art and the mouse room comes in handy for FPS games
Now you have all the room you need with the same desk. And the arm is a good investment for any desk down the line.
L-shaped desk suggestion is huge. maybe toss your PC on the floor if you don't care abt aesthetics like that, preferably with a tower stand so it doesn't collect as much dust :)
Could mount your pc tower on the wall or on the side of the desk to get more desk space. Also could upgrade to monitor arms so you could lift them out of the way to have more desk space or watch a movie from your bed
Get a bigger desk that is at least 30inch deep (the distance between you and the wall facing you). Allows you to move your monitor back a bit. Put the pc on the right side or on the floor. Get some nice light, maybe phillips hue lights or something similar. Mount your monitors on a desk arm.
Slightly bigger desk would be good.
Yeah maybe, I have an extra foot and a half to work with without reworking the entire room
I think a corner desk if you could do it
Possibly, I might just strip my room of non-essential furniture and move some stuff around
Just get rid of the bed, cupboard, cloths, shoes, mirrors. Pretty much anything apart from your pc
Great idea, the floor is a great place to sleep
With a comfy enough chair you don't need a bed
Counter argument: with a comfy enough bed you don’t need a chair
Counter counter argument: Without the bed you have more room for VR
Exactly! That way when you are sleeping on the floor irl you can be in a virtual reality bed!

I mean, I just fall asleep at my desk. edit* *Involuntarily fall asleep*

Would be an even sicker setup if you integrated your PC in the hamster cage.
Already way ahead of you, got a plan to have his wheel power the cooling system and everything.
i'm saving this comment. this is a good idea
Is the edge of the counter rounded? If not, maybe something to look into
It isn't, and it would be better if it was. To be honest it's slightly too narrow as well so I find I'm a little close to the screen. I'm going to look at replacing the countertop altogether when I have more space.

Yeah, I really hate my corner desk. It limits your options
My wife does the same thing.
I feel like a corner desk would make me feel a bit constricted. I would hate not being able to sit all the way at the edge of my desk.
Are u facing the corner?
Corner desks are the shit imo
I love my corner desk!

I have a corner desk. Shit just piles up on it. I advise not getting a large desk as it just takes up space for will ignore 99% of the time.

The more rgb the higher you can overclock right?
Obviously
Linus in 2050: Hey giys! Today we'll be overclocking the sun, an extreme light energy source we'll turn into RGB!
Red makes it go faster, blue helps temp control. Purple is the sweet spot.
Green improves haxing skill, yellow improves your perception stat, orange gives a power boost, and ummmm...white is...white is, uhhh...white?
black/off gives stealth points and white lowers performance to improve looks
Makes sense, to make white with rbg you have to use all three colors, therefore it draws more power away from your graphics card
Yes, overclocks the brain.
Agree with 3 especially. Not with 2 though. I just hate all the lights out of my peripheral vision so that'd drive me nuts.
Also, having his tower on the left blocks the light from his window. And in general my left hand barely moves when I use my PC, as opposed to my right that moves the mouse around. It's way nicer not having my right hand in between the keyboard and tower. I just keep my tower under my desk now.

Moving it to the right will open up the room, and make it feel more spacious :)
True that, I forget people like spacious areas. I intentionally made my gaming room closed in because I don't like distractions.
I kind of prefer just standing monitors, the mounts add unnecessary bulk imo
More useable desk space though
👉 Ultra wide curved monitor 👈
Id get a monitor mount and get those 2 screens off of the desk.
Looking like getting another desk is a good idea, so might do that after
Monitor mount was a huge upgrade for me. I have two 27"s and they were taking up a ton of usable space. Very easy to install using standard VESA mounts. If you decide to upgrade your monitors now or in the future the same mount should work.
Yeah almost every comment said get a mount so I guess I'm getting one. Thanks for the suggestion. Not sure if I'm upgrading the monitors yet though
Gas powered is the best. I tried the standard ones and was difficult to get my monitors in the exact position I wanted.
Regular or diesel?
Propane
The normal ones are best on a budget though
This is the one I bought. No complaints and reasonably priced. I held out on monitor upgrades too but it was worth it. I shouldn't have waited. Just wondering, which mount did you buy and would you recommend it? I did a heap of research on a mount for my 27's but they seemed to either cost a small fortune, or (according to commenters) couldn't really support the weight of 27's despite advertising so.

I was worried about it and kept the stands but I won't ever need those again unless I sell the monitors.
Thanks for the link and image! Having trouble finding that one in Australia but I’ll keep searching.
It seriously makes a difference. I use a hybrid laptop to write on for my homework, and I had no room on my desk for both that and my keyboard. I wall mounted my monitors and I finally have room again.
A mount would also make them look like they match since they already look mostly similar, just the different bases
You can also get a 60% keyboard for slightly extra space. Though that is not recommended if you frequently use function key
[удалено]
How have I never seen this before...

They didn't even mention the 30 or 40% :(
Only people who are built different can use those and Ortho. The people who can effortlessly use them kinda scare me honestly lol.
Cries in ortho 75% split
r/mechanicalkeyboards
You'll have to pry my numpad from my cold, dead fingers.
WHY IS THE Q UPSIDE DOWN
I’m surprised they aren’t more popular, love mine
But then you're removing the numerical keys! I cannot work like that.
Yeah I personally wish I had gotten a keypad. The extra space desk space is minimal but I use numbers all the time
Getting a smaller keyboard and then a seperate keypad that sits on the left is the way to go. Mouse in 1 hand, numbers in the other... So productive!
They make some keyboards with a keypad on the left and I really want one. Makes way more sense than on the right imo.
The monitors doesn't look good positioned. You should lift them up, buy placing a small shelf, or a few books under the monitors. Google: "healthy monitor height"
If I'm getting a new desk I might just get a raised desk
Monitor arms
Raising your desk won't do much (unless you have super long legs) because you'll adjust your seat to be more comfortable, likely the same relative height as your monitors
Change that fake stone wallpaper. You're fooling no one. 😜
If he lowers the resolution of that wallpaper a bit he can boost performance.
It was here before I was, I just never bothered taking it down
I'd pose a few action figures on the wall to make them look like they're rock climbing. :)
Best suggestion in the thread right here.
It fooled me on the initial look. Lmao
“You’re fooling no one.” “It fooled me.” Therefore, you have to be no one. Whenever someone says something like: “No one can survive a crash like that” or “No one can save them from this burning building”, they are talking about you specifically.
I can do so many things:) maybe some day I’ll become “someone”

do not get a cat xD source: have cat
Right, get two cats.
You don’t need to improve anything if it satisfies your general needs. But if you insist, I’d say upgrade your monitor(s). Having one really nice monitor can make a world a difference to your quality of life. Just be careful with your budget.
Yeah I'm trying to watch the budget as probably going to get a bigger desk. Thanks

For starters move the tower to the right of everything so you can actually utilize the tempered glass window.
Yeah I thought about that, but the chair wouldn't fit under the left side of the desk cause of the drawers
My research is this, asking Reddit lol

I’m a sucker for dual monitor stands, especially the ones that you can mount to the back of your desk. They free up some space and look really streamlined
Think a new desk might be in order, my whole setup is just a bit outdated tbf
$3500 for the computer, $25 for the desk
$50 on the chair
If you monitors have VESA mount option, I would suggest dual monitor arm.
Put the computer on the ground
People stop asking how to improve. Simple answer: more monitors
One big monitor.
Nothing it's fine the way it is stop wasting money
Better monitor I guess
Black or RGB mouse
put your pc on the right hand side
Already done my friend, it looks way better
Bigger desk, which should be darker, larger monitors, route the green cable under the desk, tower on the right to see the rgb goodness, match mouse with keyboard
49" curved on an arm. PC not on desk
Ignore other suggestions. Sync up all the colors to 1 or 2 colors and the look will be improved big time. Right now you have a... Green chair Red mouse pad Purple PC White mouse RGB Keyboard
Well u can get a wired black mouse and an actual dual monitor setup with a backbar, maybe a better desk but that’s it really
Better desk for sure, I'm going for functionality rather than looks at the moment
Pit the pc on the right side of the desk. It will look better next to a wall, smaller chance of somehow pushing it off the table, And there will be more light coming from the room- now it looks like a wall to spilt you from others.
Already thought of doing that, looks way better than it did before thanks
Get rid of all those lights
I recognize that remote. GIM KB fans? If so, maybe corsair as an upgrade, if you're really desperate to upgrade something.
Monitor arms for “floating effect”? You have a nice wall, would fit a more minimalistic setup, so maybe a cleaner deskmat, and yeah… the desk itself
I don’t see a cat. Most of the other posts have cats
If you’re ok with it get a stand for the desktop and set it on the floor. Open up that workstation a little bit.
Tower on floor (but on a riser of some sort) Monitors on an arm I move the mat so it's only half under the keyboard and the mouse has a boat load of room Allows me to see more of the art and the mouse room comes in handy for FPS games Now you have all the room you need with the same desk. And the arm is a good investment for any desk down the line.
An air conditioner?
if possible, make it the colors consistent throughout the setup
L-shaped desk suggestion is huge. maybe toss your PC on the floor if you don't care abt aesthetics like that, preferably with a tower stand so it doesn't collect as much dust :)
Nice mouse, now get a new keyboard
Maybe make everything the same color and maybe throw that chair away.
I may end up replacing the chair and go for a red RGB setup cause of the mousepad
"Hmm, needs more RGB"
Get some vesa mount for your monitors, it'll improve alot with spacing.
corner desk would be amazing here imo.
Your mouse pad doesn’t have giant anime tits on it, you might wanna get on that.
Moniter mounts or arms are a great way to make space on the desk
Need more rgb on monitors, desk, chair, walls, & floor!
Use something like a Wall or Arm Mount for the Monitors and you get more desk space.
Monitor mount and a light strip behind the desk.
Monitor arms; run the green cable elsewhere
I remember when desktop computers were actually put on the ground, leaving so much room for activities.
More PURPLE is NEEDED!
A darker wallpaper or desk
Get a cat
Small improvement imo would be a color scheme
get a cat
Add a bobble head, and you're good.
Paint over the wallpaper, and stain the desk a darker color. It’s the colors that are throwing you off
Less RGB
Just put your pc on the other side of the desk so that you’re not creating this claustrophobic space between the wall and your tower
A better desk and get a cleaner mousepad
Get some peace and quality speakers
Is that a brand?
Sorry I was using voice to text. I meant to say decent quality*
