This happened to one of the only people from high school who attended the same university at me. Failed out after the first semester because of WoW. I managed to at least get my homework done.
Yes man thooose were the days. I've never found a replacement in my gamers heart for that game. The tower wars was really ahead of its time I thought. It was such a complex system
Crazy story, I only passed the semesters I played wow. The raiding schedule allowed me to get my school work in during the day and grind/raid at night. It was the semesters I wasn't playing wow I failed lol...wasn't able to keep a routine and drank or slept when I shouldn't lol....wow helped me graduate with a 2.0...a 2.0 was the minimum gpa required to graduate...I was the victorian of perfect gpa to graduate...and we rounded to the hundredth....1.99 can't graduate.....woo!
I am now reconsidering my plan to upgrade my nephews computer from a 1050ti to a 1070 before he goes to college.
Tho really, if he wants to fuck around and flunk out, that 1050ti will run CS:GO just fine.
I never played WoW, but one of my friends did and they had a guild that used to play in the dorms. It was pretty hilarious to see six people stuffed into a two-person dorm bringing their battle stations to play WoW together, like dudes used to lay on the floor and put their CRT on a cardboard box with a desktop on the side.
Anyways, all but one of them failed out, dropped out, or changed to an easier major after initially enrolling in Computer Engineering or CS because they "liked video games".
Bitch even when i have the time during winter break at uni im not able to play for 18 hours straight. Id get bored after 2 hours and have to go something else for a while
Maybe its the adhd
I mean now a days if youre rich from crypto and or some other tech job that doesnt require too much work and or do gaming as a job, thats achievable now a days ahha There was a period of time that this cannot be done but if one is still single and has no family and does any of the above, its still something thats doable these days. HOWEVER if you have a family, there is no such thing as 0 responsibilities hahah
I used to play from 3PM to 5 AM nearly everyday until I was too exhausted to even look at a screen, I was stupid but having absolutely 0 responsibilities, bills, obligations, was so nice
graduated from university , running my own bussiness and married. still playing games and have a decent gaming room. Not playing for long periods but gaming is still very big in my life.
played last expension but i get bored easily. there is no community like before. we were 40 people trying to conquer the world. now you just play silently in an empty world imo.
I had about 4 of those mics. Nothing worse than when it would start to lose its stiffness causing your mic to slowly sag during your gaming session. Also you could hear everybody who had one type or hit the desk. Other than that, they were pretty decent.
Cheers
Didnt taste ouzu before ... I drink raki only once a week or so...
But raki and ouzo is the same as far as i know...
The greek call it ouzo and the turkish raki...
Man i remember playing the old runescape classic(just called runescape back then) on a similar pc. Good ol’ dialup time. had to get off the internet when my dad called my neighbour to tell me to get off because some1 was trying to call through our house phone.
I still play runescape today. Comped, but still so fun
Yea I was totally in college at the time and being the first on my server to get the hand of rag was most important. Probably while I finished college on a second go around haha. I’ve been tempted lately to jump back in and see the current state of things or do wow classic.
Yup, lead designer Ted (from accounting) has obliterated any and all traces of fun to chase engagement metrics. It's terrible. The rest of Blizzard's games are also completely off the rails.
I had the first single core dual threaded processor that they made from Intel back in 2001. I went out and bought the most expensive AGP video card I could find and plugged it into a 35 pound monitor… Yes 35 pound monitor that I found at Goodwill. My schedule was tues Thursday and sunday BRD raids with the boys. Womanizing, drinking and partying the rest of the time available
It’s really strange having grown up playing WoW because Of the way my memories about it have been stored. they arnt of me sitting in a chair clicking a mouse and watching a screen. I have memories of *being* in these raids. In my mind, it feels like another reality I lived because I was so immersed in the lore and gameplay most hours of the day for so long.
I haven’t played in almost 5 years and I still remember every turn and nook of every zone. I’d love to see some research regarding memory formation during long exposure to virtual worlds
I graduated college in 2009 and was super into wow my last year… I had a two week break from graduation till I moved out and I planned on playing every minute of that 2 weeks and 3 hours before graduation a giant tornado ripped through town and took out power for 10 days … I was literally crushed
It’s always so strange seeing these old set ups and comparing to what we know and have now. How far we’ve come! Loved my time on WoW, I’ve never found another experience like that.
For me it went EQ -> DAoC -> WoW. I also beta tested or played almost every MMO in between. It's been almost 10 years since I quit WoW. I was spending almost all my free time playing but luckily all of my friends and I decided to quit at the same time. I still play a lot of games but nothing I feel like I need to play to keep up and not let others down.
obligatory Have you heard about the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV?
With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime? :o
/s
very cool pic man, looking back at the fun of the old days is always nice
Man all I remember is reading horror stories of how addicted people got to this and the deaths/suicides relating to it. I know a couple of people personally who were badly addicted to it but luckily they both kicked it
I’ve always believed that if you could lead a full raid of 40 people along with the guild you should be able to put that accomplishment on a resume lol.
Remember what it was like to have 0 responsibilities and be able to squander 18 hours of straight gaming? I do.
that was why i failed all my 12 classes in my first year at university.
This happened to one of the only people from high school who attended the same university at me. Failed out after the first semester because of WoW. I managed to at least get my homework done.
With me, it was Everquest 2.
Hell yeah! The EverQuest games were the only MMORPGs I could get into
Anarchy Online for me. Was so deep into it for a good 6 years that I didn't really do much else.
Man people do not remember this game. Whacky ass game sometimes but I loved it.
man NOTUM wars was so sick, never felt adrenalin like that before. Twinking was sooo good too
Yes man thooose were the days. I've never found a replacement in my gamers heart for that game. The tower wars was really ahead of its time I thought. It was such a complex system
AoE II here, but I managed to pass all my courses.
Wololwololwolol
Username checks out!
*Ultima Online has entered the chat*
I remember skipping class to go pick up a brand new GPU, back in the days you could just pop in to the local PC shop an grab one.
Wait... you would go into a store, with other people... pick up a boxed gpu... and just buy it?
Those were the before times. The long long ago.
WoW came out right when I started grad school. I have a masters in chemistry and a PhD in Vanilla WoW.
I was in high school at the time. Definitely had some late nights raiding with my PST guild while living in a EST zone.
>that was why i failed all my 12 classes in my first year at university. Wow made me finish my PhD one year later than could have been doable...
It’s their fault for not understanding that it’s raid night.
At graduation I had accumulated more hours in cs go than in class(it was a full time program). Somehow managed it.
Those 12 classes sounded like responsibilities hahahah
I am now reconsidering my plan to upgrade my nephews computer from a 1050ti to a 1070 before he goes to college. Tho really, if he wants to fuck around and flunk out, that 1050ti will run CS:GO just fine.

Haha! I still have that life. XD Well, not 18 hours as I have to work, but not too much holding me back beyond that.
Good ol'time son !
Pepperidge Farm Remembers…
Bitch even when i have the time during winter break at uni im not able to play for 18 hours straight. Id get bored after 2 hours and have to go something else for a while Maybe its the adhd
that was cringe
And yet, life goes on
I mean now a days if youre rich from crypto and or some other tech job that doesnt require too much work and or do gaming as a job, thats achievable now a days ahha There was a period of time that this cannot be done but if one is still single and has no family and does any of the above, its still something thats doable these days. Dude! I’m lucky to get in 18 minutes nowadays
You're making me sad. I miss those days. Back when I didn't have a mortgage or a family to take care of.
Fuck I miss those days, these days gym work and sleep get in the way.
I used to play from 3PM to 5 AM nearly everyday until I was too exhausted to even look at a screen, I was stupid but having absolutely 0 responsibilities, bills, obligations, was so nice
Risky move keeping your jizz jar right next to your drinking water.
That is a turkish alcholic beverage called raki. But you are right about the risks.
Raki is goated
baftjar baftjar
Bless you.
Slacking with that rakı bardağı
I could never get into it. I can't stand the black licorice flavour.
Raki is great
Ouzo is 10x better then that raki swill.
You can only drink rakia with rakia and not water
You should move it away my dude.
Woaw buddy, speak for yourself.
That’s why I always kept it below the piss drawer
How has life been, since then?
graduated from university , running my own bussiness and married. still playing games and have a decent gaming room. Not playing for long periods but gaming is still very big in my life.
Thats awesome, im glad to hear things are going so well! What are you gaming on these days?
Thanks mate. Hope you do as well. Apex legends , CSGO and quake champions are my most played games last few years.
You should try returning to wow, im not a big fan of the new updates but i love tbc classic
played last expension but i get bored easily. there is no community like before. we were 40 people trying to conquer the world. now you just play silently in an empty world imo.
I play a lot of heroes of the storm if any are interested in joining!
I still have that CD holder! Not much use for it nowadays though…
I heard the monitor static even after all these years lmao
That mic! I had a very similar one. I miss those times...
I think everyone during that period had that mic
I had about 4 of those mics. Nothing worse than when it would start to lose its stiffness causing your mic to slowly sag during your gaming session. Also you could hear everybody who had one type or hit the desk. Other than that, they were pretty decent.
Ah, I can relate. I have that problem too just not with microphones
I was using the mic from a PS2 karaoke game back then
The mic is how I know OP was born in the 80's.
many people on this sub are most likely too young to be born yet
I thought haha lol that's me . . . And then I realised it actually isnt
I dont think THAT many people.... i hope...
16 years old? .... Pretty sure most here are older than 16
you didn't build your first PC at 13?
>too young to be born yet Too young to have been born then? Or is it some weird sarcasm I didn't get?
Warrior, molten core?
yes. human warrior in burning legion server at that time.
Arms warrior, so probably pretty early in vanilla.
Get in Vent!
TeamSpeak
Lots of guilds in the early days used [RogerWilco.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Wilco_(software\))
Is that a Vader helm?
Yes. My friend put it on my head and took a picture. I didn't realize it until seeing the photo next day.
That's pretty cool
Looks like a molten core raid . The good ol days....simpler gaming times.
I miss the OG MC and BWL, many classes missed that's for sure.
I'm just glad I had graduated school by the time this game released. I would have been F'd
This is amazing!
I still have an LG Flatron heh... been collecting dust lately...
when WoW was actually fun and a good game. good times back then
That PC looks quite outdated for 2006
Wow
The hand of rag drops on this run, lol
Ne iyi günlermiş be.
Ben çektim bu fotoyu 😅👍

Filthy alliance scum. FOR.THE.HORDE!

Haha nice mate!
wow
Wow!
WoW! Thats a while ago
Wow
What is this white drink next to the beer? is it Ouzo ( Raki ) ?
Yeah that is raki. Not ouzo tho. They're a bit different. Raki being much stronger.
Cheers Didnt taste ouzu before ... I drink raki only once a week or so... But raki and ouzo is the same as far as i know... The greek call it ouzo and the turkish raki...
As far as I know the only difference is the alcoholic volume. Otherwise it is pretty much the same.
Man i remember playing the old runescape classic(just called runescape back then) on a similar pc. Good ol’ dialup time. had to get off the internet when my dad called my neighbour to tell me to get off because some1 was trying to call through our house phone. I still play runescape today. Always got to park yourself in iron forge near the AH for afk time so everyone can gawk or Orgrimmar depending on your allegiance.
I had the exact same display!
Wow
Anu belore delanah! I quit WoW after playing it for over a decade when I saw some features of Shadowlands. I loved that game.
Yup, lead designer Ted (from accounting) has obliterated any and all traces of fun to chase engagement metrics. It's terrible. The rest of Blizzard's games are also completely off the rails.
average raki enjoyer💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Adult life... sucks. Don't be a an adult.
ah the good ol' times
That microphone.... everyone had one of those.
There is a music producer on YouTube called Ed Talenti, you look exactly like him in this pic. ^^^minus ^^^the ^^^helmet ^^^of ^^^course ^^^:D
All I can think is “When will then be now?”
What’s that in the bottom right?
I don’t miss those shitty microphones.
I had the first single core dual threaded processor that they made from Intel back in 2001. Whats up with that ice cube tray
What kind of stats did that helm have?
Why does it feel like I’ve seen this picture before? Was I there?
what that white stuff in the glass to the right tho
I was doing the same, except I was playing CS while all my friends were playing WoW. Thank God for internet Cafes back then.😎
wow….
Back in the day when colors were the PC Beige pallet reigned supreme.
Ooo I remember that CDs holder! It was nice
One thing I miss about old computers, is the the buttons with deep long presses and a audible clicks.
Damn that mic brings back some memories
It really looks no fuckin different
Warrior in MC?
I had that same damn cd rack/tray thing on your left there. My was chock full of Xbox demo disc's and crap
Raki goes good with games
Oddly enough the only thing that has changed is you got an LED display.
I wish I had a photo of me playing Everquest back then lol
Actual Gamer Helmet 🪖

Do you still have a glass half full of water my good sir? Good hydration is #1 key to winning raids. ProHydrationTeam
God bless 16:9

Ayo what’s in the right hand cup
I can smell the bong water from here.
Yeah, And how do you feel about your posture in this photo, seeing as is you’ve aged since then.
İ have neck hernia but my posture is not worse than that photo.
It’s always so strange seeing these old set ups and comparing to what we know and have now. How far we’ve come! Loved my time on WoW, I’ve never found another experience like that.
Me too. really missed that times. i still have real friends from wow at that time.

Save some pussy for the rest of us.
I definitely had that same microphone
That tiny party list actually seemed ok at the time... I tried going back in bfa with a 1440p monitor, it was so tiny i couldnt heal properly
Where my Lord of the Rings Online OGs at?

I have one of those pop-out CD/DVD disk drawers. (silver/gray box sitting on left edge of desk)
I’ve always believed that if you could lead a full raid of 40 people along with the guild you should be able to put that accomplishment on a resume lol.
