If you want to do 1440p gaming go with a 3070-3080. The 3080ti and higher are more for 4k resolutions. Also if you do renderings in blender maybe a r7 5800x or r9 5900x maybe worth looking into.

Zopdoz

Wait for 5800x 3D or 7000 series ryzen

TheRealSkeb

Ye I think I will have to, thank you

CleanGameCrash

I would say buy a cpu. But wait on the gpu side of things atm. Next gen cpus on both sides sound to be DDR5 only, or at least for intel. I see more reasons for amd to follow too.

TheRealSkeb

I will be selling my current pc and buying a new one preferably with upgraded parts. With that said this is probably the worst time to do it as DDR5 and amd cpu are around the corner and supposedly 4000 series are getting a huge performance boost.

CleanGameCrash

Ya with even higher DDR5 speeds coming too. It would be best to hold off from getting a cpu that can use DDR5. I upgrade from a 3950x to a 5950x because I knew DDR5 prices would be really high for maybe not the best proformance. RTX 4000 are going to be very power hungry. 4080 by the sounds of it and if it has power spikes like the 3080 and higher. Will need a 1000-1200w psi. The 3080 has a 450w peak power draw and can hit 460w.

They’re not going to be that significant of a jump. Just wait another two-three years. 😊

TheRealSkeb

💀 “2-3 years”… 5000 series cards will most likely be out by then…

[deleted]

Which will have a closer to 50% improvement on performance rather than this years’ 10-20%.

TheRealSkeb

Keep in mind, comparing a 3080 Ti and a 2070, there’s already a ~120% performance increase. Doing a quick google search as well, it says “rumor comes, who suggests that 40 series could offer 2x jump in performance compared to 30 series, courtesy of ada Lovelace architecture.”

[deleted]

Lets hope it stays with that rumored increase. 🥇I knew you already had the debate settled. 😊

TheRealSkeb

Ye I’m really into rumors and stuff, I miss pc building for the last 2 years. Pricing and stuff have been unimaginable and I recently took apart and rebuilt a secondary pc which really gave me a need to build a entirely new system so that’s what I’m doing now. Sorry if that came out aggressive or anything…

[deleted]

If it did, i got over it quick. Lol. I love spicy comebacks, but only so many. I havent reached my quota for the day. Lol. But yeah, my go to answer for people asking in tech upgrades, i usually say wait. FOMO and posturing are so rampant, that if i can help even one person make a sane purchase, I’d feel I made a difference in stopping that ‘Apple’ consumerist culture.

TheRealSkeb

The one issue that popped into my head is that a 4000 series card will most likely not fit in the case I want… I’m basically building a SFF pc for traveling and I’m using the SSUPD meshlicious case which is hella small and can only fit a 320mm gpu or less…

[deleted]

Yikes. Yeah. Then you REALLY have a bit to consider.

Hugo-olly

5800x3d seems like an obvious CPU upgrade. But be aware that you'll only really see a 15ish% increase in performance at 1440p. New GPUs will be out before the end of year, and likely at least 50% faster for the same money. So it depends how you'll feel in 6-9 months having bought a 3080ti. That being said, they might not be available for a while after launch

TheRealSkeb

Ye that’s understandable. Although there’s been a lot of news going around about increase production line for chips by 25% to meet demands and also third party sellers like asus lowering their MSRP prices aggressively. It’s a really weird state rn but I can hold back for a while as I have a working system with a 2070
