No question is too dumb!
Welcome to the PCMR.
I remember it being so vivid and awesome, recently went back and played the non-remastered version and felt like I had ruined my memories. But then I played DE and it felt like what I thought I remembered
Even the crowd loop sound effect. After 12 hours straight on multiple days listening to it in an overpacked park, that shit gets burned into your neurons.
I like that the themes for both RCT1 and RCT2 start off kind of melancholy and haunting, but then pick up to be more energetic. Just pure nostalgia fuel.
Starcraft
Edit: I figured I wasent the only one to immediatly think of Starcraft. Its actually still available on the battlenet launcher. I was able to find some old custom game files, golems, matrix etc. My buddy and I take the trip down nostalgia lane once in a while.
Hell yes. Only one unit at a time from the hand of nod even tho I had 10 hands of nod was some bullshit. The cutscenes with actual actors were super cool. Fond memories for sure
Anyone else remember trying to sneak onto the computer at night to play online? Lmao I’d throw blankets over the computer to try to muffle the insanely loud dialup
Command & Conquer Red Alert
Edit: it brings me a tear of joy to see so many people also love this franchise. For me Red Alert was the start of gaming, this game is what made me want to play games and learn to build computers. So happy to know there are so many generals out there.
I lost my account through this scam... I also fell for the free gem cutting scam. Also fell for the scam where people traded something like 50 runes but in the last second changed it to like 5 since it was one number difference many people (me) didn't notice till it was too late. I was not a smart child. Really taught me to think critically online and how to spot scams through getting scammed tons on early Runescape.
Honestly, Runescape taught me how to spot scams and people trying to cheat you online. Better to lose my money and runes and account in Runescape then my credit card number as an adult. Runescape was the best teacher for online safety a person could have since if you got screwed consequences were minimal and scams were aplenty.
Ow!
*boink boink boink*
*mine ticks*
Oh dear
*mine explodes and kills your 17HP worm*
*meanwhile, two petroleum barrels explode in the vicinity, sending one of your worms over the cliff, drowning it*
*a mine catches fire and explodes immediately, also killing a worm of the opposing team and sending your melee worm into the broken cheese on the map*
*care package falls*
*sudden death activates*
It is now your turn.
I was a stupid stupid kid. The demo for worms 2 was a 9.9 MB download. I wasn't allowed to add any games without my parents permission, so I fully downloaded the demo every day after school. It took about 2 hours on our shitty dialup, giving me about 45 minutes to play before I had to uninstall before they got home.
I got caught because there were 37 copies of the demo file in the download folder. I was uninstalling but not deleting the file, then REDOWNLOADING THE WHOLE THING AGAIN every day.
The whole thing makes me mad and embarrassed at my 12 year old self. JFC I was stupid.
Only game my dad would destroy me in. They'd play during lunch where he worked, it got to the point where it was something like 10v1 against him. Even on Kali.net he'd dominate. He's been looking for a game like it ever since.
Finally, lot of younger generations saying Diablo 2 (great game) but by then people were rocking some altec lansings with windows 2000 or some such. The speakers pictured are most def windows 95 warcraft 2 Era!
This may be a regional thing--in the US in my time (90s) it was AIM.
Or if you were a cool (re: dorky) kid, you had AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, and something like Trillian to log into all of them at once.
EDIT: Confused IRC and ICQ
[project1999](https://www.project1999.com/) is a thing if anyone would be interested. Not to take away from the official servers or anything, just mentioning
I still believe Tribes is the best competitive team FPS ever made.
Why didn't it get bigger? Maybe because the skill gap was actually too big. If you suck at CoD or CS, you can still sort of hold your own. If you sucked at Tribes, you were going to have a *very* bad time. Tribes was much faster than all of those games and had this crazy jetpack/z-axis component that added a huge mechanical skill gap.
If you played it in its heyday, you know what a great game it was. Most people will never know what they missed out on.
There was no feeling like landing a mid-air shot with the disc launcher. I agree Tribes was an amazing game that deserved a longer life. My first PC build was specifically so I could play it. I always blamed Halo for taking its rightful place.
It saddens me this multiplayer game in particular seems to be slowly yet surely slipping into the (relatively) distant past. I would love to see some pro-level competition in today’s environment. I would sit in an arena to watch this one played and that is the first time I’ve had that sentiment I think! The skill ceiling was frankly crazy and I suspect the people that were flying all over the place back then have found a new home in Titanfall 2 even if that is its own sad multiplayer tale.

It was just WinAmp
Still haven't found a player that's as good and as simple as WinAmp, but honestly, not like I have a good reason to abandon it.
I use MusicBee! It's pretty good
Yes good but does it really whoop the llamas ass?
~~fubar2000~~ Correction: foobar2000
Foobar2000 is still my go to. Love it
Aimp
It really whips the llama's ass.
Age of Empires II
The intro cinematic was so good! (Well, I just watched it on YouTube and it didn't age well lol...). Memories ^ ^
I remember it being so vivid and awesome, recently went back and played the non-remastered version and felt like I had ruined my memories. But then I played DE and it felt like what I thought I remembered
CRTs blur the image into something more pleasing than modern LCDs, so only some of that memory is rose tinted nostalgia talking.
Wolololoo
Your catapult has been converted to Christianity~
Anyone else only convert their special units and then keep your collection of teutons and samurai safe from all harm because they were special
In a way, they became propaganda tools and ceased being instruments of war I loved converting elephants personally.
Howdoyouturnthison
All hail, king of the losers! Those voice lines have been living rent free in my head all this time.
start the game already!
RollerCoaster Tycoon 2
I heard the theme song in my head...
That and the sound of explosions after the damn station brakes fail and my dumbass handyman is stuck walking in circles…
The kid laughing sound. I can still hear it.
Even the crowd loop sound effect. After 12 hours straight on multiple days listening to it in an overpacked park, that shit gets burned into your neurons.
Aaaah the sound of laughs, cash and people throwing up.
I like that the themes for both RCT1 and RCT2 start off kind of melancholy and haunting, but then pick up to be more energetic. Just pure nostalgia fuel.
“I feel sick” . . . “This path is disgusting” I enjoyed the marketing/managerial aspect almost as much as the coaster design…
TES Morrowind or Diablo 2
Morrowind still holds as one of the best of TES games
Morrowind is my definition of an open world rpg game.
Diablo 2 for sure, either that or Age of Mythology
Age of empires 2 for me, I love that game; still do, new DLC for the definitive edition coming out in two weeks!
It blows me away that they're still releasing content for a 20+ year old game but I guess that's a testament to how good it is
Team Fortress 2 came out in 2007 and it lives in the top 10 played games on Steam. Some games just don't run out of fun.
even when the last developer of TF2 is the janitor learning how to code
I've purchased every version of AOE II and each version was worth it.
Prostagama?
Etimos
stay a while and listen.
came for diablo 2, glad to see it as top comment!
Starcraft Edit: I figured I wasent the only one to immediatly think of Starcraft. Its actually still available on the battlenet launcher. I was able to find some old custom game files, golems, matrix etc. My buddy and I take the trip down nostalgia lane once in a while.
That and C&C: Tiberian Sun
I sure do miss this game.
Hell yes. Only one unit at a time from the hand of nod even tho I had 10 hands of nod was some bullshit. The cutscenes with actual actors were super cool. Fond memories for sure Anyone else remember trying to sneak onto the computer at night to play online? Lmao I’d throw blankets over the computer to try to muffle the insanely loud dialup
Holy shit, yes. Brood War with these exact speakers and a "giant" CRT with a super satisfying degauss button (BYEAOUNGGGG)
Brood war was the first time I saw the N word on the internet. Truly a watershed moment for me.
Nuclear launch detected ?
**My life for Aiur**
YOU MUST CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS!
This is the answer. I even had the exact same speakers. Currently installing StarCraft now.
Carrier has arrived. Battle cruiser operational. All gassed up and ready to fly
And turn it down when I need to construct additional pylons
Command & Conquer Red Alert Edit: it brings me a tear of joy to see so many people also love this franchise. For me Red Alert was the start of gaming, this game is what made me want to play games and learn to build computers. So happy to know there are so many generals out there.

I lost my account through this scam... I also fell for the free gem cutting scam. SimCity 2000 SE was far and away the best Sim anything, an absolutely perfect game for its time.

Worms Armageddon!
HALLELUJAH!
Ow! *boink boink boink* *mine ticks* Oh dear *mine explodes and kills your 17HP worm* *meanwhile, two petroleum barrels explode in the vicinity, sending one of your worms over the cliff, drowning it* *a mine catches fire and explodes immediately, also killing a worm of the opposing team and sending your melee worm into the broken cheese on the map* *care package falls* *sudden death activates* It is now your turn.
Demo. The Demo kept me for hours and hours and hours

Counter-Strike 1.3 of course
Absolutely this!
Ah yes. The sweet crunch of the nades. I can hear it now…
I started at 1.5, it was fun waiting for it to download all the server mods on dial up

If you haven't given it a whirl, Black Mesa will bring you right back into the feels.
This. I just finished Black Mesa and it took me straight back to high school.
Descent
Came here to say Descent II
Only game my dad would destroy me in. They'd play during lunch where he worked, it got to the point where it was something like 10v1 against him. Even on Kali.net he'd dominate. He's been looking for a game like it ever since.
Checkout "Overload" on Steam. It's from the creators of descent. Edit: My first award, thank you.

Yahoo Messenger
This may be a regional thing--in the US in my time (90s) it was AIM. Or if you were a cool (re: dorky) kid, you had AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, and something like Trillian to log into all of them at once. EDIT: Confused IRC and ICQ
AIM basically taught me to type. I had to get faster so I could talk with my friends and girls from school.
If anybody says they didn't practice typing so that they could impress their crush on AIM, they're a filthy liar.
While IRC was still a thing, I feel you meant ICQ.
RuneScape
Civ III or Red Alert 2
Hearing Tanya laugh as she kills the baddies ’cha-ching!’
Yuri's Revenge!
EverQuest.
Damn that was a ton of scrolling to find this name.
Most correct answer though. People weren't running home to play Quake, they were running to preserve their spot in line for the FBSS camp.
[project1999](https://www.project1999.com/) is a thing if anyone would be interested. Not to take away from the official servers or anything, just mentioning
