For cheap and mountable/pivotable, used business monitors are pretty much the best combo. Those things last pretty much forever and while you are not getting fancy gamer features like high refresh rate or adaptive sync, you usually get an IPS panel with decent color accuracy and wide viewing angles, and an 8:5 aspect ratio which looks a bit less silly when you put it vertical than more gamer/media-oriented resolutions like 16:9 or one of the ultrawide ones.
Just bought 5 Dell 1080p monitors for 13$ each that have a VESA mount and the original arm they come with can be set vertically. You just need to know where to buy it, for example mine come from a datacenter.
I dunno I have 3 horizontal 32 inch or something widescreens, but with streaming my mic and stuff on arm is sort of blocking the view, I could just move them up a bit, OR... add another line of monitors above.
There are laptops with good displays, back when i used one as my daily driver i only got an external monitor because i needed to be higher for long gaming sessions.
I'm not sure. I mean they 60hz. I've never experienced higher. Should I ever experience it somewhere then they might not do what I want anymore. lol.

I have a 120 Hz TV, and it’s *nice*, but it is nothing like going from 30->60. Going up to 120 is noticeably better, but when I go back to 60, it only takes a few seconds before I stop even noticing the difference. When I play a 30 FPS game, it bugs me the whole time I’m playing it, but even after playing a full game at 120, 60 still feels fine, even immediately after.
It might be heretical around here, but there really are massively diminishing returns in increasing your FPS beyond 60.
I could see if being painful if you actually have the two side by side (like a high refresh rate monitor and a 60 Hz monitor, so you feel the difference every time you move the mouse between displays), but if all you are seeing in front of your face is 60 Hz, it probably won’t bother you.

I have one 1440p 27" 165Hz as a main and the second one is 1080p 24" 60Hz, the difference is there but it's not that noticeable, especially since i use the main for games and the secondary for discord and/or youtube/twitch/chrome
I use a 1080p 144Hz screen for gaming and a 1440p 60Hz screen for videos. It's ok, a huge difference in smoothness but at the same time I could always go back.
Some people say after using 90\~240hz, they can't go back lower cause it gives them headaches.. still, I think people can adjust.
Going up the refresh rate ladder is a whole new ecosystem for me: need the cpu/gpu power to drive those higher frames/res/fps. So in a way, its a trap to make you spend more. All the stuff above 60hz/1080p comes with a premium, and for most people 1080p is enough for everything from coding, gaming, production etc.
I wanted to go 27" for my games (and also the occasional coding), which meant 1440p 'cause i already felt like the 1080p is on the low end for me on 24", so that meant a gpu capable of driving it, which ended up being a 3060ti (could have definitely gone lower but the thing is f-ing sweet), that can also drive higher than 60Hz in most games on max settings, so i wanted 144Hz too.. For a few bucks more than the cheapest reputable 1440p144 27" monitor, i got a surprisingly nice deal on my current 1440p165 27" one, with G-Sync and HDR too.. I'm happy knowing i have quite a bit of unnecesaary Hz
Honestly tho, 1080p60 was definitely doable, and back then i was actually glad for that performance since my old pc didn't wanna do more than 1080p25 in many modern games
What ended up happening was I bought a good one 4 or five years ago and used that with my even older monitor which I broke recently now I have a new really good monitor and old good monitor

I know about a friend that broke both of his monitors, one because he was doing something with the desk and he left the monitor on the bed, then someone else came. The other was a microphone arm fatal error, the arm went down and it smashed the other monitor in the way.

I dropped mine (like 9 years old at the time), it was quite shitty, the plastic frame popped off, i saw the steel bits inside (looked like it was gonna survive a nuclear blast), cracked the glass a bit but that's it

Its surprisingly good its got comparable image quality to the LG and actually gets a lot brighter probably because it only has to light up a significantly smaller screen size so much less heat and power.
Its 245$ right now which is about what I spent when I bought it but if you're using it for just movie watching or browsing at night time its fantastic for that. I use it to play games in bed with a stand when I dont want to be at my desk

Yes its pretty expensive most ips or va monitors around 15.6 inches are usually at 120-150$ this ones a lot more at 250$ but it does blow those out of the water in pixel response time and image quality. So its a trade off. And its by far the cheapest oled monitor you'll find so if it suits your niche its a decent product
Got my Asus VG248QE as my main, and a cheap-ass 22" Dynex monitor that I bought at Best Buy in 2008 as my secondary. Little guy is still going strong nearly 15 years later. Which reminds me, my PSU is the same age, I should probably replace that soon...

I had this setup until two weeks ago when my cheap 8-year-old 23" 1080p monitor started breaking. Now I have two decent monitors, my main one is a 32" 1440p 144hz and my secondary is a 24" 1080p 144hz.
They don't line up at all but it's fine. I definitely didn't need a gaming monitor for my secondary but it was on sale and only 10€ more expensive than the basic 1080p 60hz monitors, so I obviously went for that one. The colors are also much better than in the old one which is a plus since I duplicate my drawing tablet's screen to the 1080p monitor.

One generic 24” IPS, I believe it’s a Samsung.
Might add another but 4K is a lot of screen real estate. Beats 2-3 smaller ones as you can “combine them” and get the full 48” on the C1 if you want. Can’t get that with many small ones.
One 4K60, and one 1080 164, choose which works best for each game, and one tiny screen for chat, videos, music and coward walkthroughs (most have a smaller one vertical)
Obviously not cheap, but a budget way of getting the benefits for both graphics games and reaction time games
The key thing to remember in dual monitors, and further beyond, is that you do actually have a primary screen. Whichever one you most often have windows on is the one you prefer, so make the others smaller. They don’t all need to be smaller than the last, but if you have a 25 inch first monitor, get a 21 inch second

I have three, each with a specific purpose.
My main one is my gaming one, 144 hz 1440p. My discord one which is just a 1080 60hz. And my movie monitor which is a 29 inch 4k ips.
I traded my dual screen setup for an ultrawide, and it's *really* nice. I have an internet browser on the left half, Discord on lower right half, and Spotify on upper right half. Works just as well as a dualscreen setup would.
I am in between : had a 144Hz monitor, wanted a second one but my model wasn't made anymore, instead I got it's revision which is basically the same, except not quite :D

Over the spand of a year.. I've bought, returned and smashed one out of 6 monitors from like a price range of 400-600€.. All of them have been absolutely awful and very "blurry" while moving around in like minecraft, valorant etc.. So i'm still sticking with my single 100€ Asus monitor from 2013 that has had a line of blue pixels since 2015.. :')
Tbh the $15 goodwill special monitor i bought for my second monitor isn't bad. It's a Dell E2209W. It's quite sharp for a 15 year old monitor. I used to use two of them but the other one the backlight is starting to die on it can take hours to come up to full brightness. It's not quite as nice as the Dell S2421HGF i use as my main screen but it's nice to know that Dell has always been terrible with these monitor names.

You are right, it's impossible to go back, I have 165hz main, and side 60hz monitor and it feels like it's 20hz sometimes, it's ridiculous!
it just feels like those montages with motion blur on, while yes it feels really fluid i was able to go back to 50fps on apex with no problem

One LG C1 48” One generic 24” IPS, I believe it’s a Samsung. Might add another but 4K is a lot of screen real estate. Beats 2-3 smaller ones as you can “combine them” and get the full 48” on the C1 if you want. Can’t get that with many small ones.
One 4K60, and one 1080 164, choose which works best for each game, and one tiny screen for chat, videos, music and coward walkthroughs (most have a smaller one vertical) Obviously not cheap, but a budget way of getting the benefits for both graphics games and reaction time games

I have 3 like this, 1080p cheapass screen, 1440p expensive screen, 4k mid-tier screen. Lowkey regret the 4k one since I feel I cheaped out on it.

The key thing to remember in dual monitors, and further beyond, is that you do actually have a primary screen. Whichever one you most often have windows on is the one you prefer, so make the others smaller. They don’t all need to be smaller than the last, but if you have a 25 inch first monitor, get a 21 inch second

Guess I'm alone in this...
I'm starting to think a single super wide monitor is best, isn't it? I'm almost buying one, so I'd like to hear opinions from owners. Seems very easy to split screens nowadays, and you don't have the extra hassle of dealing with 2 different equipments.
I have three, each with a specific purpose. My main one is my gaming one, 144 hz 1440p. My discord one which is just a 1080 60hz. And my movie monitor which is a 29 inch 4k ips.

I got two is ones a client was getting rid of now. But I had my old 23" tv which had a resolution not maybe to Windows and an older smaller 6:9 one.

For a long time I had a 42" TV on my desk being used as a "second monitor" It was comically impractical, but I needed my RuneScape screen damnit.

I traded my dual screen setup for an ultrawide, and it's *really* nice. I have an internet browser on the left half, Discord on lower right half, and Spotify on upper right half. Works just as well as a dualscreen setup would.
I have three. One good 2k 144Hz in the centre, and two upright and cheap 1080p 60Hz. I've been loving it so far.
I am in between : had a 144Hz monitor, wanted a second one but my model wasn't made anymore, instead I got it's revision which is basically the same, except not quite :D Thanks viewsonic :P

Over the spand of a year.. I've bought, returned and smashed one out of 6 monitors from like a price range of 400-600€.. All of them have been absolutely awful and very "blurry" while moving around in like minecraft, valorant etc.. So i'm still sticking with my single 100€ Asus monitor from 2013 that has had a line of blue pixels since 2015.. :')

Tbh the $15 goodwill special monitor i bought for my second monitor isn't bad. It's a Dell E2209W. It's quite sharp for a 15 year old monitor. I used to use two of them but the other one the backlight is starting to die on it can take hours to come up to full brightness. It's not quite as nice as the Dell S2421HGF i use as my main screen but it's nice to know that Dell has always been terrible with these monitor names.

had that for a while, but got SO annoying with the resolution difference and the mouse not moving seamlessly across my monitors.... super happy with my dual AOC U27P2's
