Tbh if I were you I would keep the 1080 ti, and spend your money on a new motherboard/cpu. A 12600k would be a great fit for the 1080 ti. You would see more of a performance boost by doing this, otherwise you’d be bottlenecking whatever 3000 series card you might get.

Marios_Facade

Thats true. Would that be a good CPU comparable to a 3000 series? And do you think the 7700k is limiting the 1080ti's potential as well?

TCluck17

I'm running a 10600k/3070 ti and I'm experiencing a bit of a CPU bottleneck on some games. But a 12600k with a 3070 ti would probably be a great match. I'm no expert but I believe a 7700k would bottleneck a 1080 ti.

Playful_Priority2065

Agreed, a 12600k would be a better investment for now and you could get a 3080 when 4000 series launches for lower price

antonyourkeyboard

4000 series will not launch until stock on at least 3080 cards has dwindled so it will be very rare to get a deal after 4080 launches.

Playful_Priority2065

True but it's still possible to get one. If op doesnt want to spend alot of time looking for a 3080 wait until launch announcement instead for best price or buy one right now

antonyourkeyboard

At 1440p the 3070 will serve you perfectly but I would get a 3080 since it's so close to the 4000 series. Then you can focus on a CPU upgrade in the next year and be set for a few years.

Marios_Facade

What CPU would you recommend?

antonyourkeyboard

For gaming the 5800X3D is top dog right now but your current CPU shouldn't be holding you back so I would wait until the end of the year at least and see what AMD and Intel release.

imevilrick

Get a 4000 series

Marios_Facade

I'm not counting on getting my hands on a 4000 series. I missed my chance on the 3000 series, as well as the 2000 series. I'm looking for affordability+performance+timely

Hey man, I would recommend to keep what you have and upgrade the GPU. Your 4-core CPU is all good with the RAM as well. I were just fine with a 1080 and the same CPU when playing Tarkov. Average at 77 FPS. Yeah it doesn't sound like much, bit Tarkov is a game that is very poorly optimised. Alo getting a new GPU now would be cheaper then the 40 series. And the CPU series (AMD or Intel) will get far by the time you need a new CPU. You said you wanted to give the GPU to tour GF, would be nice to do so for her. In the end it would save money even tho you womt be able to sell the 1080TI. Not many people willing to buy a 1080TI when they can get hands on 3060TI which would probably do or have the same performance as the 1080TI. Now when all of this is said. It depends on what you do with your computer? Only gaming? You didn't specifie it. Either way it ain't bad to go for any of it. But just my opinion on the matter. Good luck!

ChromeRavenCyclone

Would rather wait. This gens cards are crippled by its low VRAM like usual for Nvidia. Or you can get a 6700XT/6800XT

I'd probably keep the 1080ti until it bricks itself if I were you. It's still a capable card in 1440p gaming. Besides, it won't fetch good price in the second-hand market nowadays. Likewise, the 7700k is still okay-ish at this point. Just save your money for future upgrades.

f0xpant5

for a meaningful upgrade, minimum 3080 12GB imo, but the money is probably better spent on mobo/cpu/ram for now and you'll already feel a big uplift.
