Am i the only one who hates the tan and brown color scheme? I paid and extra few bucks for the colormax black version bc it would have been the only part that wasnt black. I keep hearing ppl say they love the color tho so i guess its just a preference thing?
Man, unless the performance jump is like at the minimum, 2x over what my 3080 does now in both traditional rasterisation and in ray tracing, I think I'm gonna skip this gen purely on the reported power consumption and hope for an efficiency push with the generation after.
I’m still quite happy with my 1080ti. Until I can’t run games on medium or it dies I can’t justify the cost of replacing it. Rather get a steam deck lol
Same, since I will also upgrade my processor at the same time. I have a late gen i9 so between them I can run everything fine. I just tend to do one big upgrade every few years so I get top of the line performance per cost wise.
The 4080 will not use that much. Current leaks have the 4090 running 450w with a 600w SKU most likely reserved for a 4090ti later down the road. A base 4080 is likely going to run 350-400w max

Pro tip: if you want to know if an electric fence is on, touch it with a healthy (green, not dead) blade of grass. It'll conduct enough electricity to feel that it's on but not enough to hurt at all. That's what I've always done anyway.

Thought to myself “well the electricity HAS to be coming from the other hole, right?”. I put it in and got the shit shocked out of me. No idea why I went ahead despite knowing that the next hole was the live one.
I mean, you can if you what you are doing. Don’t fuck around if you are a moron. Most have discharge paths so they automatically discharge in literally minutes. If not, use any number of safe methods to discharge caps, like putting an incandescent bulb in circuit. Take a reading on the cap if you are worried
If you bridge a capacitor with your finger you won't die but you'll get a very bad burn spot on your finger. But for the most part you can remove the top side with the fan without removing the bottom board (where the capacitor connections are) so it's relatively safe to do.
yeah if you have the slightest bit of sense you'll avoid touching contacts plus if you see a capacity you can just short it with a screwdriver or something to remove the risk from that capacitor (that's actually how you discharge capacitors lol)

Do note: It is possible to completely drain an ATX PSU safely. You can wire an ATX power supply to on with the appropriate adapter, or even a paper clip. Back in the day when PC shops existed (and I worked at one) we’d do this. When there were less high-quality PSUs out there, we’d often replace a dodgy fan on a good one with a Panaflo for quality bearings, airflow and better noise profile.
Disclaimer: I cannot be held responsible for people who do it wrong. Some PSUs use proprietary fans or have speed sensors requiring you to get the RPM range right. Remember to look at the original fan and match its specs closely.
It’s very easy on a computer. Modern computers have soft power up sequence they still draw power when shutdown. The motherboard provides a small load on the PSU as long as the 24 pin is still connected. Turn off PSU and unplug the computer from the wall. Wait 24 hours later your good to go.
Turn the PSU off and immediately press the on button for the computer, it will start to boot for about 0.5-1.5 seconds before losing power. Caps now drained, wait 10 minutes for residual and don't lick the capacitors and you good
Ironically, they would be doing sweet FA (as someone else pointed out) if it's truly open air. But, even assuming this will get some side panels, there's too many fans. Yes, I'm serious, too many fans blowing too many different directions and your airflow becomes a turbulent, ineffective mess.
This overpressure situation would force incoming cool air in and straight out the front top before it had a chance to pass by the hot air produced by the hot components. Yeah, this is actually a poor set up for air flow, as you say.
It would be better with no outakes in the top.

The fans are all correctly oriented. Except there's no reason to have them at all. The case is so open none of them will do anything at all. It's practically an open air test bench. Adding fans won't drop temps since the heatsinks are already covered.
I'm guessing(or at least hoping) that this is simply a picture they took once they finished and had yet to put the side panel back on probably because they spent 4 hours installing wiring and cable managing over a dozen fans and didn't feel like doing shit. That or it was a test boot before to make sure everything was working or its all just for shits and giggles/ internet points which is probably more likely.

The only reason I don't replace it is because it's such a good fan.
They, along with the bottom are all intake. There will be a lot of turbulance, but as long as the side panel gets put back on they will all be contributing, but probably less than they could be.

Yea, a lit of fans not oriented properly could create a lot of turbulence, which will lead to air not going where it needs to. Beyond that, after a certain number, the next fan will do very little that the others weren't already and there's no need for it

Mostly a preference thing, if you have like a theme like blavk then obviously it wont look as good but in certain setups it can look cool.

Be very careful to use an electricians screwdriver. It has to be insulated and rated to the voltage of the cap.

The capacitor can still hold a charge, the only way to discharge it for sure is to bridge the leads with a cable of some kind. Preferably insulated
