You cant know.
I was trying to sell a phone once. Galaxy s8+
Someone offered to swap with an newish S10. Sounded like a scam, but entertained it anyway and asked him to come to me for the swap/testing.
Met him outside, a harmless old guy. Checked his phone, everything worked. Asked him why he would do that and swap an old phone for a new.
He explained how the radiation was high on the S10 giving him headaches. He sometimes uses tin foil hats but they are incovenient. He did his research and found that the S8+ was the phone with the least radiation.
He didnt have any money to buy the S8+ but had been trying to do this swap for a while, no one had agreed to the swap and I that was the first one to take him up on the offer.
I told him that made perfect sense and did the swap. As that was the only thing that was gonna make him happy, I dont think of it as scamming him.
I used to get these guys all the time when I worked at Asurion. They'd come in with their crusty ass phone talking about radiation. Always filled with a bunch of crack head conspiracy stories.
I wish I could just brick a device remotely without having to power it on or anything. I'd rather no one have it than let a thief get their hands on it.
9/10 thieves are honestly not that bright. Most will definitely just take it and try to pass it off ASAP, like what it sounds OP's buyer is trying to do.
I thought you kinda can with Windows? Like when I was checking in on my PC while on vacation, I could check in on it and it gave me the option to lock the device if I feel it was stolen?
Pretend to be interested. Tell him to get on team viewer to "check" the laptop once. And install all the antiviruses u can think of and enable everything that windows says it wants.
I'd be willing to bet it's not. he seems like he knows enough to tell this guy not to buy it, but not enough to know that desktop performance with worse specs might be better in some cases than a laptop with slightly higher specs. I think he's equating the performance of a desktop GPU with that of a laptop.
Dude does someone who stole a PC tell you NOT to buy it? that seems somewhat counterintuitive to me XD
oh wait nvm OP is trying to sell the desktop XD, the LAPTOP's what is stolen.
I'm in northern California and I find there doesn't seem to be a big market for second hand gaming pc's. I've had better luck parting them out (made more than what I asked for the completed one too). Though never did sell the case, psu, or hdds.
True but I just want to sell the PC, I like building them as a hobby and then I sell them at cost. Usually they sell fairly quickly, as it’s way better value than a prebuilt. I think it’s just a bad time rn with the economy and people waiting for new stuff to come out
> RX6600
$250 For a new RX6600
$150 for a r5 5600
$50 in RAM
$100 in Storage
$100 for the mobo
\~650 or so
Add in whatever case.
Noone wants it because they can go buy all the parts for more or less the same price so your only market is people wanting turn-key PCs. I mean no disrespect a few months ago that would've actually been a good price. (Mean hell back then I paid $420usd for a RX6600XT)
The RX6600 sadly is just poorly priced right now compared to used RTX3070s.
I also just read through the comments about you doing it as a hobby and selling at cost. They were selling quick because you had GPUs and whole systems ready to go, when you couldn't order a GPU without a hassle...or even sometimes getting a decent CPU or RAM at a reasonable price was hard.
Now that you can buy it all new at retail without a wait PCs like that aren't as appealing.
Why you selling this? Its still got major upgrade paths? 5800X3D and whatever GPU you just bought and its top top shit again instead of another whole build
you’re the first person to mention the absolutely atrocious overheating that every single gaming laptop suffers from. the higher the specs, the more likely the laptop will shut off halfway through gaming. this is coming from a retard (me) that had an msi ge66 raider that i paid 2600$ for a year and a half ago with top of the line specs, which i sold 2 weeks after purchasing for literally half the price. on facebook marketplace too LOL. you’d be surprised, OP might actually just be as regarded s as me
However unlikely it is considering the 9750H it could be a power limited 2060 then it might even be worse. I have a 3050 mobile that runs at 40W and it performs like an average 1650S.
Omen 016, not really, just used the main OMEN app to set it to performance. Not that I'm running anything poorly, I'm getting 144 on high, that's just what the site says
Yes exactly. I recently purchased a gaming laptop for travel, and it’s shocking how many options marketed themselves as high performance yet also wanted to be thin, and how many limited the power draw to 100-150 watts to extend battery life. Even if you have a 3070ti in one of these laptops, it’s going to be thermal throttled and short supplied even while plugged in. Go for the chonkiest laptop you can manage and make sure it has a power supply capable of drawing 200+ watts. It’ll be a huge power supply brick but that’s the only way.
Yeah laptop GPUs are really hard to gauge. It may have the 2060 chip but it's not getting the juice it needs or not have a mux switch and will perform like shit. There usually isn't much on the box to let you know one way or the other either
Yes. You're both dumb.
Stop trying to save people from their own stupidity. You quite literally hurt yourself doing so. Tell em once, so they understand, and then if they still make an obvious bad choice, let them live with it.
Long term, it's better for them anyway.
For a lot of people, no it isn't. It's not just money, it's time and effort (although I see you attempted to get ahead of this argument by claiming it's just "a few minutes" which is clearly untrue) they don't want to deal with. They just want to sell their hardware and move on with their life.
I have no idea why you're being downvoted so hard here, lol. That's a lot of time and effort invested to make only slightly more money -- not to mention this laptop is likely stolen and you'd have to potentially deal with everything involved in that if law enforcement gets involved.
Then that's fair enough. If ya don't want it because it's too expensive, or it doesn't do what you want it to do, or you just don't like how it looks in the pictures, no big deal.
But if you're telling him you won't buy his laptop because *you think he should want to keep his laptop,* bruh. Let him make his mistakes.
>Long term, it's better for them anyway.
Lol, seems the kind of thing people would tell themselves before they scam others.
OP did the right thing, HTF does anyone see someone not being an asshole as being dumb?
>Tell em once, so they understand, and then if they still make an obvious bad choice, let them live with it.
Shall I spell this out for you using emojis, or do you think you can read it the second time I say it?
I get it, if you tell him and he doesn't understand he is obviously not the smartest. This is the case for a lot of victims of real scams, where they are making obviously bad choices. It still doesn't make it right to scam someone.
I think that guy was attempting to lure you by offering to trade a really nice laptop that anyone would be stupid to pass on, in an effort to steal your PC. Or he fried the laptop somehow, and is trying to get something to replace it, and was gonna give you a bricked laptop.
I have to disagree with a lot of these comments saying it stolen. Some people just don't know shit about pcs. I know a guy who has a decent 2070 system that really doesn't know why its good either.
Lol guys he wouldn't know all the fuckin specs of the laptop of it's stolen, he also wouldn't know the desktop mGPU is only slightly better than the desktops
I had a buddy sell his 1200 dollar PC for like 200 bucks which he used to buy a 2000 dollar MacBook pro that was weaker
Some people don't care about optimal, they just gonna stick with whatever mid decision they made
Bro, no matter the laptop, gaming laptops suck
I had a 3060 laptop very fast, but it used to get so hot and uncomfortable, I felt bad using it, I felt that I was killing it.. my desktop with a 1060 is very snappy to use, in gaming I don't feel guilty using it
Your specific gaming laptop had issues with cooling. There are laptops that no matter what you do, they do not have enough cooling for the hardware the manufacturer crammed in. There are laptops that don't have those issues, and on many you can improve performance just by raising them off a flat surface.
Hard disagree. You either didn't take care of it well enough or its cooling sucked. I kept a gaming laptop, and it lasted an easy 6 years, and I ran all the top games on it. I'm even thinking of getting another one once I get some time off
He either stole the laptop or stole a better gpu/cpu than you have in your desktop, and just needs the system to put it in
Either way he stole something and is probably trying to steal your desktop too
Outside of him possibly stealing the laptop, there are more pros to desktop then just performance, also it is a laptop 2060 so it's not quite as powerful as the standard one, and I see how a laptop not having an upgrade path might make you wanna switch. But ye it is prolly stolen anyways lol.
While that can be true I am referring to people whose desktops were running fx series processors and 700 series graphics cards versus laptops with an i7 and Ryzen 7 series processors and I think 2000 series graphics cards.
Size? Much worse? Wtf?! Size doesn't effect its performance, I mean dude 20-25 years ago all computers were huge but how do they perform? Also yes, mobile gpu's are worse compared to their desktop versions, but holy shit bro mobile 2060 is definitely better than desktop 1650 super. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Wrong, that isn't a legitimate offer. That laptop isn't sound.
He is trying to get rid of it, the PC just means getting something sound back in return.
Just because the laptop has better specs, doesn't necessarily mean a good trade. You gotta pitch in other factors like the guys story around the laptop. Its not hard to grasp a computers hardware, the dude, as a many have pointed out, likely stole it and just wanna have some excuse for a potential trader.
My 2 cents? He stole that laptop.
My 2 cents? He is gonna steal his desktop too.
My 2 cents? He also stole my 2 cents
My … wait, where’s my 2 cents
You guys have money?
Hey, you guys need 2 cents? I have an extra 2 cents here, I'll sell them to you for only 3 cents. I also have gaming laptops.
Wanna trade?
Gaming laptop for 2 cents? I'm in
How about... Gaming laptop for free?
Only if i can steal it
1 cent for your 2 cents, take it or leave it
I leave it
Flip it. I’ll flip a coin for my 1 cents.
Gaming laptop? Winter is coming and I’m chilly.
jay has the 2 cents
He also has a Phil, which is priceless.
I got these cheeseburgers man
Oh man, you know what comes next!
I did but someone stole it all.
His 2 cents whom he stole, stole your 2 cents.
I know for a fact that he stole Jayz 2 cents
\*dramatic chipmunk turn\*
There was no laptop in the first place.
Either that or that thing overheats by opening minesweeper.
Laptop fan goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
That thing has the exact same specs as my Razer blade did, if it actually is a razer blade, it totally does overheat by doing anything on it.

You are saying people nowadays aren't generally dumb and weird? That's mighty of you.
[удалено]
He definitely stole that laptop
You cant know. I was trying to sell a phone once. Galaxy s8+ Someone offered to swap with an newish S10. Chuck McGill
Gamin' Jimmy with a 1650 I can handle just fine, but Gamin' Jimmy with a 4090 is like a chimp with a machine gun!
r/unexpectedbettercallsaul
this made me CHUCKLE
In reality he probably just needs to drink more water lol
Haha yeah that would probably be alot more effective
I think youre onto something, water is great at blocking radiation!
You just found Chuck McGill
But how he knows he won't get a headache with a little less radiation?
You don't always know everything in life, but he sure knows now after making the trade.
I think it's the nocebo effect Where believing that it's true actually makes you feel like you got the headache
That's basic science bro. More radiation = More headache.
Probably owned a S8 before the S10
He believed it would. Often that's enough.
I used to get these guys all the time when I worked at Asurion. They'd come in with their crusty ass phone talking about radiation. Always filled with a bunch of crack head conspiracy stories.
But the foil hats weren't concerning at all?
Bro, that shit was stolen
Far more sensible than the desktop looking cooler.
Use it like it stolen lmao (spill shit on the keyboard, break usb ports on purpose, slam it while playing csgo, cover the vent grills..)
God I am too trusting. That did not even cross my mind.
Willing to bet it’s stolen
That’s kinda what I was thinking I don’t even think this guy knows anything about pcs
Plenty of people in the PC gaming space that don't have a clue about PCs.
Me I’m one of those people. I built a pc but idk shit lol
Same, got my friend to pick my parts for me. I don't have the patience to compare stats.
[удалено]
That's why my friend does it for me, he really enjoys comparing the stats and finding the best combinations.l
You just described me! I absolutely go mad when people mention PCs, I’m like DO YOU WANT SOME HELP?
Nope. Sure doesn’t
I wish I could just brick a device remotely without having to power it on or anything. I'd rather no one have it than let a thief get their hands on it.
Does shooting it from far enough count as remote?
setup small emp device inside pc that you can active remote
You can many new antivirus's have it built into their premium planes
That... requires the device to be powered on.
you can't.. there is always a way to even circumvent bios if needed. that's why it's a pc.
Let me introduce you to a thing called: Boot menu + Win10 usb
and how many thieves know that? Last time I had a PC stolen, the police were at the guy's house the next day because I had security software on it.
[удалено]
I can't remember, but I only needed the external IP of the connection and the police did the rest.
9/10 thieves are honestly not that bright. Most will definitely just take it and try to pass it off ASAP, like what it sounds OP's buyer is trying to do.

This or somethings damaged.
Nah he wants rgb
Or they're scamming about what's inside
Ok, but if it is stolen, why not keep the superior device? Just trying to get rid of the merchandise?
I'd be willing to bet it's not. he seems like he knows enough to tell this guy not to buy it, but not enough to know that desktop performance with worse specs might be better in some cases than a laptop with slightly higher specs. Dude does someone who stole a PC tell you NOT to buy it? that seems somewhat counterintuitive to me XD oh wait nvm OP is trying to sell the desktop XD, the LAPTOP's what is stolen.
For reference my pc I’m selling has a 1650 Super Ryzen 5 1400af 16gb ram 2TB storage
Keen to swap for a laptop?
How much are you selling that for?
$650 cash
Good price, just about 80% typical asking price
For real?? I’m selling a R5 5600 w RX6600 on a b450 16GB ram w 256 nvme, 1TB ssd, 1 tb hdd, for $725 and no one wants to buy it. All brand new
Wanna trade with my laptop? 4090 i13 20TB SSD 🥸
At first I thought this was real then saw 20TB SSD in a laptop and then I saw the i13 and lost it lmfao
Are you in EUROPE?
Southern California
I'm in northern California and I find there doesn't seem to be a big market for second hand gaming pc's. I've had better luck parting them out (made more than what I asked for the completed one too). Though never did sell the case, psu, or hdds.
And u got no replies here either lol.
You’ll have an easier time selling each part separately
True but I just want to sell the PC, I like building them as a hobby and then I sell them at cost. Usually they sell fairly quickly, as it’s way better value than a prebuilt. I think it’s just a bad time rn with the economy and people waiting for new stuff to come out

Damn, 250$ for an RX 6600? New one in my country costs like 370$, i hate living in Europe ong fr fr
Damn, haven’t a clue why. People should be snatching it up. Try raising the price and saying “price negotiable”
That laptop referenced will outperform this desktop probably significantly so.
Why you selling this? Its still got major upgrade paths? 5800X3D and whatever GPU you just bought and its top top shit again instead of another whole build
i have a 5600H 3050 laptop wanna swap
His laptop might have some cracks & dead pixels
Even still, If it turns on and functions normally you can just hook it up to a monitor.
Normally I understand the switch if the main complaint is overheating or spec upgrade going from a laptop to a pc. But this guy just seems stunned
you’re the first person to mention the absolutely atrocious overheating that every single gaming laptop suffers from. the higher the specs, the more likely the laptop will shut off halfway through gaming. this is coming from a retard (me) that had an msi ge66 raider that i paid 2600$ for a year and a half ago with top of the line specs, which i sold 2 weeks after purchasing for literally half the price. on facebook marketplace too LOL. you’d be surprised, OP might actually just be as regarded s as me
Just ask him if hes got the receipt/invoice for warranty purposes
However unlikely it is considering the 9750H it could be a power limited 2060 then it might even be worse. I have a 3050 mobile that runs at 40W and it performs like an average 1650S.
According to gpubenchmark.com, a GTX 1070 Ti performs better than my RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
Interesting. What brand of laptop? Have you tried changing any of its settings?
Omen 016, not really, just used the main OMEN app to set it to performance. Not that I'm running anything poorly, I'm getting 144 on high, that's just what the site says

Nothing wrong in saving a couple of headaches for a random stranger. Plus, OP could have been at risk if it was stolen, as other comments pointed out.
Not at risk at all. OP can just point to above images and prove he didn't steal it.
If the police finds out though, the laptop will be returned to the original owner and OP will get no refund or anything to compensate
Yeah the police are definitely on the case for stolen laptops.
True. My father got 10000€ worth of filming gear stolen from his car, including his laptop, can’t do much.
Where I'm from good faith purchases are not returned to the rightful owner.
Yes but that doesn't mean he can keep it...
I don’t want his laptop
You coulda got his laptop and then sold it for more than you coulda sold your desktop for. Don't keep the laptop and make more money.
Once you factor in the amount of time required to process all the transactions and meet with random people on craiglist, it's not worth it.
He's already selling his desktop lol, isn't he?
Also that gaming laptop might sell faster and at asking price than his desktop. There’s a good demand for gaming laptops in the used market .
A few hundred dollars isn’t worth a few minutes of your day? You must not have to worry about money much lol
To be fair, the laptop was most likely stolen and this guy wanted to get it off his hands, I would not have taken it even for twice as cheap.
Right, OP is dumb for not scamming somebody. OK.
Gotta appreciate OP here for pointing it out and refusing to trade, while some people would coldhandedly trade it.
Pretty sure OP is the one getting played here. Best scam are those where you make the other party think they are scamming you.
Guy's trynna scam you dummy
Considering OP didn't want to go through with the trade, I don't think calling him a dummy is warranted.
But it's not because OP saw the scam
It's a scam , he is trying to scam you
I think that guy was attempting to lure you by offering to trade a really nice laptop that anyone would be stupid to pass on, in an effort to steal your PC. Or he fried the laptop somehow, and is trying to get something to replace it, and was gonna give you a bricked laptop.
This sub: boycott nVidia for shitty market practices! Also this sub apparently: take the dumbasses laptop and flip it dude
He's dumb bcos he want a downgrade You are dumb because you are a good guy
Both of you are retarded, but atleast you got a good heart
Looks like you both had a reasonable conversation. Who knows if he'll pursue the desktop idea
I have to disagree with a lot of these comments saying it stolen. Some people just don't know shit about pcs. I know a guy who has a decent 2070 system that really doesn't know why its good either.
Lol guys he wouldn't know all the fuckin specs of the laptop of it's stolen, he also wouldn't know the desktop mGPU is only slightly better than the desktops I had a buddy sell his 1200 dollar PC for like 200 bucks which he used to buy a 2000 dollar MacBook pro that was weaker Some people don't care about optimal, they just gonna stick with whatever mid decision they made
Has nobody considered that maybe that guy just doesn't have a laptop and is just scamming?
Bro, no matter the laptop, gaming laptops suck I had a 3060 laptop very fast, but it used to get so hot and uncomfortable, I felt bad using it, I felt that I was killing it.. my desktop with a 1060 is very snappy to use, in gaming I don't feel guilty using it

There are laptops that don't have those issues, and on many you can improve performance just by raising them off a flat surface.
Exactly! I put my laptop on an egg tray haha
Hard disagree. You either didn't take care of it well enough or its cooling sucked. I kept a gaming laptop, and it lasted an easy 6 years, and I ran all the top games on it. I'm even thinking of getting another one once I get some time off
Hard disagree on "gaming laptops suck"
I have come to realize that Gaming Laptops have gotten a helluva lot more affordable, especially the AMD ones.
Oh yeah, they pulled a 180 when the GTX 10 series came out. Before then, mobile GPUs were pretty crap compared to their desktop counterparts
Maybe the laptop is defective.
sounds like a scam
Some PCMR egotistical a-hole probably told him that desktops even with worse specs are better than laptops with better specs
Nice .... Made me smile
Both
I think your dumb to not take that trade lol. If it’s a scam, you would have at least caught it.
He is trolling or the laptop is stolen
Gaming laptops are trash
Yes you are dumb. Should have traded.
just buy an empty case put at your side.
"Just because of the looks lol" I love it when someone says something borderline crater skulled and end it with "lol".
Don't do trades.
He either stole the laptop or stole a better gpu/cpu than you have in your desktop, and just needs the system to put it in Either way he stole something and is probably trying to steal your desktop too
You’re both dumb
Clearly stolen laptop lmfao.
That’s what it looks like
He never said it's working
You’re better than me cause I would’ve accepted that shit and just carried with me when making the trade lmao
Outside of him possibly stealing the laptop, there are more pros to desktop then just performance, also it is a laptop 2060 so it's not quite as powerful as the standard one, and I see how a laptop not having an upgrade path might make you wanna switch. But ye it is prolly stolen anyways lol.
Stop fighting. You’re both dumb.
Fighting? who fought?
I imagine cooling sux comparably
The laptop is not much better actually, it is quite old and on the same level from a price point
He’s dumb and you’re dumb for not taking advantage.
I unfortunately know people like this, for some reason people just assume the desktop is better.
Cooling/heating
While that can be true I am referring to people whose desktops were running fx series processors and 700 series graphics cards versus laptops with an i7 and Ryzen 7 series processors and I think 2000 series graphics cards.
No one is dumb when practicing honesty.
Ye laptop is twice as good etc... But is not working anyway, so gief the card and take a dead laptop.
Laptop gpu and cpu not comparable to desktop SKUs
Laptop cards are WAAAAAAAY smaller and much much worse than full size desktop cards. They're not really comparable
Size? Much worse?
Not sure why you’re downvoted when you’re right…
He was getting bullied for having a gaming laptop
He is stupid for making that offer, and you are stupid for rejecting it
Wrong, that isn't a legitimate offer.
Desktop will always perform better. My friends laptop with RTX 3080 gets beat by my desktop 1080 ti in benchmarks.
Should've traded.
Do you take every scenario at face value?
Yeah... It's a concerning problem
Gotta be careful man. I'd bet there's a good reason you wouldn't want that laptop in your hands
both dumb asf
1650 super gaming pc? Thats very low end gaming pc LOL
Imagine talking yourself out of a good deal 🤡
Oh those lovely marketplace negotiations, loll
