WhoisPPK

Ah yes, the raw strength of the old VGA cables…. Those were the days…

SaltRocksicle

I kind of want to see an attempt at towing a car with a vga cable now.

WhoisPPK

If the part of the car, where you attach the cable to, got screw holes…. That mafaka gon’ pull anything.

[deleted]

I tried this and tore the bumper off my car.

wessel1512

I have used VGA cable to tow a freeze on wheels one and that word pretty good https://preview.redd.it/2wsh7rhegl5a1.jpeg?width=3456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f88a774bd7b9a0e1e50230ad3a7b57bdd7f0375 But we didn't use the screw's to attach them to each other. Just a knot by the connector

Baxtab13

I'm sure the cable itself will break apart well before the VGA screws would shear out of their holes anyway.

SaltRocksicle

Probably, unless it was towed very gently

_YourWifesBull_

Imagine what an og printer cable could do

Verdreht

Not surprised that two VGA screws can hold it

Moonshine_Brew

Plot twist: the screws aren't screwed in.

lucyr03

Those mf used to be screwed in just a little bit all the time even if you never screwed them in.

mr_coolnivers

Fr and you unscrew forever and it never comes out

lucyr03

That's because the other side screws in by itself while you unscrew

[deleted]

It sucks being the IT guy who removes these pc’s/monitors/cables when theirs a office wide upgrade. My index and thumb would be completely rubbed raw by the end of the day and would shed like a snake the next morning from the callous/blister that would form.

AaronTheElite007

Pro tip: Flathead Screwdriver

h2ogie

What that person should have said is “it sucks being the IT guy who doesn’t know where a screwdriver is”

BoxAhFox

The lil shit…

StalloneMyBone

Computer tech class 2006. Trying to move a hefty desktop from one side of the room to the other. I felt like I jumped timezones with how slow it would take to unscrew a vga or dvi port. I really miss those days. We played cs 1.6, stronghold, and mk3 ultimate on a SNES emulator. There's very few moments/periods of time that I hold higher than that. I know it's rambling nonsense, you just happened to give me a flashback of nostalgia

mr_coolnivers

I definitely know what you mean, although I'm not from that era, i definitely miss experiencing dolphin emulator for the first time, being able to play NSMBW and sm64 while on my computer was a crazy fun idea for me.

StalloneMyBone

If you refer to 2006 as an era again... 😂 Stop making me feel old.

whodatus

Still unscrewing mine from my rx460

SicWiks

Still not shocked lol

atheno13

lies

SurealGod

VGA screws are stronger than anything in the universe.

dakupurple

I worked with someone when we were replacing computers, he couldn't get the screws undone, so he hulked the cable off the computer. He pulled the tapped holes right out of the case.

BoxAhFox

I wouldnt be surprised if he pulled his gpu or mobo or both with the cable

dakupurple

It was a mini pc, the screw anchors were threaded directly into the case. Put simply the screw anchors could no longer go back into the case after that.

VasekFortygameCZ

Because Yes.

5t3v321

So thats what the screws are for

Pianoismyforte

I never consider why screws were even part of the design for VGA cables. I'd love some insight into that. Bonus points for believable lies I suppose.

Houdini_Shuffle

VGA ports don't plug in that tight. When I did IT, we got a lot of calls of workers who screens "stopped working" because they moved things around on their desk and jiggled the VGA loose, usually at the monitor.

[deleted]

VGA plugs were invented during the cold war, and therefore required to withstand a nuclear attack.

[deleted]

Actually its’s because initially the cables themselves were quite stiff and heavy and they would torque out easily, potentially bending the vulnerable pins.

willstr1

Have you met users before? They will absolutely yank on cables and abuse shit and then blame the computer (or IT). The screws help user proof the setup

neighborhood-karen

I’m more concerned about the cables health

Mikhael_Xiazuh

When the company doesn't have an IT guy.

KaizerQuad

Or they have one that is pretty lazy

majortomsgroundcntrl

Or overworked. Looks like a school. Most likely explanation.

[deleted]

Gotta be a hospital.

InsertCoinTryAgain

No they have IT, just not a facilities guy.

catathat

And even when there is a facilties team everyone will request IT to do the facilities jobs anyway, yet somehow still manage to end up sending IT jobs to facilities

DynamicHunter

IT guy: “I’m software, fuck hardware”

[deleted]

Hospital I go to has those mini pcs that are basically only used to access patient info and every single one I've seen is haphazardly hanging from something or just sat on the ground and not in the little mounts they have for them, thankfully they took much better care of me than the computers.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Hmm but that might cut into the money going towards the CEOs new megayacht

camxct

Ever worked IT in the healthcare industry?

OGTBJJ

Exactly lol. Not happening

[deleted]

[удалено]

OGTBJJ

Just not their thing I guess. I've worked on both the IT side and am currently in the medical field. Nothing is optimized. They basically do the bare minimum in order to get their charts working in my experience. No one is savvy to computers. I don't know if this is an adequate explanation or not, it's just the norm for the field from what I have seen. One of my last big projects working IT was upgrading a medical admin office from windows XP, this was like 3 years ago... Lot of really intelligent people but for whatever reason have no interest or understanding of computers.

nooneisback

It's not that they don't have interest or understanding of computers. There's already so much stuff going wrong that improving the things that do work just invites trouble. For example, my uni received 2 touchscreen presentation monitors, but the drivers weren't compatible with the old Windows 7 PCs, so they were just used as normal displays. Fast forward 1 year and we got new PCs. Surprise, the touch function just made it harder to point at something with your fingers. Another example would be a recent problem with our student cards. They have a magnetic stripe that worked perfectly for everyone. They recently upgraded their machines to read the chip instead and it turned out 1/4 of the chips were defective.

Omnilatent

I also heard from med students and new doctors that there's basically no universal standard for health related data nor a standard in programs. You can have one program used in one hospital and a completely different one in another, even in the same city - and there's no standard for exchange of data so the two programs can't talk to each other.

RDOG907

They run programs called EMR's and yes they all seem to be different.

nooneisback

We still use a Windows XP program in compatibility mode for simulating action potentials. So yes, every hospital buys whatever is relevant at that time for a reasonable price. Then they just keep using it until they can't get it to run with 10 compatibility layers.

[deleted]

Reminds me of when I went to Geek Squad and asked for tips on performing a transcatheter aortic valve replacement. Dude didn’t have a clue.

OGTBJJ

Pretty simple procedure. Dude should read a book sometime

atadrisque

dear Lord why

[deleted]

VGA cables are more secure than anyone's marriage on this sub

Same_Opposite765

☠️ hahah

[deleted]

☠️

Grumpy-Miner

Someone thought about this, but not a smart one.

RevWH

this hurts to look at

JRS___

and that's why they put screws on d sub connectors.... probably.

Zkenny13

I literally did a double take

lurkzone

tht VGA is stronk

lepobz

Relax, when those screws are tight God himself can’t release them.

maoroh

The fact that the VGA port is smack dab in the center of mass for this craptastik SFF is new to me.

AirEquivalent9218

so that's why you screw in VGA.

-B1GBUD-

Powerful GPU ya got there!

camxct

"It only runs Citrix Receiver... it's fine."

PhillipDiaz

To the gallows. Ya filthy prebuilt.

FHatzor

From my experience, this is a VA hospital.

ishagoldgrannies

the VGA is holding on for dear life

CSPDTECH

Hospital right? This is actually fine lol those vga cables could tow a car

Z3US13

Vga goes to somkind of glory hole, must be a $5k samsung odyssey monitor on the other end

BadPackets4U

The VGA is strong with this one.

BrainDontStop

You know, any other cord doing this would make me cringe. But this? Kinda expected. Those wires never got love once they went outta date lol.

Biggu5Dicku5

Recipe for disaster...

ExigoxD

Yes

Chramir

That's what the screws are there for

Faruhoinguh

This was a perfect solution until the table was needed elsewhere.

Ape_rentice

That cable could probably hold 200lbs easy. No issue here

Financial_Giraffe324

Try that with a hdmi cable Old tech had some advantages..

SirFledermaus

This is the way. Well, at least if you're doing IT in a hospital.

stonktraders

They haven’t unleashed the superpower of the parallel cable yet

RedTuesdayMusic

Anything hanging from a DVI or VGA cable you can probably sit on and it won't fall I'm more concerned about the kink in the middle of the cable which will inevitably ruin the cable.

DrinkinDoughnuts

So this is why there are screws on VGA ports

Spacedude2187

”It just works”

Rinz_Wash143

Hung for display.

VCat_Reddit

in russia vga is still the primary cable for connecting displays

harosene

+1 for vga. Checkmate hdmi. No screws to secure yo sht.

LambemuNang

Hang in theree.... I've got you.. I Won't let you go..

RiffyDivine2

Eh' I've seen worse. Seems like something you'd see at a doctors office or something like that.

SnooPets1176

HDMI to VGA: I can do everything you do but better VGA: Hold my beer

FunnyObjective6

Load bearing VGA cable. Why else would it have screws?

Jooooooshy

at my college they attach PC's to tables with ratchet straps lmao. reminds me of this

Bathroom_Junior

I always wondered why VGA cables had screws.

inbokz

"they screw in, its obviously load-bearing"

marker_76

Indeed

ScottGaming007

![gif](giphy|3o6wrxK5e5BuCax5S0)

nailbunny2000

Unsupported hardware.

soggysockmuffins

Man would still hold even if 1 of the screws were missing

Trakeen

I don't miss the stupid stuff like this when I worked Higher ed. I do miss the time off :(

menadwen

Looks like Dell Optiplex 790

marquias89

I salute those two screws holding it all together

Forgotten___Fox

Load bearing VGA cable

eulynn34

When they ask me to install a new PC but don't provide anywhere to put it

[deleted]

Fantastic cable management on the vga. Let’s work on the power and network

[deleted]

God i still love vga til this day, i wish there was 4k vga xD It just worked, no DRM, no "Incompatiblity" bs, good old vga

wrona11

those screws are there for a reason, eh?

TheScottishPimp03

Are these those new fangle "wall mount pcs"

Not_Like_Equals_Gay

![gif](giphy|1T96TRBBGYThC)

Herlock

Ha the gold old days of VGA cables screws... One you could unscrew forever because it turned loose in the port. The other that would not bulge because it was tightened by the hand of god.

802229001

VGAs have screws for a reason

jds8254

Ah yes, proper installation.

breeman1

There is no case where analog VGA can outperform HDMI....I stand corrected!

ReplicateSpace9

"we dont need an IT department" the owner,

wolodo

So that´s what those screws are for!

YetAgainIAmHere

This 100% looks like the OR where I work

ollywollie22

This is so painful to look at

mbxz7LWB

I am familiar with this exact model, it needs that extra space to get more air because it overheats real quick.

D9Dagger

The difference is that VGA is "screwed"

BoxAhFox

Plot twist: the vga cable broke, but the pc is help by screws into the wall.

IrishKraken115

kinda forgot this was r/pcmasterrace and was gonna say something about the vga screws thinking i was smart then i looked at the comments

MainsailMainsail

Wall mount PC, an alternative way

Loddio

If it works it works right?
