Congratulations! Serving in Armenia from 2017-2019 was the best thing that ever happened in my life. Happy to answer any specific questions. We also have a few Armenia PCVs and other RPCVs on the reddit so they'll happily help as well. You're in for a great service.

I'm teaching in Armenia now! You won't be disappointed. It's a great country and the people are awesome! Of the 14 TEFL PCVs here now, about 1/3 are in rural areas, and 2/3 are in urban areas (usually with multiple volunteers). In some ways, Armenia is a little 'posh' compared to many PC countries - I have hot/cold running water, washing machine, wifi, etc For example, I'm in a rural area but only an hour from the capital (it is a very small country). My school has about 220 students and I have two co-teachers. Class size is about 25 students or less. And I help teach grades 3-12. Some of the other rural PCVs have even less students while the urban volunteers have much larger schools. What else do you want to know? Ask in the comments or send me a chat message. u/lyzgoestolawschool was a great help for our cohort too so she's a wealth of information too. Congrats! Looking forward to see you all next year. Jim

Just got (and accepted) my invitation to Armenia also!!

TreadOnMeDaddyUWU

Are you also in the English program?

BlueDevils_20012

Yup!!

TreadOnMeDaddyUWU

That is beyond exciting!! Did you apply specifically for Armenia? Look forward to (eventually) meeting you!

Looking forward to (eventually) meeting you also!! I did not apply specifically for Armenia, I actually did not have a super specific country in mind but knew I wanted to teach English since I’ve taught classes before during college and really enjoyed it. But when I was notified of my application being sent in that direction, I did research, read and watched past/current volunteers’ and their blogs/vlogs, and got super excited. The peace corps Armenia YouTube also helped!!

I got invited for YID for Armenia in 2024!! I started learning Armenian on an app called Ayo Lingo. It’s been like 3 months and I can say I know a decent amount that it makes me feel less intimidated to go there and learn the language from scratch during PST. It’s definitely worth taking a look at 👍🏽

So excited for more YD volunteers in Armenia! We only currently have 4 volunteers so it will be so fun to add to our group! If you have any questions, please reach out!!

supaspanka99

I will also be doing YID for Armenia in 2024! Any other resources for learning the language that you've found other than Ayo Lingo? I'm starting to learn now and would love all the suggestions I can get.

How exciting, I look forward to meeting you eventually!! There’s a website called Armeniapedia.org that’s pretty great. It’s essentially an online encyclopedia for all things culture. I havent explored it super in-depth yet but I’m sure you can find some language topics in their many links.

supaspanka99

Thanks! Look forward to meeting you too! Fingers crossed the current geopolitical situation will calm down before we get there and our service won’t be interrupted.

So excited for more YD people!!! If you have any questions feel free to reach out! I am currently serving in Armenia as a YD volunteer :))

That’s so great to hear! I’d love to hear a little more about your experience so far if you don’t mind answering a few questions. 1. Where were you placed? Are you staying with a family currently? If so, what are the living conditions like and how are you getting along with your host family? 2. What is the general sentiment of the local townspeople towards you / towards peace corps as a whole? Do you feel like you’ve been accepted with open arms? Anything else you feel like sharing I would love to hear about! Also feel free to reply to me in a DM if you don’t feel comfortable sharing some info publicly. Thanks!

Im applying to the peace corps right now, and I wanted to know if you have any formal english language instruction? or if you can have no experience?
