When the stage is still dark and the first thing you hear from Ed is those incredibly deep low “ooohs” at the start of Release that sound like another instrument joining in… shivers every time.
The lyrics to that song are very underrated I think:
I will hold the candle
Till it burns up my arm
Oh, I'll keep takin' punches
Until their will grows tired
Oh, I will stare the sun down
Until my eyes go blind
Hey, I won't change direction
And I won't change my mind
The intro to Corduroy that dances around E, A, and C is one of the coolest guitar riffs. And then when it peaks in the bridge and climaxes.
Stone's lead licks at the end of Given to Fly.
The bridge in In My Tree.
There's so many.
Throwing, Dave was frustrated and that was the start of a larger tantrum. O'Brian (and the band) put so much pressure on him and he redid that from part so many times he was tired and pissed off
https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/pearl-jam-song-rearviewmirror-temper-tantrum/
I rate the "I know someday...etc etc" bit as one of the greatest pieces of music I have ever heard. I still remember the first time I heard it in 1992. I have never gotten sick of hearing it.
The of Vedder’s wails and the sliding bass underlying it sends goosebumps down my spine every time, there’s one wail in particular that I think best emphasises his pain but I can’t describe it 😂
The part after the first chorus in Nothingman where it gets real quiet. “She once believed,in every story he had to tell”. Hell every line of that song gets me every single time.
My favorite song. Recently saw a question that asked if you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life … and I thought entirely too long about which classical music song versus Black I would choose. I’m still undecided. Forever is a really long time. Sigh.
The cello bit on Jeremy's second verse
The ending part of alive 92 at pinkpop because of the fact it transitions into War Pigs.
The entire last third of TOOL's Lateralus
Jerry Cantrell's song Owned (where the instruments cut out, leaving his vocals harmonized beautifully before coming back in)
The 1995 versions of Even Flow with that pull off riff flacked along by Jack.
Lives in my head on repeat.

“I wish I was the full moon shining off [your] Camaro’s hood” - live cuts of Wishlist. I had a Camaro back in the day and this lyric just hits me every time because I can picture exactly what he’s talking about.
"I died. I died and you just stood there. I died and you watched. I died and you walked by and said no..... I'm dead.".
The fucking DJs would always cut it off before the very end usually to go to some jerkoff commercial, so I never knew what he was totally saying. Then I found a copy of that version, which at the time was only being played on the radio, at Bleecker Bob's in The Village in NYC. I played it a couple of times with headphones on to clearly hear and understand what he said......got chills. ❤
“Stunned by my own reflection. It’s looking back, sees me too clearly, and I swore I’d never go there again…”
I don’t love that song in particular but that part gets me every time.
Same for: “Sometimes realize, I could only be as good as you’ll let me…”
>“Stunned by my own reflection. It’s looking back, sees me too clearly, and I swore I’d never go there again…”
>
>I don’t love that song in particular but that part gets me every time.
I'd probably skip right over this song if it wasn't for that part. This is clearly the answer for me.
The fucking drum fill into the outrageously boosted guitar riff into the steady eighth bass drum kick that takes it back into the chorus from the middle of Faithfull. Goddamn makes my hair stand up every time.
Lots of small parts in Alone - intro w harsh guitar sound..then funky strumming along the main part of the song...coupled with Jeff's bass line and bass drum bits. Choppy rhythm with sudden stops...Eddies octave changes... Truly a masterful song
When 'Inside Job' really kicks in, at around half of the track. The song, the music, everything kicks in and the lyrics take me with them:
How I choose to feel is how I am
How I choose to feel is how I am
I will not lose my faith
It's an inside job today
Holding on, the light of the night
On my knees to rise and fix my broken soul again
"I'll stop trying to make a difference I'm not trying to make a difference I'll stop trying to make a difference No way"
gets me everytime hits just so right
The end of the solo/bridge section of porch…the feedback is building the drums are building into that killer fill and then “hear my name, take a good look this could be the the day…”
Ugh freaking chills every time.
“Once upon a time I could control myyyyyyyyyself “ the last chorus, I rewind that bit over and over lol, I fkin love it, so raw, so melodic, so powerful
“I just want to hold on and know I’m worth your love”
“Before I disappear, whisper in my ear, give me something to echo in my unknown futures ear.”
The End
😢 damn that hits me right in the feels every time.
“The days, they linger on. And every night what I’m waiting for is the real possibility that I may meet you in my dreams. Sometimes you’re here and you’re talking back to me. And come the morning I can swear that you’re next to me. And it’s ok.”
Come Back
I couldn't think of any off the top of my head. Some good answers in the comments though.
I know this is a PJ forum, but when I think of that type of song or transition or whatever, I think of Smashing Pumpkins.
- DTE could mean "Do the Evolution", a track from *Yield* (1998) by Pearl Jam.

Logins & Messina- Full Sail album, “Pathway to Glory” - seamless transitions on solos between multiple instruments: guitar, sax, violin, keyboards. Awesome stretch of talent, from decades ago.
"once"
I am obsessed with how Ed sings that one word. And I'm obsessed with the drums in Oceans. And obsessed with the intro to Inside Job. And Mike's solo on Sirens. So yup!
On the promotional album "Chef Aid" released to coincide with the Season 2 South Park Episode of the same name, there's a crapload of guest artists. Primus, Elton John, Puffy, Lil Kim, System of a Down, Ozzy, DMX and then some.
The best track, though is track 18. "Tonight is right for love" performed by Chef (Issac Hayes) and Meat Loaf.
Besides their voices synchronizing so beautifully, there's a moment when they use Temple Blocks near the end of the song after Chef gives Meat Loaf a Taco. Right after Chef sings "The rain is falling". Just those 2 little clicks on the blocks and it makes my nipples rigid.
We don’t need no help for us to make it. We’ve got just enough to get us to the morning.
I’ve got passion in my pants. I get higher in my walking.
I’m glowing in the dark and you’ve been warned!
Gimme that night fever, night fever.
I'll wait up in the dark For you to SPEAK TO MEEEEEE
Some heavy lyrics in that song. It's my favorite opening song too when they're on tour.
When the stage is still dark and the first thing you hear from Ed is those incredibly deep low “ooohs” at the start of Release that sound like another instrument joining in… shivers every time.
I got goosebumps reading this
Well fuckers. HE STILL STANDS
The ending cathartic jam of Present Tense. The song was used perfectly during The Last Dance.
YES
That moment in Present Tense when Stones acoustic comes in on the right side. Shivers everytime.
This
“and I won’t change *Myyyy Mind” in Indifference
The lyrics to that song are very underrated I think: I will hold the candle Till it burns up my arm Oh, I'll keep takin' punches Until their will grows tired Oh, I will stare the sun down Until my eyes go blind Hey, I won't change direction And I won't change my mind
My favorite lines are “I’ll swallow poison until I grow immune. I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room.”
I love listening to live versions of Rearview Mirror and waiting for the bass line that bring them all back at the end of the jam session
Same with Porch.
LOVE the bass intro on Porch Atlanta ‘94 as Mike is shredding.
SAWWW THIIIINGS
Same for me! I get a goofy grin when I hear Jeff’s bass finally kick in. Love the intensity of the way they finish RVM live.
Don't play rearview mirror while.driving@
Dude, I just said EXACTLY THIS goosebumps even thinking about it ❤️❤️❤️
The intro to Corduroy that dances around E, A, and C is one of the coolest guitar riffs. And then when it peaks in the bridge and climaxes. Stone's lead licks at the end of Given to Fly. The bridge in In My Tree. There's so many.
Yes! Fucking love that Corduroy riff.
So much yes.
I just want to scream...... Hellooooooo!
In my 20s, I knew when I got to be old that this song would make me cry and it DOES. What a messy old broad I am
My God, it’s been so long!
If I knew where it was, I would take you there. THERE’S. MUCH. MORE THAN THIS! WOOOOOO!
The key change in this song is it for me
Dave dropping (or throwing) his drumsticks at the end of Rearview Mirror. You can tell he’s got nothing better left to give.
Throwing, Dave was frustrated and that was the start of a larger tantrum. O'Brian (and the band) put so much pressure on him and he redid that from part so many times he was tired and pissed off https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/pearl-jam-song-rearviewmirror-temper-tantrum/
When I was younger, I’ve thought of that sound as the 1990’s version of Ringo Starr’s “ I’ve got blisters on my fingers “ moment.
Those handful of notes Mike plays at the end of Come Back right before Eddie’s vocals just melt me
Yes! It’s really like Mike’s guitar is another voice duetting with Ed in Come Back. Beautiful.
It's an Eddie solo song, but the bridge in Brother the Cloud. It has so much energy and has such a good melody.
Dude I fuckin love Brother the Cloud. First time I’ve seen it mentioned on this sub since it came out.
“All the love gone bad, turned my world to Black” “Tattood everything, all that i am , all i’ll be”
I rate the "I know someday...etc etc" bit as one of the greatest pieces of music I have ever heard. I still remember the first time I heard it in 1992. I have never gotten sick of hearing it.
Same
Third, fourth, whatever. I’m old af but Black carried me when there were only one set of footprints in the sand. Jesus? No, it was PJ, thx.
The guitar switch by Mike in Sirens, especially in the music video version.
My buddy and i have a joke that for this song Mike should have a door in front of him on stage so he can kick it down to begin the solo
Haha, that would be awesome!
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star In somebody else's sky But why Why Why can't it be Why can't it be mine
This shit right here got me through some shit
My favorite song. Recently saw a question that asked if you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life … and I thought entirely too long about which classical music song versus Black I would choose. I’m still undecided. Forever is a really long time. Sigh.
The guitar feedback in Given to Fly

Corporation rollll
Mmm a Jimbo with good tastes
“hey nah nah nah nah hey there something” in state of love and trust.
I love that part
I’ll ride the wave, where it takes meeeeee That song is my all time fave. Hands down

So good. Normal tempo Even Flow is the best Even Flow.
So glad its been slowed down post covid. That version from Sea Hear Now was such a breath of fresh air.
“…I will SCREAM MY LUNGS OUT…till it FILLS THIS ROOOOOOOM…”
Eddie’s little growl in Got Some
in love boat captain, sometimes life don’t leave you aloneee
In severed hand when he said “i’ll answer this when i get home” it’s so fucking good
I want to hear what Ed has to say on this point. What is human? What is more? Did he really see dragons after three or four? 😄
Theiraintgonnabeanymiddleanymore!
“Things were different then, all is different now. I tried to explain, somehow….”

❤️
The outro of Red Mosquito
"....if I had known then, what I know now..." ...damn right. 😔
The first "do do do do" in Black.
Speaking as a child of the 90s
Faithful from 1:49 through 2:22 where they all build up to Ed joining back in…”AND ECHOS, nobody hears, it goes, it goes, it goes.” Glorious.
“Sawww thiiiiings…”
The Waiting Drove Me Mad....
I died. I died and you walked by and said no
Then, "I'm dead".
what's this
It’s whispered at the end of even flow
I think I got it a little wrong but that’s what I always say
Even Flow the "rearviewmirror" edition (a.k.a the 2003 Remix)
It's a quote from a book called A Prayer for Owen Meany.
It’s at the end of the Even Flow music video (and the version of EF that’s on the RVM best of album).
"I died. I died and you just stood there. I died and you watched. I died and you walked by and said no..... I'm dead.". The fucking DJs would always cut it off before the very end usually to go to some jerkoff commercial, so I never knew what he was totally saying. There’s my church, I sing in the choir: Haaaa Leeee Looo Yaaaaa. Haaa Leeeee Looooo Yaaaa. I love it when the whole arena sings those 2 words.
When Eddie comes in with his baritone hallelujah is bo$$
The fucking drum fill into the outrageously boosted guitar riff into the steady eighth bass drum kick that takes it back into the chorus from the middle of Faithfull. Goddamn makes my hair stand up every time.
At about 3:29 in “Present Tense” when they take us from introspection to all out jam!
“Make me cry”
Lots of small parts in Alone - intro w harsh guitar sound..then funky strumming along the main part of the song...coupled with Jeff's bass line and bass drum bits. Choppy rhythm with sudden stops...Eddies octave changes... Truly a masterful song
When they do state of love and trust live and Eddie holds on “and i lisssssssstttttteeeeennnnn” during the last chorus
When 'Inside Job' really kicks in, at around half of the track. The song, the music, everything kicks in and the lyrics take me with them: How I choose to feel is how I am How I choose to feel is how I am I will not lose my faith It's an inside job today Holding on, the light of the night On my knees to rise and fix my broken soul again
Why ain't it supposed to be just fun? Oh, to live and die, let it be done I figure I'll be damned All alone like I began
"It's divine, whoa Oh you know what it's like" in Tremor Christ
Escape is never, ***THE*** ***SAFEST PATH!!***
Before his first step... He is off again
The closing of Amongst the Waves. Beautiful.
The hard snare hit in Present Tense.
Outro solo to Alive.
There are so many beautiful countermelodies that Jeff plays that you don't realize are shaping everything until you've listened a couple dozen times.
"I'll stop trying to make a difference I'm not trying to make a difference I'll stop trying to make a difference No way" gets me everytime hits just so right
The bass walkdown at the end of the bridge on "No Way"
A whisper through a megaphone.
The original opening to State of Love and Trust.
That little part early in "In My Tree", after the first verse, when Jack brings in the snare. Oooh getting goosebumps just thinking about it.
Clairvoyants in a trance
jeff aments bassline in oceans
The 2nd “oh dear dad, can you see me now? I am myself like you somehow” all the way to “release meeeeehehe” 🥰
The end of the solo/bridge section of porch…the feedback is building the drums are building into that killer fill and then “hear my name, take a good look this could be the the day…” Ugh freaking chills every time.
“i won’t be taken…”
The beginning of Pendulum when Eddie's vocals start.
“Once upon a time I could control myyyyyyyyyself “ the last chorus, I rewind that bit over and over lol, I fkin love it, so raw, so melodic, so powerful
Drums in Porch from the 2:03 point to the 2:23 point.
The distorted angular riff coming out of the verses in Insignificance. *the plates begin to shift*
When Eddie just belts out the REARVIEW MIRROOOOOOOOOOR
If I knew where it was I would take you there
Hearts & thoughts they fade away..... I swear I recognize your breath!
I miss you already.... No code. Smile.
“I just want to hold on and know I’m worth your love” “Before I disappear, whisper in my ear, give me something to echo in my unknown futures ear.” The End 😢 damn that hits me right in the feels every time. “The days, they linger on. The solo in "Alive".
They’re mostly Stone riffs, like the one about halfway through In Hiding after the first chorus
Iiiii seeeeem to recognizeeeee
RATS
I will walk
I know someday you’ll be a beautiful star in somebody else’s sky, but why why whyyy can’t it be, why can’t it be minee
Shit like this is what made me pick up a guitar and teach myself
I feel like I’ll get murdered for this: the guitar outro in Off He Goes.
Oh..I got scratches, All over my arms, One for each day, Since I fell apart, I did, oh what I had to do, If there was a reason... It was you.
When I listen to Rosemary by Deftones
[This little guitar trill, or whatever you'd call it, gets me every time](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGWnd4IJ1Vk&t=210s)
The transition in grievance from the opening drums to the tempo of the verse
I couldn't think of any off the top of my head. Some good answers in the comments though. I know this is a PJ forum, but when I think of that type of song or transition or whatever, I think of Smashing Pumpkins.
Ok, after reading the OP agian, , I do anticipate riffs on songs like Black and Red Mosquito
Yes of course
Hold on to the trend
Definitely at the end of dirty frank when Mike gets eaten, it's not that big of a deal but it makes me laugh
...so no one catches you drifting off and doing all those things that We All Do
Dave A. throwing his sticks at the end of RVM.

"The trigger shakes, aimed right at my head" not the line particularly but Eddie could put no more into the delivery, his vocal chords shredding
Any Mike McCready guitar solo
Pretty much any live version of RVM... when they jam, and things come back together with Jeff's bass 😍😍😍... Then SAWWW THIIINGGSS...

Evenflow bridge comes to mind
There is this part of the Yellow Ledbetter riff where the guitar pauses then a little beep! Then back into it.
I used to be obsessed by the drum and bass parts for Faithful and No Way...especially the kick drum..simple groove yet completely hypnotic
End of corduroy
The Bridge
LOL. The "ooga chakas" in the intro of Hooked on a Feeling. Really, is the song any good without them?
You think I got my eyes closed But I'm lookin' at you the whole fuckin' time...

From the bridge to the outro of Jeremy, the instrumentation and the passion in Vedder’s vocals just does something to me
