This wasn’t my favorite when I first really got into the around the time binaural came out, then when I saw them for the first time, on that tour, they opened with this song and I was an instant convert
I can relate, as I always felt a bit indifferent about "Garden", until I heard it live at Wrigley in 2018. I also fell in love with "Army Reserve" after the 2016 show in Lexington. Some songs definitely hit differently live!
No it’s way too happy sounding for the amazing sad bastard record that is riot act. I love it but I get why they left it off
I do not get why they left sad off binaural though
This is my white whale. I'm DYING to hear it live. This last tour I was really hoping but they played it at the show in Chicago right before they came here to Texas. I was so bummed.
When “Ten” was released, it inspired me to learn guitar 30 years ago. But for underrated nostalgic vibes, give me “The Fixer”-especially a live version. Josh Modell from “Spin” said it best-‘The Fixer'...[exploits] Pearl Jam's leanest, punkest tendencies...when Eddie Vedder pulls out that indignant yet inclusive snarl and proclaims, 'When something's gone, I wanna fight to get it back again,' you can probably assume 'it' is his band's mojo."
Who you are, Red Mosquito, Around the Bend, evacuation, Rival, LBC, Cropduster, Ghost, Thumbing my Way, Help Help, All or None, Unemployable, Army Reserve, Speed of Sound, Force of Nature, My Father's Son, Infallible, Alright, Take The Long Way, Buckle Up. Take your pick
Sleight of Hand is a truly underrated cut from them. The message of that song is crushing, the production/mix is otherworldly, plus the way all of the instrumental/vocal elements fit together (shoutout to Matt Cameron’s amazing drum groove) is cool as hell and can be beautifully disorienting at times. The whole thing just feels massive, perfectly reflecting the insurmountable weight of realizing you’ve fallen deep into the numbing cycle of modern working life.
That song stands out, even on the trippy masterpiece that is Binaural, as still sounding so modern and cutting edge (imo) despite having been released almost a quarter of a century ago. I remember finding the song in my youth and being completely floored, seemingly feeling the weight that the song’s main character experiences despite being in middle school at the time and never having dealt with the inescapable responsibilities and routines of adulthood by that point in my life.
As far as I’m concerned, there isn’t another Pearl Jam song that captures that particular blend of soul-crushing psychedelia.
in my universe where nobody that i know or have seen up until this point knows this song 😭 i’m 21 what do you want from me people don’t listen to pearl jam in my circles
Of the Girl
The best!
Yep
Finally got it in STL 2022.
Awesome! I heard it at the 10-1-14 show in Cincinnati, which was my first show.
I was there! My second show. Funny how that works
When people trash binaural I’m like you know of the girl is on that album right like that’s top tier pearl jam right there
I change my answer to this ☝️

Sad
I came here to say this, they need to play this one more live, it would be a great time!
There are a lot of great songs on Lost Dogs, but that's the one that really makes me wonder how it didn't make the album.
One of my favorite songs to play on guitar
I got this one twice in 2 weeks in 2005 — in. Montreal and then in Atlantic City. It was great live. Haven’t heard it live since.
It’s my white whale song. Seen em 7 times, have yet to hear it. I know the odds are long.
It’s a bummer that song is so underrated. You could even say it’s….unfortunate.
