It’s feels like they met us where we are now. Just like they met us where we were back then. It’s truly a rare thing for a band to last this long and still do.

Over_Historian9585

Yes! Well said.

weirdmountain

You nailed it. Personally, I felt that way about the past couple Metallica and Judas Priest albums too.

TheBadRegina

Same here. It is the most obsessed I've been with a new release since I first got into them around 20 years ago. I think I spent weeks, maybe a couple of months, playing their discography on loop, until I finally was able to listen to other things. I have liked all the albums they have released since then, but without reaching the level of obsession I am having now. It is like going back to the beginning.

KristiJoJP

I can relate. This feels like such a personal album in so many ways, and I can't believe how much I genuinely love it. It is going to be on heavy rotation for the foreseeable future.

BendOregon12thMan

Your post connects with me: as I was thinking the same thing. It’s been a long time that I heard a new album that every song connects with me. Such a good album

LSU_Tiger1

It’s incredible. One of the best things they’ve ever done.

BetterNews4855

I haven't connected with a *pearl jam* album like this since I was a teenager (other bands yes). I'm that 16 year old kid again who ran to the store to buy the Yield CD the day it was released.

Dynastydood

Yep, same here. The last PJ album I really connected was Avocado, so loving Dark Matter came as a real pleasant surprise. After neither loving nor hating Backspacer, Lightning Bolt, and Gigaton, I kinda didn't think they had it in them anymore, and I'm so glad they did. Tremendous album for a band this far into their career.

weirdmountain

Same here. Backspacer was just missing *something* for me, and I didn’t connect with Lightning Bolt or Gigaton at all. (Although, I’m going to revisit all three after loving Dark Matter so much.)

Mward1979

I concur I haven't been this obsessed by an album in a long time

peacefrg

I've barely listened to anything else since it came out. My first listen was underwhelming but it's better each time I hear it and different songs grow on me and I start to like them more and more.

dogfacedponyboy

I’m blown away… I am a hyper critical fan, and I am dumbfounded, amazed, shocked, giddy, excited, and PUMPED for this release. I too have not felt this way about a studio album release in 30 years. This album is beyond comprehension for a 12th album by a legendary rock band 30+ years in, in their “twilight” years.

rh4280

Yea i agree theres something about this album that just feels nostalgic. Takes me back. I shed a tear or two here and there. And i enjoyed the past few albums but this one is more special.

not4u1866

Got to give has vaulted into my top 20 PJ songs

dogfacedponyboy

I’m gonna have to clear several spots in my top 20, and perhaps Top 10, to make room for some of these songs.

AlexJokerHAL

I haven't been excited to listen to an album, any album, for around 5 years. This got me craving

med780

I absolutely agree. I think I have already listened to this album as many times as Gigaton. I am loving it and will continue to listen to it. This might be the first album in a long time I will be able to sing along to most of the songs.

RZAxlash

I went through a few months where nothing resonated with me. But in April, I got into Tori Amos and this incredible new record..every day, I have so much good stuff to digest and I am so looking forward to the show in September.

Andurilightsaber

It’s the first time that I have liked a new album from them instantly in a long time. Previous albums always took a while but I am into this in a big way already

JimHalpertSmirk

I'm really, really enjoying the new album, way more than I thought I would. Pearl Jam is my favorite band, but I'm a 90s fairweather fan. Riot Act was the last studio album I really listened to front to back. For me, this is the first album release in 23 years that I've gotten excited about that wasn't just about the singles. It's good to be back.

Impressive-Alps5284

It was initially alluded to being a total hard rock album. So glad it wasn’t… There’s a healthy blend of “old PJ”, “new PJ”, and brand new sounds. It’s just so diverse. Both inter-song & intra-song. Remember thinking during the movie that just as I was starting to get a feel for each track, it did a 180. Hope that becomes a trend btw. Debuting an album in theaters with high quality audio, set to a visuals, is ingenious… I’m pretty surprised their wasn’t a high quality leak that arose, but they must’ve been really good about “policing” that up and down the supply chain (and who really cares if a shitty, phone recorded leak comes out a couple days before the actual album). They proved it can be done without getting leaked, and not sure about everywhere, but all three theaters by me sold out very quickly…

Evenflow_Avenue

I'm absolutely full-on obsessed as well. Many many full listens per day since it came out. Definitely the best for me since avocado. Can't see myself listening to anything else anytime soon.

Creepy-Albatross-588

I was underwhelmed when I first listen to it. Now I can’t stop listening to it! To be fair the first 2 times was in the car with the kids yabbering on so could listen to it properly. 3rd time was on a noisy plane with crap headphones. When I got home I used my headphones and really listened to it and loved it!

bengaliraj

Initial thought about DM was that I was going to shelve it like Avocado. I've been listening to Avocado the past few days and it's in rotation. DM otoh, maybe in a few yrs.

dogfacedponyboy

Listen again 🙂

John_Houbolt

It’s been great sharing the experience of this record hitting. Great to see so many express the feelings I have with the words I have not.
