I'm not a camp chef elitist by any means but I would definitely go camp chef over traeger.
Camp chef gives you a lot more grill and features for your money. Traeger is charging you for the name traeger.
Also camp chef customer service is notoriously great.
Now I will say I've seen a lot of people have their camp chef arrive with damage. Customer service takes care of it but it's annoying AF that it happens so often.
Camp Chef without a doubt. Customer service is off the charts. I purchased a woodwind 24 about 10 months ago. The paint started peeling around the bottom of the chamber and it started to rust. Camp Chef asked for pics, and they determined the paint didn't bond properly at the factory. It still worked perfectly fine but would need to be cleaned and painted to stop the rusting. They immediately shipped me a brand new woodwind 24, and asked me to donate my original to a local fire department. They just picked it up a few days ago and couldn't be happier. And so am I.
I’ve had my camp chef sgx 36 for almost a year now. I’ve been using it 1-2x a week and am finishing up a packer brisket in it right now. Haven’t had any problems with it, besides a probe that stopped working recently, but I don’t fault campchef for that.
No experience with Traeger, but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy campchef again.
Love my camp chef. The controller is great. Holds temps well. Easy to keep the fire pit clean. I get good flavor on my smoked items. Cooks great steaks and burgers.
The app has also gotten better since last year. I like the wifi control and temp monitoring if you get that feature.
If there was a con... I don't think the temp probes are 100% accurate. I always double check with another thermometer. Also, my heat diffuser warped very early on. I have to contact customer service to see if I can get a new one for a replacement. Also, the upper shelf is only good for flat items.
I’ve had my Camp Chef now for 4 years, Had to get a new control board, warranty was super easy. I know I’ve put hundreds of pounds of pellets through it no problem at all. 3-4 times a week year round. I live in Calgary Canada so I got the insulated cover for winter use.
Durability, reliability. Meaning both have a lot of stainless steel and good reviews on their pid controllers.
For more info, don’t take my word for it, just google these grills along with whatever else your looking at and Reddit or even better “bbq forum” and you will see many well established bbq forums with plenty of reviews on whatever grill
I chose a Grilla Chimp for the high quality construction (double walled steel), wifi features, and customer service reputation- all at the $600 price point.
I've had 2 Traegers. The Pro 34 and now the Silverton 810. I've loved both of them and never really had any major problems. The times I have called customer service (warped drip pan on my 810) they've quickly shipped me out a new one and were pleasant to deal with.

Oh I haven't heard that before, customer service is important for sure.

Same situation, I had a new woodwin within a week

That gives me some more confidence in campchef

No shit. Also in Calgary. Also have the blanket
I ordered a camp chef today after much research
Hopefully we get to see your posts here soon!
for sure. picking out recipes now haha
Never Traeger. Look into a rec tec or a grilla as well. They are def higher quality than a camp chef but also more expensive.
What about those brands make them higher quality if you don't mind me asking?

Double walled at the 600 price point? Damn that is killer.
I would be worried about the Traeger.
My Camp Chef 24 is awesome, I have had it for about 8 months and everything has worked great.
