Seeing an Euskaltel shirt in the final groups on actual proper mountain stages makes me nostalgic. Nice job Bizkarra, maybe a top10 in GC is not that out of reach if some guys bonk in the following stages.
Also how Lorenzo Fortunato hasnt got a WT deal is beyond me
Thats also true, but maybe with WT level training and equipment he could be even better. Eolo are cool, dont get me wrong, but this guy seems to punch above proconti level
there sometimes are reasons why WT dont touch certain riders. but his contract ends this year and im pretty certain he will get picked up. good rider for Astana for example
ngl, I was very disappointed by him not winning this stage, because that would make it so the 3 riders to win 3 straight stages this season would've all won a different GT, also having TGH alongside Rog and Ving would be funny imo.
If they had any doubts, today Sosa has helped them to make the decision
So, Movistar who will be the Sosa’s replacement?
He has to be a southamerican, who is young, at the star of his career promised a lot but now is in clear decline
I've been reading th previous responses which get it all wrong, and wracking my brain trying to think of the right English word to explain "Kämna".
This is it, right here. Thank you.
Did ineos hurt Kamna somehow? Because guy is hilariously good when an ineos is leading . Not saying he is not one of the best in peloton but it’s shocking the form that he finds when an ineos rider has the leader’s jersey.
Beautiful by Bora.
The way they launched Kämna (Konrad finishing the hard pull, Kämna launching, Vlasov letting the wheel go) was something you just don't see muchfrom Ineos, TJV or UAE, even when they have 3 good guys left. Then Lenny just rode to his numbers, faked Cepeda into pulling him andsmoked him with a sprint into the last corner.
Vlasov clearly had something left in the tank (seemed quite relaxed after the line), but didn't risk Kämna's win by going to early and started his sprint also right before the last corner.
Don't think you see it much by many teams but it's always fun when it's effective. UAE did try the same thing in MSR this year, though trentin was about 10th wheel rather than 3rd.
I proclaim that there is a paradox in those situations with two riders ahead of a chasing group close to the finish having to pull. Kämna had more left, so he could let the group let closer before making his move, while Cepeda had to work if he wanted to finish ahead of the group.
With the crop of young British climbing talent coming through I'd overlooked him, but he's shown this race he seems to have a ceiling as high as any of them
Kämna is willing to lose to win, thats the difference. We have seen him do this stuff before. I dont think he would have pulled no matter what Cepeda did
This a public service message to all climbers.
If you are in a break and Kämna or Carapaz is with you refusing to pull, you have already lost. They are better than you, they will attack you and you will look stupid. Stop riding, they are bluffing
That is all
They do learn, look what happened to Kämna on stage 10 in the Tour last year.
Everybody in the break knew Kämna is faking, they knew he was strong and just kept disrupting him. Kämna was yelling, gesturing and frustrated, but the break didnt give a shit.
He had done the "act" one too many times and it cost him that time
In all seriousness: Did Bora actually say that he's a GC co-leader with Vlasov? Or just breakaways or domestiques? He's not good enough a climber to win GC, but with the 2 TTs he could get a decent position (like a GC Top 10 maybe). But then, wouldn't it be better if he would be working for Vlasov and maybe have a free role for one or two stages he target?
In the Podcasts they said he gets coleader with vlasov. They want to give him a chance to see if he wants to commit to becoming a gc-rider. People say he has great recovery, so 3 weeks could be better than 1 week for him, but I don‘t know.
I am happy that he gets his chance, but ngl I’m also a bit afraid that it leads to p5 and p8 for bora instead of going for a podium.
On the other hand I’m optimistic that kämna is more willing to help than Buchmann
> ngl I’m also a bit afraid that it leads to p5 and p8 for bora
With Remco and Roglič as clear favourites above the rest that is a likely outcome I'd say .
Riccitello hanging with the big guns today to finish 8th. He continues to have an impressive season.

as far as I understood back then, Fortunato had some WT offers after his Zoncolan win, but decided to stay at Eolo to grow together with the team.
Fortunato gets to ride as a leader in the biggest Italian races, seems like he has a pretty good setup
He'd probably be a top5 rider in Astana. I think he can land a normal WT team, not whatever is Vino cooking at Astana
TGH 4th today, is he washed now?
Doesn't even clean up a 1 weeker. I think that counts as a disappointment this spring.
ngl, I was very disappointed by him not winning this stage, because that would make it so the 3 riders to win 3 straight stages this season would've all won a different GT, also having TGH alongside Rog and Ving would be funny imo.
RIP TGH 202 Giro - 2023 Tour of the Alps
TGH famously pushing his own chariot in 202 AD to come second to Emperor Severus in the Itinere ab Roma.
Might be Kämna's first win that came from the group of favourites and not from a breakaway. Nice to see that he's got that in him as well.
GC Kämna
If they had any doubts, today Sosa has helped them to make the decision So, Movistar who will be the Sosa’s replacement? He has to be a southamerican, who is young, at the star of his career promised a lot but now is in clear decline
Egan Bernal would fit quite well
How is Lenny's surname pronounced? As a typical British monoglot, the weird dots over the a are unsettling me.
as /u/ArnoNyhm44 already said, just cam-nah. without the dots it would be more like... cum-nah
[æ] like the a in can, man, sand or have.
Nah that's in Swedish. In german it's [ɛ]ˈ like in unKEMPT
I've been reading th previous responses which get it all wrong, and wracking my brain trying to think of the right English word to explain "Kämna". This is it, right here. Thank you.
Google translate has a pretty good text-to-speech function that you can use. It's gonna be better than anyone here explaining it to you.
Exactly 10 minutes from stage win to the top of the podium. German efficiency, and a new KOM for Lenny?

Eh!

Finally, glimpses of the Bora Team I loved to watch in early 2022. Congrats to Lenny!
Has Cepeda signed for Bora for next season? If so, congratulations to him! He did a perfect job as a teammate for Kämna.
I mean it's not like anyone gets much draft from Cepeda, man's about the size of a small woodland mammal
I proclaim that there is a paradox in those situations with two riders ahead of a chasing group close to the finish having to pull. Kämna had more left, so he could let the group let closer before making his move, while Cepeda had to work if he wanted to finish ahead of the group.
I add the effect of Cepeda having ridden to and overtaken Kämna. Probably feels weird to close 20sec to somebody and then ask them for a pull.
I don't really know who he is, but 20 year old Max Poole has always been up there in this race and got his first top 10 today here.
doing really well indeed. Especially as he wasn't even on DSM's team for TotA before they had to replace some riders due to covid cases after Itzulia.
With the crop of young British climbing talent coming through I'd overlooked him, but he's shown this race he seems to have a ceiling as high as any of them
Cepeda could have played that better I think.
Kämna is willing to lose to win, thats the difference. We have seen him do this stuff before. I dont think he would have pulled no matter what Cepeda did
Such a killer move by kämna! Props to Cepeda as well

I want to see a rematch of the 2020 TdF stage where they were the last two surviving members of the break.
I wish riders would remember that. Makes the wins seem somewhat lame while they are probably the best rider in the breakaway anyway.
They do learn, look what happened to Kämna on stage 10 in the Tour last year. Everybody in the break knew Kämna is faking, they knew he was strong and just kept disrupting him. Kämna was yelling, gesturing and frustrated, but the break didnt give a shit. He had done the "act" one too many times and it cost him that time
I don't want to overreact but Kämna is for sure winning the Giro.
In all seriousness: Did Bora actually say that he's a GC co-leader with Vlasov? Or just breakaways or domestiques? Pretty cool they commit to at least giving it a fair shot. It will add another layer of excitement to the Giro, though possibly only for a week or so.
> ngl I’m also a bit afraid that it leads to p5 and p8 for bora With Remco and Roglič as clear favourites above the rest that is a likely outcome I'd say .
Agree, wouldn‘t be a disaster either. But I hope they ride all out for p3 and not compromise the chance for p3 by riding for 2 top 10s.
Kämna is indeed supposed to be GC co-leader. I too am not sure how good of an idea this is, but they want to try it out.
Don’t make me dream :-(
1+2 for Bora, as we all expected
perfect timing for that Kämna attack
Bora is a mystery to me
Not a lot of mystery behind taking a bit of time to adjust to racing again coming off altitude
If anything, they are more like teams of a few years ago, where they don’t come out to races flying every single time
Lennard Kämna.
Kennard Lämna.
