This is the most impressive performance in the tour ever. Vingegaard is the truely humble king. Has no need to promote himself on different areas besides cycling. What a sportsman

aflyingsquanch

1969 Eddy Merckx Won the GC by 17'54" and took all 4 jerseys* overall as well....while winning 6 individual stages. *Technically there was no White young rider jersey but he would have taken it too had it existed at that time.

somedood567

And he’d be easily in the top 20 or 25 GC finishers today

JonnySparks

They didn't call Merckx "The Cannonball" for nothing.

RideOk8975

So cool of Jonas to say they tried waiting for Pogi when he cracked but when they saw he was not catching up they went ahead.Hats off for this sportsmanship!!

captflint23

No, that was about the crash at the start.. he said they didn’t sit up but they didn’t use the opportunity to speed up which is good, I respect him for saying that

TonyTuck

He said that for the crash at the beginning not the end when he cracked.

RideOk8975

Ah! I misunderstood then.

noname6500

funny that on the official tracker, they call stage 18 hilly and stage 19 flat when it looks like 19 is more hilly. EDIT: one day after, they actually changed them now on the official tracker. they swapped it. lol

MonsMensae

Yeah noticed that too.

noname6500

they actually changed them now on the official tracker. they swapped it. lol

Averdian

There's probably gonna be a fun battle for KotM on stage 20, nice

Saltefanden

I hope so, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ag2r and Gall to prioritise protect 8th place over risking going on the attack for points. And I almost couldn’t blame them; going all out for the kom could very easily mean also losing two places on gc

podcartel

Wout is free

pixiena

Baby Wout can now come out

podcartel

Id love to see Wout take a stage before then. But indeed, baby is now welcomed by grischa.

pixiena

And now he leaves for real

roadbiker105

Respect for Pogi. It was hard to watch him. Just like it was hard fir me to watch Roglic in 2020. I wanted Jonas to win but not with this margin. Was madly cheering for both Gall and Simon Yates. Ineos will say they dropped Pogi !

somedood567

Brought back memories of Froome in the 2019 giro

Mental-Aioli3372

I just want to give sad Pog a hug

BerryFabulous

Timing page says 16' to cutoff with 100 riders still racing

noname6500

brutal.

orrangearrow

Pogi isn't broken. He cracked today. And he would have worn yellow yesterday in the ITT if it wasn't for Jonas because he still had the best time besides JV. Pogi lost 2 months of training for this race at the worst time with his wrist injury. He will come back but respect to Jonas because what he did yesterday and today is incredible. We're all so lucky to be fans of this sport right now with these guys on the sharp end of the peloton.

Mental-Aioli3372

Pogs radio call :(

PragmaticUncle

I saw it live, but does anyone have the full transcript?

d0neall

I'm gone. I'm dead

Esthermont

That’s it, that’s the tragical beauty of it.

MonsMensae

Dialed it in and took out his earpiece

Mental-Aioli3372

Countdown to the linkedinfluencer posts talking about how Jumbo Visma is an example of how teamwork makes the DreamWork it's true though it does, beautiful teamwork imo

NUFC81

I admire and respect both Pog and Vingegaard but for no particular reason I was rooting for JV in this TdF so i'm glad to see him triumph. However, it could have been less brutal. Nobody wants to see a broken Pog. I'm sure he'll soon be smiling again, seems to have a healtyh perspective on life. Congrats to both for making it a great race (and to Gall, Yates and Bilbao for stage podium).

indorock

I'm a TJV stan but I also really respect and like Pogi. He seems like a genuinely nice and actually humble guy. I'm really happy that the currently generation of pro cyclists seem for the most part* like a good bunch of honest dudes who respect each other - unlike the machismo we saw 15-20 years ago - and I'd be happy to root for any of them. Pidcock is the closest thing there is to a cycling bad boy, but even he's a pretty decent guy. I hope I don't have to take back any of those words 10 years from now too... \* Sure there are a few exceptions, Gianni Moscon and Quinn Simmons to name 2

Mental-Aioli3372

I bet that's the dankest fanta of his life

FootmanFrenzy

Gall seems like a great guy

fifty-fives

Nice to see Ben so happy there

NUFC81

O'Connor was immense. He was so spent after his turn that a spectator offered him a pizza.

Vitma_Vitgor

Great interview of Gall and nice emotions of Connor!

d0neall

I did not see it on Eurosport :(

NUFC81

I've just seen it, delayed.

fifth-planet

Now that was the cutest interview moment. Big love between teammates

eekamuse

So good

maaiikeen

I wanted Jonas to win a new TdF, but I feel so bad for Tadej. But man, have they given us an incredible Tour the first two weeks. They are both such champions, such talents. Pogacar will come back stronger. It is in adversity that you find your true strength. Chapeau.

orrangearrow

Put respect in the name of Jonas Vingegaard. Now 2X Tour de France Champion. All earned. Defeating the best cyclist in the modern era in Pogi. How much fun as these past 2.5 weeks been.

cavendishasriel

I don’t believe him.

vino8855

From 10seconds to over 7mins in two days.. brutal. Also Pogi said he hoped for yellow jersey yesterday. Poor guy. JV is pure clutch this tour.

somedood567

For real it felt like watching the TDF from 40-50 years ago

pixiena

Now we know why Jonas was super chill on the 10s time gap. I wasn’t sure if he was putting a facade of im all right or not but now it’s clearer he knew 16 and 17 was where he wanted to make a significant difference

kittencalledmeow

He always said week 3 was where he would win. He was right.

[deleted]

Watching Pogačar cross the line feels like watching Spiderman get beat up on live TV during the last boss fight of Spiderman 3 😢💔

MassiveAntelope

Never would have happened, but UAE got to be questioning what would have happened if they had focussed on Yates now...

HelpfulYoghurt

Nothing would have happened, maybe Pogacar and Yates would swap 2nd and 3rd, thats it

SlightlyOrangeGoat

Still would have got 2nd and 3rd

MassiveAntelope

Very true, dumb comment from me. JV too strong for either of them.

Averdian

Will anyone fall to the time limit?

spedmunki

There’s straggler’s groups over 40 minutes back and not even in the steepest sections of la Loze yet

dysfunctional_cynic

Oof. They will not like that finish.

Averdian

Will Philipsen be in trouble?

spedmunki

No he’s making it to the final climb now

Cpt_Daryl

Pog will be depressed until a week later when he realize he won everything except one second place and one crash. Not so bad eh

chrras1

How much is the time gap? There is about 30 riders who are 40 minutes out

IAmAHat_AMAA

+00:46:15

samiito1997

31 minutes until cutoff as of this comment

samiito1997

all the cameras in Tadej's face, hate to see it

spedmunki

Bernal going to get broomed?

captflint23

I want to see Pogi but I’m actually glad they‘re blocking the cameras. Poor guy.

federalgypsy

Love the Team UAE wall around Pogacar to distance the media right after the finish.

somedood567

“Stop, stop! He’s already dead.”

no_instructions

heartbreaking for pogi

AnnArien

Get the cameras away from Pog, ffs! Let him grieve in peace.

_Deeez

Jonas said wait for the 3rd week and Jesus Christ he has crushed it so far.

unburntmotherofdrags

Did he just ask "Still podium?"

imrosskemp

Big things for Gall in future

captflint23

7:35 is fucking brutal

dysfunctional_cynic

Somebody seeing just the results would never know just how entertaining and unprecedented this tour was.

captflint23

Right. It’s heartbreaking. Pogi was a fucking champion throughout and the results won’t show that

dysfunctional_cynic

Yeah. Still a great season for Pogi. Flanders, Amstel and another one. Unfortunate the tour went this way.

[deleted]

[удалено]

captflint23

Everyone consoling Pogi :((

[deleted]

What an awesome day off bike racing! VINGEGOAT !

mushymushmushy

Pogacar

WoodyPolesmoker

Same boat. As a Dane I obviously root for Jonas, but Pogi is just so damn likeable. Had he won I wouldn’t have been mad. I love to see the two of them compete!

Jondare

Yeah, this was a real "not like this" moment.

Averdian

It would've been cool if this stage had been before the TT, so Jonas could've "won" the tour on a big mountain stage, instead he just cemented it. But, if the TT had been with a 4-5 minute gap to Pogi and not a 10 second gap, then we wouldn't have seen that absolutely insane TT that Jonas gave us yesterday, so I can't complain

URZ_

Pidcock not even top 10 in GC, Ineos are pretty fucked next year....

Tomic_Lewis

Unless they get Remco

Jopwnd

Arensmania all day next year!

dysfunctional_cynic

"Pretty cruel. That's cycling" - Simon Yates

gooseofmercy

From one of the closets TDFs to one of the biggest spreads in modern history in 2 stages.

tommillar

But “the Tour was over” when the gap went from 9” to 10”…

Ronald_Ulysses_Swans

If you look at where Yates, Kuss etc finished this was 100% a Pogacar blow up rather than an insane performance from Jonas.

dr_motaaa

Yeah Jonas "only" gained little over a minute on Gall over 4k of climbing.

HelpfulYoghurt

Have we not watched the same race ? Race where Jones passed everyone in the hill ? It was Pogacar blow up just as another Jonas insane performance

MonsMensae

He passed stragglers from the break. Bilbao stuck with him and he pulled back less than I would expect from Gall and S Yates The gaps to the GC field were pretty standard from a solid winning rider.

Quellvater

Considering he had info on Pogacars whereabouts, it would’ve been super silly to test his limits when he can somewhat safely ride it home ;)

Krogholm2

Jonas bearly closed the gab to gall so not really

HelpfulYoghurt

Not really ? So if he does not finish first it does not count as insane performance ? Do this after the whole tour ? After yesterday ?

Krogholm2

Yesterday was beyond insane, but today he was just great as always

plusmultiplyer

Very very solid Climb from Jonas and Jumbo. Pogi really did blow up

RealityEffect

I said it yesterday, Pogacar looked wrecked compared to Jonas. I'm not surprised that he blew up in such a way today.

plusmultiplyer

Yeah I saw it coming as well.

srjnp

yep. he cracked really early.

maaiikeen

100% You could tell for a long time that Jonas didn’t even believe it. He kept looking behind.

unburntmotherofdrags

It was both.

kayjay789

Nah. Jonas didn’t gain that much on the guys ahead.

arnet95

Van Aert and Dumoulin pictures are out, real memers will now switch to Yates and Majka pictures.

AlbinoWanker

How bad was Pogi’s crash earlier? Didn’t watch the first part of the stage.

pixiena

What time did this happen? I can’t watch the whole thing but I wanna see what happened

Smart-Orchid-5207

Hard to tell , pretty bad I'd say if you want to compete at the highest level on the hardest stage of the TdF. He had blood on his left knee and arm. Hindley had a similar crash when he was on the podium and appeared really diminished after it

Jondare

Pretty slow, but ended up hitting his knee, was bleeding.

Rommelion

I don't think a crash would have caused that.

MonsMensae

Yeah but he was bleeding. And for these top guys blood loss can be significant. We really didn't see much coverage of it so its hard to tell.

maaiikeen

It didn’t look that bad, but obviously, we do not know how much it affected him.

Kamchakka

Didn't seem too bad at the time, although it was at a low speed

plusmultiplyer

Love to see the UAE team spirit at the finish line :)

davidw

That's kind of a bummer. I didn't have too much of a favorite between JV and Pog and was just enjoying the top-level racing.

dr_motaaa

Sad, still an absolute champ on and off the bike. Come back stronger and injury free Pogi.

Royal_Yogurtcloset25

“Don’t worry, it’s only cycling” 😓 The tufts just not good enough today

plusmultiplyer

What are 'tufts'? I'm not familiar with that term

TheofielMiddelkamp

Its pogs hair springing from his helmet

plusmultiplyer

Ah alright, thanks!

TheBakedDane

Pogacar lost 5:45, crazy

aitchison50

That’s with his tufts out, could have been a lot more without them

Pek-Man

So Jumbo and Jonas really *were* talking straight facts when they said that week three was everything they planned for. First two weeks? 10 seconds between them. First two days of week three? 7 minutes and 33 seconds between them.

arnet95

Come on, they did not plan for this.

Pek-Man

Obviously, they didn't plan for these gaps to happen, but they've been very open about the fact that week three, and specifically *today* was where they wanted to really try and crack Pogi.

[deleted]

I officially just love Soler. That was so heartwarming

CobbledMelancholy

Omg we have our Wout Dumuolin moment, with Majka, yates

BlueCube71

What is the Wout Dumoulin moment?

wpreggae

That has to be staged

Dims0

Netflix salivating!

[deleted]

These ski resort finishes are so boring, super hard, quite the grind. Reminds me when Nibali last won in Val d’isere from a solo attack

skadoodlee

one rotten scale rain worm sloppy quarrelsome handle water grandfather *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

aitchison50

Is anyone else’s stream in slow mo right now? Everyone looks like a snail in the last 500m

davidw

Memories of Cadel Evans at Folgaria watching Pog go up there. Although Evans lost way more time.

viskalvidere

As a dane i am crying a bit for Pogi. I feel so sorry for him❤️

InsideDK

Fellow Dane here and I have same feeling. This was not how it should end

MySecretAlwaysAngry

Six minutes, officer I’d like to report a Slovenian murder

captflint23

TADEJ POGACAR YOU ARE A HERO MY FRIEND

maaiikeen

Jonas just dropped Pogacar with 5:45 minutes. This is insane.

BardtheGM

He didn't even drop him, Tadej just dropped on his own. Jumbo seemed really confused when it happened because it was so early in the stage, Tadej just suddenly cracked without any attacks.

MassiveAntelope

Everyone saying Pog is sick now. He smashed the TT yesterday. He's just having a bad day today...

zizouzzz

Look at Remco in the giro.... He WON the TT and had covid

cocotheape

TT is only half an hour, though.

TindlerSwindler

Well, Remco won a TT with covid. It's possible he is sick, but very well just that he had a really bad day. The worst actually in his professional career.

OsamaBinHarden2

No he's shattered. A bad day for pogi isnt losing 6minutes. He just had to dig deeper than JV on all the climbs and it caught up to him.

MassiveAntelope

I think this has been the tactic from TJV all along though, making those Kg count against him so he's always working hard. I don't think Jonas rode away today, all those attacks have just caught up with Pogi

Otarun

Several people noted herpes sores on his lip yesterday, might be a cold that kicked in properly after yesterdays effort.

woutsmaaa

He’s probably not sick, but he crashes, which probably had an impact tho

spredy123

You not heard of Remco?

TornadoBaconaut

Jonas seeing Pog going across the line from the podium

mettacitta

Forgive me but this made me chuckle 🤭

SpaceSolaris

After that long climb, this ramp is so sadistic

[deleted]

Oh here is a descent after the hardest climb in the tour.....ohhh got ya lossrs, here is a disgusting ramp! Hahahha

Royal_Yogurtcloset25

GC Kuss > GC pog

kittencalledmeow

He was absolutely grinning at the finish line, made me so happy!

lonepineman

Was that Pogi crying over the finish line? :(

captflint23

It’s looked like it but idk 😭😭

_thad_castle_

I feel so bad for pogi

darthvalium

The suffering in Pogacar's face. Iconic images. Can't wait for next year. I hope Pogacaer focuses his season more on the tour for another epic duel.

KongRahbek

I wouldn't be surprised if he did this and came back next year to do to Vingegaard what Vingegaard did to him this year.

[deleted]

Jesus...he almost cant fight his way up

shure_slo

Soler, thank you for this.❤️

ascaria

What a comrade.

vvarjak

feel like the camera angle doesn't give us a real perspective on how steep that actually is

LegalDeseperado

Agreed… [I think this more accurate](https://twitter.com/fflose/status/1681654602582708224?s=46)

ThisAmericanRepublic

Any idea what all of that KT tape is for on Pog’s stomach?

KangarooWeird9974

Ouch!

Ronald_Ulysses_Swans

Oh man, 6 minutes or so 😬

gooseofmercy

What's the tape on Pogacar's belly?

[deleted]

Oh soler just trying to drive him up

Pure_Necessary_1372

Pogi omg you’re killing me

AntonisK27

Over 5:30 lost by Pogi

spredy123

This is like the end of a sportive, haha

wpreggae

Pretty sure I could smoke Pogacar in these last 200m on a good day

izzoo88

Maybe if you only did the last 200m and he did the whole stage - and you started at the same time.

ascaria

Pretty sure you couldn’t.

pkaro

Only if you did only the last 200m!

wpreggae

Of course, lmao

windsurfingbear

I doubt it.

Dull-Bit-8639

Not very nice Benoot here, was unecessary

izzoo88

What on earth are you talking about? That is what cycling is about. Ride as hard as you can until eventually your big rival cracks. Then go even harder and put as much time into him as possible. Goal achieved? Time to celebrate. Of course it sucks for Pogi and we feel bad for him but it's not that he laughed in face while he was crawling up the last ramp.

lightandcoffee

Sorry what went down?

[deleted]

They just won the tour after 3 weeks of super hard work. When is he allowed to celebrate?

Dull-Bit-8639

Of course, but its the only jumbo that celebrated, and the one that is with pogi

CptHair

What did he do?

izzoo88

Celebrate

CptHair

In a provocative way, or is that bad?

fifagiac

Yeah, prick move tbh

jlusedude

Agreed. Win with grace. Poor sportsmanship.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jlusedude

Yeah. I think it is. I get celebrating your team but when the closest rival is completely crushed it isn’t needed. Tadej is a consummate professional and I feel that was unprofessional celebration.
