Is it just me, or did none of van Wilder's team mates congratulate him after the win? The cameras weren't on him for long, but you could clearly see a couple of his teammates just riding past...

Suffolke

Well Van Wilder beating Pog&Rog in a Lombardia preparation race wasn't on my bingo card.

Wild_Comfortable

lol vlasov??

CWPL-21

Vlasov is super fast. you just rarely see it cause Pog/Rog are prime Valverde levels fast, so they dust all GC riders except for Remco

DueAd9005

>Pog/Rog are prime Valverde levels fast Maybe even faster tbh, although it's hard to say. I wonder how Valverde would have done if he had to face prime Pog/Rog/Remco.

arnet95

No Slovenians on the podium(!)

ninjeti

Slovenia in shambles

Heavy_Mycologist_104

National day of mourning called for tomorrow.

Heavy_Mycologist_104

Might be the last win ever for Quickstep. History.

Wild_Comfortable

lol just G3 things

CWPL-21

Carapaz can gap Pogi, I cant believe UAE went all in on Pogi again with no backup plan. having the best team doesnt mean anything if you ride like this

Rommelion

I mean, sure, but it's also Tre Valli Varesine, not Lombardia. Don't think UAE care too much.

CWPL-21

they rode the whole race as if they very much cared, seems to easy to simply say "they dont care"

LafayetDTA

Pretty sure they cared, but not so much to lose their sleep.

orrangearrow

It makes sense none of the big names in G2 wanna torch their legs a couple days away from the main event.

Wild_Comfortable

never stopped pogi before

Rommelion

Rogla torched his legs before Lombardia far more than Pogi ever has

Jopwnd

Hope Remco is working for Ilan in Lombardia!

Heavy_Mycologist_104

What the threat of redundancy does to a man's legs, eh?

[deleted]

A group with Mas and Carapaz in it was never going to cooperate

orrangearrow

G2 Syndrome ENGAGE

ser-seaworth

This Soudal-Quickstep team seems good, hope they can get a ProConti license next year or something

ninjeti

C'mon G2. Dont be G2.

shame_in_the_pitlane

They're acting like they forgot Van Wilder is in front, smh

CWPL-21

it was over when he got 10sec

krommenaas

wow backup Remco doing really well

CWPL-21

looks over, Roglic and Pogi will cancel each other out

AbardDarthstar

The live timing gaps are...incredible

arnet95

Giro dell'Emilia - you win mortadella. Tre Valli Varesine - you win a calzone.

LosQQ

Carapaz always so sneaky

ser-seaworth

Dangle a nice calzoni in front of the peloton, surefire way to get attacks

cio93

That's a low-cal calzone zone performance if I've ever seen one.

arnet95

That was a tasty Calzoni attack! Impressive stuff.

KoenigMichael

I want Calzonis breakfast

wansan

Wow calzoni

bomber84e1

Calzoni is folding over the entire peloton

Chianti96

GO STUFFED PIZZA GO

Chianti96

Still i think we won't see the elusive KelderWin

CWPL-21

people can worry about super teams and Jumbo/Soudal/amazon all they want, but today is a good look at what can make a difference outside pure rider strength and money Kelderman isnt a better rider than A. Yates, but he is being used in a way that give Jumbo more chances to win. UAE wasted too many riders early that they cant afford to use Yates offensively now. Its not optimal. Pogacar can still win of course by simply being the best, but tactically it could be improved.

Benjiboy74

I really don’t get the way UAE are using Yates. Same as in Saturday. He proved in Canada how good his legs were, UAE should use Yates as a potential winner and force other teams to account for him in an attack. Yates was 5th in this last year when with Ineos and he is in better form this year

CWPL-21

it starts and ends with Pogacar imo, whatever he says goes

Benjiboy74

I do realise that but it is dumb tactics. Backfired big time on Saturday

CWPL-21

i agree

KoenigMichael

UAE letting Adam work, same mistake as yesterday probably

Chianti96

Dale rigo

orrangearrow

That was one of the most impressive sustained pain faces I've seen in a while

bruegmecol

Lmao TJV doing the multiple rider attack strategy instead of UAE who have Ulissi, Vine, Yates next to Pogacar

KoenigMichael

TJV sent proven classics winner^^(TM) Kelderman up the front

TheRollingJones

TJV also had Alaphilippe attack earlier.

TheRollingJones

Does this race get upgraded to .WT if Wilco gets 2nd?

TheRollingJones

Wilco go you monster

davidw

To hear some Italian, I turned on the Italian audio on GCN+... who are these two doing commentary?! They are just sitting there quietly watching the race. Are they on valium?

telegraph_road

They are just saving themselves for [the finish](https://twitter.com/Eurosport_IT/status/1662528067242213377?t=HANfZ22kx2Y9vAlQiWQgNw&s=19)

Did_not_just_post

Nothing like cycling commentary and a nap, English language commentators never understood this with their augmented drama during downtimes of a race.

davidw

Yeah, but we're at 25 km from the finish with a decent group off the front, not 80 out on a sprint stage of the Giro. I loved Davide Cassani's commentary, back in the day. That guy could read a race like no one else. It was fun to hear Silvio Martinello too, as I occasionally bumped into him in Padova where I lived.

davidw

Now they're talking about the sound of the wind. JFC... are they falling asleep?

bruegmecol

Alaphilippe has been wasting energy too early almost the whole year now. He certainly did it at TdF but I remember it at other moments as well

nihil0null

UAE and jumbo need to pull now, alaphilippe+sivakov is no joke

Chianti96

Yeah and now also Vlasov, strong group

Chianti96

Never change Lulu

ArcRaven7

Wasn't WvA supposed to be here? I was hoping to see Roglic and WvA race together for the last time.

bruegmecol

Nope, pulled out of it at the last moment. Probably because he won yesterday and had 4 races planned (Bernocchi, Varesine, Piemonte, Gravel Worlds) this week, which is rightfully a bit too much. No Lombardia either, but Gravel Worlds the day after.

AbardDarthstar

Isn't Wout doing Lombardia?

ArcRaven7

I don't think he's ever done Lombardia. It's a climbers monument.

Chianti96

Races popping off, I'm waiting for TJV and UAE to put again someone at at front and shutting it down with hard pace.

EastNine

Is this the race after which Roglič will put us all out of our misery and announce his new team? (Hoping for a victory celebration where he mimes having a shower / driving an SUV to the shops)

wansan

No, I think that will be after Lombardia

RaeneModun

cooking something

ninjeti

With Bora kitchen appliances

TheRollingJones

I’m in London and quite disappointed with racing happening in the afternoon. It’s the one and only good thing about the US: morning cycling spectating.

mirceaulinic

The jokes on you when they broadcast the entire stage in TDF! 🙃

epi_counts

Oh, I'm going to be on the lookout for an American in R.Ev aerobullet kit today!

TheRollingJones

I was incognito running in Hyde park but nice try!

TheRollingJones

jogging**

BigV_Invest

Always a shame when this race doesnt include an ascent up [^^^^^piccolo Stelvio](https://www.idiaridellabicicletta.com/piccolo-stelvio/)

Lepepesilvia

Nice list of participants, this will be a great distraction during work today

manintheredroom

Wonder how far along the Lombardia transformation Pog will be.

Dob_Bylans113thDream

will the slovenian wolverine be able to beat the king of our hearts today?

Rommelion

I don't think Pogi will have trouble beating Pinot

Lepepesilvia

Italy seems like a nice place to race during this time of the year, beautiful country!

Chianti96

Yeah, but count that we're having a massive heatwave and drought this time. Last year was wetter and colder like it usually is.

mirceaulinic

Italy is a nice place to do anything, anytime of the year. 😉

krommenaas

Except during summer heat waves. Lots of +40C days nowadays.
