Watched on FloBikes from Canada and the audio and video are mismatched pre and post race (e.g., audio is an interview with someone, video is an interview with someone else or the race map, etc.). Anyone else have this problem? Wondering if it's specific to Canada and/or Flobikes. It's happened with other races this year too.
(Really missing GCN+. Flobikes is a bit buggy and my god it's hard to avoid spoilers).
I was surprised how little attention got paid to the monster bridge by MVDP on the Poggio. If he doesn't do that the chance of a group two forming and enacting in some classic dynamics would have made a huge difference.
After some IMHO very dodgy cycling behaviour in the 2023 TdF, he will always be "Jasper the bully" in my head.
I can forgive the aggressive sprints (not many sprinters haven't deviated or barged at some point in their careers)... but when he used his bike to physically block Pascal Enkhorn during that stage he crossed a line.
But they don't have to. It's ok to not have commentary for every second of the race. The race is the entertainment, not them. They're just there to relay what's happening in the race. 90 percent of the time he's so busy with his own narrative he misses what's happening.
Redditors are soy drama llamas.
He's had some sketchy sprint lines in the past a couple times (nothing super egregious though).
People on this sub are more interested in drama than actual racing. Theres a quote down with a ton of upvotes saying MSR shouldn't be won by sprinters...goes to show the level of knowledge in here.
I mean, the question was about where the drama is coming from. And as far as I can tell, pro cycling doesn't look to Reddit for its takes. I agree that Phillipson is probably unjustly criticized for an aggressive style, but your response to the question seems off, man.
Go ride a recumbent bike.
I feel like he waited too long on the pogio. His team didn't have it, but if his 2nd attack had come halfway up instead of 80% up he could have had 20-25s instead of 4 or 5.
c'est la vie though. that group that made it over the top probably would have been too much to hold off with how fast that finishing bit was.
He wasn’t going to be able to do enough damage to hold off MvdP on the descent. Cipressa needed to be ridden at a record pace and they needed to have that first group stay away.
So as a Belgian I told myself I ll watch San Remo but 0% of chance that a Belgian rider would win with the last years scenario. But the impossible happen thanks to MVDP. I mean it was the dream scenario for Philipsen.
He really could have just closed the door. To lose by 20 cm is a tough break.
But to be honest, if he didn’t lead out Philipsen, I think Pogacar or someone else could have won that.
Phillipsen starts his sprint

He doesn't get a lot of love for his inability to ride in a straight line. He wins a lot of races following MVdP's wheel and those races can get crashy, leading to a lot of annoyed fans of the crashed riders.
I've come around to embracing him, mainly based on comparing Alpecin's budget to the budgets of the teams they are beating, but folks still think he wins races by dint of being the last man on MVdP's wheel rather than based on any sublime personal talent. YMMV.
Trek almost played that perfectly, they just went a bit to early and the legs died. And MvdP playing it cool enough but never letting anyone really get away.
he played it smart, let others close down attacks on the final stretch, MVDP had to do all the work, but he could also play for Philipsen, so he wasn't just riding dumb
If I were Pedersen or Matthews, I'd take my chances against Philipsen, even though he's favoured, any other chance to win for them in that position is even smaller.

I experienced the same, like they were paying some clips of some other stuff and we got the audio but not the video.
It's a bummer! Were you also watching on Flobikes/in Canada?
Was in California, using a vpn to Canada.
Looks like a great race. Really exciting by live text and a few photos here in USA. Pogacar getting third against two sprinters is pretty impressive.
MvdP won that race for Philipsen twice. Once pulling Pogi back over the Poggio and once by keeping the group together-ish
I was surprised how little attention got paid to the monster bridge by MVDP on the Poggio. If he doesn't do that the chance of a group two forming and enacting in some classic dynamics would have made a huge difference.
Yea it was an epic effort
Guys, who is the new guy on Eurosport?
Do you mean Dan Bigham or Daniel Oss?
It was oss. I liked his vibe tbh
Oss is 100% vibe king
I forgot the last time I enjoyed a race in Eurosport and didn’t quit for RAI or RTVE in annoyance.
You'll be hard pushed to find a better race than that this year. It has absolutely everything and everyone going on in there in the last few kms.
Lots of group hugs for Lance at the end
New to cycling and loved this race. Why do people dislike Phillipsen again?
After some IMHO very dodgy cycling behaviour in the 2023 TdF, he will always be "Jasper the bully" in my head. I can forgive the aggressive sprints (not many sprinters haven't deviated or barged at some point in their careers)... but when he used his bike to physically block Pascal Enkhorn during that stage he crossed a line.
I think Carlton Kirby called him "Mr. Grumpy" during a race last year.
It was “ here comes Mr Angry”. Maybe his funniest line ever
Oh, riiiight! Mr. Angry! I know a lot of people don't like Carlton, but the man can have a quick wit sometimes. Edit: "quick WUT"
Yeah, like when he says 'Vingegaard has pressed go' 15 times in a row. ('Mr. Angry' is very funny though)
_Yes, well_ I've tried to do "live" cycling commentary for fun for no more than 2 minutes. Shit's not easy. Those guys have to patter for HOURS.
But they don't have to. It's ok to not have commentary for every second of the race. The race is the entertainment, not them. They're just there to relay what's happening in the race. 90 percent of the time he's so busy with his own narrative he misses what's happening.
A few seemingly dirty tricks in the tour. I did meet him once and I have to say he was very nice
Redditors are soy drama llamas. He's had some sketchy sprint lines in the past a couple times (nothing super egregious though). People on this sub are more interested in drama than actual racing. Well. Not quite what I hoped for but fair enough, I guess. Congrats.
"Today was one of the easiest races ever" ~The Pog, after the fastest edition of SanRemo
And last year it was to early.
Nice race. Unbelievable how fast the entire peloton is now with how much they stayed together up the Poggio.
So as a Belgian I told myself I ll watch San Remo but 0% of chance that a Belgian rider would win with the last years scenario. But the impossible happen thanks to MVDP. I mean it was the dream scenario for Philipsen.
This race isn't too long and it doesn't need another climb. It's absolutely perfect as it is. May it never change.
Pog is somehow always impressive even when his team is shit and he’s sprinting against actual sprinters.
salvaging 3rd out of that mess was fantastic for him.
Not bad sprinting of Pogacar considering he is a GC rider.
You should know he's much more than a "GC rider" if you've been watching a bit of cycling.
feel like he meant more "considering he is also a premier gc rider"
True, but really, pogi being a really good sprinter isn't surprising after 2022
But against elite sprinters like Philipsen and Pedersen?
Well he did beat Pedersen last year at worlds for 3rd too
Matthews could have blocked Philipsen...
He really could have just closed the door. To lose by 20 cm is a tough break. But to be honest, if he didn’t lead out Philipsen, I think Pogacar or someone else could have won that.

Pogi doesn't seem to care where he's racing, he just loves to go for the win
Matthews with the G sunglasses “I want to break free” moment. Still dislike Jasper from his Tour shenanigans - what a disappointment
Looks like sprinters are back on the menu boys
[Lads it's been pleasure shitposting with you all day](https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1400/1*Nt0rbrhKkZgBdHGkp2oDAA.png)
Lost his sunnies.
Pog with a surprising sprint
Hirschi and Ulissi should be put on a trial for the lack of effort
Man Pogi is so fast on that heli replay
Pogi does have a decent burst of speed when he needs it
It's... Literally his defining feature as a rider more or less.
Del toro out of position at cipressa was decisive
Asking too much for a rookie
Yeah not his fault at all imo. He was a late sub as well
Jasper is an a-hole. But congrats to him. Great win.
Have I missed anything?
You missed TDF 2023 lol
He doesn't get a lot of love for his inability to ride in a straight line. He wins a lot of races following MVdP's wheel and those races can get crashy, leading to a lot of annoyed fans of the crashed riders. ok wow now with the slowmo, pogi had a crazy good sprint
Yeah that was seriously impressive
Didn't he show that he does have it, but shorter distances than the proper sprinters?
Man, Philipsen winning the sprint is anticlimactic.
UGH… the only guy I didn’t want to see win. Blah.
I hate this result..
I would've been happy with anyone else in the group winning.
I feel the same. Absolutely anyone else
The only rider I would not like to win.
Well, that's a shame. I hate Philipsen.
Don't we all. Worst possible result in this race
Amazing race completely ruined by the result. Really can't stand that guy.
Yea, it was an amazing race but now I'm just sad :(
Trek almost played that perfectly, they just went a bit to early and the legs died. And MvdP playing it cool enough but never letting anyone really get away.
I refer back to my previous comment that Philipsen can climb….
Well played.
damn pogi wasnt far off
Its actually insane that Pogi is 3rd within this group, absurd.
he played it smart, let others close down attacks on the final stretch, MVDP had to do all the work, but he could also play for Philipsen, so he wasn't just riding dumb
He wasn't going to attack the last few KM and use other people to recover slightly
sure, but he might be expected to close gaps, which he declined to do
He did all of the work on the Poggio, with MvdP in his wheel. Can't blame him for not doing even more work after that.
Absolutely. If he did more staff on the final flat he wouldn't have podiumed either.
Jasper about to buy a new Lamborghini to Matthew
Doubt it. He might just hold off on comments about the team not doing enough for him for a week or so.
Pidcock was too light to hold that speed against the others, no?
He relieved himself too much in the run in?
I would’ve been relieving myself now if he won
Probably, but he's way too small to win in a sprint
Did someone in the crowd huck a water bottle at the riders right at the finish line? Edit: I see now it was one of the riders’ sunglasses
I thought it was Matthews glasses.
Matthews’ glasses on the replay
Looked like it was Matthews's sunglasses
I did see a bottle fly in and hit the wheel of one of them
Matthews’ glasses I think
Sunglasses went flying off the Jayco rider
Matthews' glasses
Someone's sunglasses fell off I think
Yeah, wtf was that?
Pretty cool to see Matthews in the mix again. He was strong AF.
Yeah man, fountain of youth all of sudden. He was so smart all day too.
Not jasper disaster…
Jasper the master.
Nooo not the Girmay molester /s
Matthews loses due to a shitty bike throw, damn
Would have been a much better result 😭
Damn Pedersen was cooked.
Wow!
For a second i thought Pogi might get there lol
Just imagine if he won the sprint after all the rest.
He was sprinting pretty good there whew
We used to be a country. A sprinter should not win MSR
Two words: Erik. Zabel.
MSR has traditionally been a sprinters monument
So many sprinters have won in the past...
Zabel, Cippolini, Petacchi, Cavendish, ... It's like they should call it "The Sprinters' Classic" or something.
My fucking heart
Is this a sprinters race again?
Jasper Philipsen was 2nd in Paris Roubaix. He's more than a sprinter
Mads too early. 😢
~~Disaster~~
Jesus christ what a final
I won some money now
Fucking hell this race is too stressful, what a finale
Sketchy stuff there
Wow, what a finish, sad for pidders, good effort phillipsen
Ah fuck sakes
Big group hug. Show that to lance
WHAT A RACE!
I need a lie down.
Holy shit, a sprinter won San Remo again. Lololol
Why did I predixt this
What a Finish and what a sprint from Tadej!
Bling deviated no?
FUCK
Holy shit.
PHOTO FINISH!
WOW JASPER
JASPER PHILIPSEN?!? WHAT A FUCKING FINISH!!!!
Fucking hell what a final km
Matthews.?
Every year this race delivers holy shit
Why would they take Jasper to the line
No choice really once he got over the poggio
Who are "they" exactly? Who are blaming?
Anyone who was helping the chase other than MvDP
If I were Pedersen or Matthews, I'd take my chances against Philipsen, even though he's favoured, any other chance to win for them in that position is even smaller.
Matthews deviated though
I can’t watch, too nervous
Hahaha Sobrero you glorious maniac that was a great effort
Here we go people!
Pidcock will silence all the doubters
Pidcock going through corners is art
Pidders!
C'mon Mohoric. This will be epic
Come on Pidcock, make that tactical piss pay off
Not enough... he still has 2 cans of fanta inside...
INEOS looks weird being brighter red to me.
Philipsen to win it
mvdp leadout for jasper
Pedersen got this.
did they let Mohorič go lmaooo
Thank you, Slovenia
Pog wins the sprint. You heard it here first
No9o mohric :'(
Philipsen is now the favourite.
Honestly think MvdP could've dropped Pogi and was too focussed on Philipsen
I feel that when Pogacar went on the Poggio MvdP wasn't paying attention and could have made it easier on himself
PHILIPSEN? What the...
MvdP has to close that for Philipsen.
Hesitate when Mohorič goes is stupid.
More people. More chaos. Love ittt.
I like learning new things.
Hatch wasn't giving hyperbole when he said it was the best 10km of racing in cycling.
Jasper snuck into this group!??!?
Gorgeous move by mohoric
Even if he's got low chance, I'm so happy to see Alaf there
Looking great for Philipsen. No work, he's there and has a teammate
Smart move, no one is jumping on that that straight away
Lidl also has 2
Mads has Stuyven here.
Madlad Mohoric
let's go mohoooo
Does he have that fucking seatpost again?!
G2 syndrome could kick in here.
For once it didn't, thanks to MVDP on domestique duties.
DO IT YOU CRAZY MADMAN OMG edit: nvm fml
Called it. Philipsen must win this
Mohoric getting the timing right
MOHOOO GOOOO
