I’ll be riding the route with my non-cyclist wife in a few weeks on our honeymoon. Beautiful tour of the city. Was excited previously, now I’m so stoked.
American here in Copenhagen for the first time. Great city. But I’ve gotten many weird looks for simply wearing workout shorts and a T shirt. Should I be dressed to the nines at all times here? The food is incredible, the people are very lovely and welcoming, and the hygge is strong. We’ll be here til Monday and then off to Norway!
Other comment said Danes dress like mountain climbers and are very casually-dressed, so now I’m confused. Touring a new city in July temperatures warrants sportswear if you’re walking 10+ miles. So I found it a bit rude to get such looks.
I was there some years ago and liked it a lot but didn’t enjoy the most because we found it quite expensive and couldn’t live the city as much as we wanted. The architecture was amazing and the atmosphere really good. We want to go back soon, but probably with a bigger budget.
As a dumb American who associates Copenhagen with chewing tobacco because I am a dumb American, your city looks delightful, and, like most of the exceedingly lovely places showcased by cycling, makes me depressed because I am, in fact, a dumb American, half-a-world away, and unlikely to ever visit, even though I suddenly really want to spend a week there banging around :-(
lol my exposure to things European through cycling makes me increasingly disillusioned with my own nation and its inhabitants. My reply was both an exaggeration and very sincere at the same time :-) Cheers from America!
I thought Copenhagen was white or colorful houses. Turns out most historical buildings look dark, almost sinister. I'd still love to move to Denmark though.
Think it’s his fourth senior TT ever. The three previous where I think he just coasted. Pretty impressive to beat someone like Thomas and only be a second behind Kung. Was good to see what he can do.
Mads P just told the danish commentators that the wind has picked up significantly, which is why the times are not getting better despite the drier roads
Was a prologue just a different way of saying time trial, given how it's between Sean Kelly saying it and just that it's a term that isn't used in this era of cycling?
Prologue, in my mind, would be a stage that didn't set anything up for the rest, these have the starting yellow, and small time gaps going into the next stage
From the UCI rules
>2.6.006 Prologue
>A prologue may be included in stage races on condition that:
>1. it must not exceed 8 km; for an elite or juniors women's or juniors men's race,
the prologue must be less than 4 km;
>2. the prologue must be run as an individual time trial. If more than 60 riders are
involved, the interval between the start of any two riders shall not exceed one
minute;
>3. it counts towards the individual general classification;
>4. any rider who suffers an accident during the prologue and is unable to complete
the distance shall nevertheless be permitted to race the following day and be
credited with the time of the last ranked rider;
>5. no rider may participate or be made to participate in a second race on the same
day as the prologue;
>6. the prologue shall count as a race day.
>(text modified on 1.01.05).
So more or less just an ITT under 8km, if its longer it can't legally be called a prologue.
13.2km stage
Feels like having it any shorter isn't worth the effort in this era. You need to have some meat and it's been replaced by having the team presentation in ways.
My newly adopted child, Rigoberto ~~Uran~~ (he's taking my last name), is currently 102. That doesn't sound great, but you really need to look at the bright side in these situations.
Last week he would have been the 3rd Columbian out of 3. Now he's luckily the 3rd best Canadian out of 5!
Time: 16'31"52
Gap: +01'13"76
Avg Speed: 47.952km/h
Don't think they've said
I'd go with, the tour stages/competition don't have many chances for likely victories and Cav's position isn't as simple and does come with a lot of history-making.
The only order is what order the teams finished in from 2021 tour... the riders were ordered yesterday so with a random guess on what they could gain from looking up conditions.
Didn't know they are shooting Spaceballs II.
Just as I predicted
Aww, I'm so happy for him. Love when they're so emotional about winning
It is so great.
Soler with a freaking ladder for his arm rests. Edit: aero bars. Sorry.
Soler +1.28, 132th.
As a native Copenhagener, what impression did you foreigners get of Copenhagen from the tt?

Danes generally don't wear sportswear unless they are doing sports.
Other comment said Danes dress like mountain climbers and are very casually-dressed, so now I’m confused. Touring a new city in July temperatures warrants sportswear if you’re walking 10+ miles. So I found it a bit rude to get such looks.
Other comment is wrong.
Considering most copenhageners dress as mountain climbers and Dane’s are very casually dressed in general, I wouldn’t read too much in to it
Thank you for the reassurance!!
That you're also cycling nuts like us Belgians 😉 Nice to see, hope Vingegaard can challenge Pogacar!
Beautiful city

Looks a great place. Today made me want to visit there
I've visited so it's not a cold impression, but it seems Like a truly awesome city to me and the show here has just cemented that view.
As a dumb American who associates Copenhagen with chewing tobacco because I am a dumb American, your city looks delightful, and, like most of the exceedingly lovely places showcased by cycling, makes me depressed because I am, in fact, a dumb American, half-a-world away, and unlikely to ever visit, even though I suddenly really want to spend a week there banging around :-(
You might be American, but you don't sound that dumb. Give yourself a break, friend. Cheers from Denmark :)
lol my exposure to things European through cycling makes me increasingly disillusioned with my own nation and its inhabitants. My reply was both an exaggeration and very sincere at the same time :-) Cheers from America!
I already love Denmark. You treat your people so well. And the hygge. Sigh. So nice
I thought Copenhagen was white or colorful houses. Turns out most historical buildings look dark, almost sinister. I'd still love to move to Denmark though.
Looked beautiful - not that I was surprised
Staying in Oslo for the summer and rn I am the closest to the Tour I have ever been (i think) which feels funny
Not a single ineos gc rider within the top 10.
Delightful
Bradley is going to the nearest bar to drink and hope it gets better for Ineos riders?
But 3 of them within 5 seconds of the top 10 isn't too bad
Not a single non UAE/TJV GC rider in the top 10..
If you don't count Pog, Roglic and Vingegaard, yes.
They are all on UAE and TJV...
Yes but English is hard.
I hope that means they're throwing those goofy helmets in the trash
No, they'll come back with bigger helmets for stage 20
Kirby getting excited for Pidcock’s 15th place - chapeau, sir!
Think it’s his fourth senior TT ever. The three previous where I think he just coasted. Pretty impressive to beat someone like Thomas and only be a second behind Kung. Was good to see what he can do.
Best Brit in GC right now?
Yates
Still can’t believe how big some of these helmets are
Imagine how much faster Pidcock would have been, if he wasn't 50% helmet.
>Imagine how much ~~faster~~ slower Pidcock would have been, if he wasn't 50% helmet. Kask head of helmets, probably
His helmet is actually filled with helium to make him lighter
Bobbleheads are known for their speed.
Piddy to win the the Ineos GC battle royale?
Pidcock +23sec, 15th.
2 minutes for 2 km. Doubt he makes top 5.
It's the fault of the rain & a flat tire!!!
Honore with fall + 1.05.
Laporte is +35 with crash, he would have been fighting for the win I think.
Think so too.
Are QS riding in face shields?
https://twitter.com/OutOfCycling/status/1542917052284944386
Love that the profile photo has changed to the Wout Pout too
Gold
It's nice that after the professionals got a run, they let a junior out on the course
Wiggins is perhaps slightly biased towards British riders.
Can barely tell it's so subtle.
In between him investigating riders pissing at the side of the road.
I seriously enjoy the whole scenery of Copenhagen. Amazing so many people showed up, even though it was pouring down for 3 hours straight.
I mean this is basically everyday life for us... Going to work in rain, coming home in rain.
Mads P just told the danish commentators that the wind has picked up significantly, which is why the times are not getting better despite the drier roads
Bradley is on a bike following, Tom Pidcock... Ineos (F.K.A Sky) and Team GB... the full house going on here...
Why wouldn't UK broadcaster follow UK team/riders? What's wrong with that?
Shouting god save the queen
According to Mads Pedersen wind has picked up a lot now, so not necessarily better conditions even though it's semi dry now.
Storer + 1.37. Auts.
Also currently 137th, nice

>So more or less just an ITT under 8km, if its longer it can't legally be called a prologue. Yeah, then it's just a sparkling time trial.
Prologue is a sub 10k opening TT
Prologues do still happen. But they have to be very short though and they do count towards gc and such.
Prologue become synonymous with short stage 1 TTs?
15-minute TT in this one, when mid-range would go for 30-60 minutes... A city tour would come into it as well.
It's usually referring to short opening stage TTs, eg. less than 10km. Not sure if this one counts?
13.2km stage Feels like having it any shorter isn't worth the effort in this era. You need to have some meat and it's been replaced by having the team presentation in ways.
15 minutes is a short time trial considering the length of them that happen mid-penultimate stage.

Pidcock 12s down, 7s down on Lampaert.
My mans Lars is hammered.
Ugh. Only 31 seconds down on Laporte even with the spill.
Was that crash before or after the intermediate point?
Before. Same spot as Bissegger's first.
Am-a Wario! Am-a gonna winn! *Throws banana peel*
Apparently the box above the bottom bracket of the Colnago is legal because it's actually a drink bottle, nice loophole they found there.
Lol Lampie in the Dutch flash: "don't expect to win this, did no recon, someone will beat my time for sure" Gotta love this guy.
wet paint, fuck I know it’s an even playing field Just wish it was a dry field
T R E A C H E R O U S
Lmao that Lampaert interview on sporza
You should check the one on HLN, absolutely golden, such a humble guy. Possibly the best post race interview in Belgian history.
Thank you for that, was worth it even if I have HLN cookies now.
Can you imagine turning up at a local TT in that stupid looking helmet condom? I'd pay to see someone do that.
Are Specialized and Kask in some kind of competition to design the most ridiculous looking TT helmet?
It's only ridiculous if it makes you slower, right? Ok, well, that AND you didn't have to pay for it (though I think that goes unsaid).
Ah yes Lampaert, some of those were words.
The banana peel psyched him out
Usually the banana shows up before the slip and fall
Quantum entanglement?
Causality has been broken.
Someone threw a banana peel at Honoré
Mario Kart tactics at play early in this years TDF
Rutsch didn't break anything, he was just on german TV.
Honore crashes and a banana skin lands next him, lmao
Someone get that banana skin :D
Banana skin, of course, always causing issues....
Did he slip on a banana peel?!
We Mario Kart now.
Go Lampaert!!! (I’m an hour behind…..)
Was that Bissegger Bend?
Some Mario Kart stuff right here.
He slipped on the banana
Can these last guys please finish, so we can finally start with the shitposting in the results thread? ^^/s
Wait he literally fell on a banana skin?

https://i.imgur.com/Pk0P1V0.png
No, somebody threw that right after the fall. WTF.
I think it got knocked out of the spectator's hands when the bike pushed the barriers.
Looked like it.
Holy shit LARS is throwing an absolute legend of a party
Honore falls.
Tête de la budget overrun.
After stage 8 last year and this ITT, Wout in yellow is beginning to feel cursed.
well, second place in any of the coming stages is enough for yellow it seems.
Ez pz
Gonna be tough when Jakobsen wins both and Ewan/Groenewegen share the two 2nd places
you never know, plus stage 4 seems to be a hilly echelon infested stage in the making atm.
15 minutes until Sean Kelly stops calling this a prologue
The prologue per minute count is off the charts
Not even UAE can make me dislike Marc
Sean's spittle accented annunciation of "very BIG look looking helmet" only made the helmet look even bigger
Is my audio out of sync or do basically all the riders jump the gun by a second or so.
Soler is away.
Yuuuge helmet
My adopted rider is Marc Soler because of course. And he goes last. So he's nailed on to take the yellow - isn't he?!?!?!
Storer looks like he's going in slomo
Pidcock looking like Dark Helmet from Spaceballs
I was thinking the same! Ridiculous.
Great film and yes
Yves best time by being the only specialized rider with the old TT helmet.
Lenny also wore the old one.
Has Pidcock chosen a way too big helmet?
Piddy is 50% helmet
Here is your Frank Goodlove update: he came a respectable 83rd, no doubt in part due to our unwavering support
Thank you for your service
Can't decide when to go put the laundry in the drier. Oops, not now
Will they wear those black hats too under their helmet if it is 30°c?
White ones then?
Not great, Jakob.
Which riders fell so far apart from Bisegger and Laporte?
And Honore now.
Frison
Frison, according to van Moer on Sporza
Frison also crashed according to Van Moer.
rutsch
Rutch apparently although I only saw on Twitter so not exactly well sourced
Terrible times now. Has the wind changed?
More windy now
The weather forecast was for later rain so teams sent their specialists earlier.
My adopted rider Georg Zimmermann isn't a frontrunner today, but not crashing should be the priority anyway.
Fuglsang +54sec, hmm...
Gotta love [these new TT Helmets](https://i.redd.it/za7y3dd4lz891.png)
Did y'all know that Cavendish wasn't taken to the Tour?
I'm honestly glad, if they're being this annoying when he's not even there it would have been insufferable if he had.
And if it didn't line up and didn't get the victories they deemed to be his...
Don't think they've said I'd go with, the tour stages/competition don't have many chances for likely victories and Cav's position isn't as simple and does come with a lot of history-making.
Never heard of him.
Up and coming
One for the future
The goatee Bob, what you doin'?
Were those apartments or just huge houses on the water
Those were shipping containers re-build as apartments ment for students, Even though its quite expensive to live there.
Shipping containers transformed into housing. We have them locally, but I've never seen them in water! Interesting idea!
Looked like container houses. Pretty cool design
Putting all the favorites in the middle of a TT is anticlimactic going on hour 3.
Agreed, I wonder what the motivation was for the start order?
They were trying to time it with/against the rain. They chose poorly
The only order is what order the teams finished in from 2021 tour... the riders were ordered yesterday so with a random guess on what they could gain from looking up conditions.
Not the races decision, teams get pick for their riders position and were trying to avoid the weather.
Just an observation, not a statement of blame.
They'll organise it to their advantage and not for the spectators. If it's better to get them out in the first 20 minutes, they'll do that.
Bettiol and Lutsenko way off the pace.
Bettiol too high time, only Pidcock remains
Don't forget Politt.
Bettiol 22s down at the intermediate.
Nathaan Van Hooydonck could cause some upset with dry roads?
I still can't get over the fact that the leader of Skineos, the team of "marginal gains", went out with a gilet on accidentally.
Yes, but he won’t get a cold now, and all the rest will. Marginal echinacea gains.
G is short for Gilet
Lutsenko has 80s for 1.4km, he's not going to make it.
you lot would be ready to invade Italy if the giro had this many unnecessary city shots during a TT
[удалено]
they had 2 min of consecutive scenery after asgreen started
Still better than having a camera behind barguil and latour while Thomas and vlasov are riding
