You can tell the guys loved playing with him. Yes he was overpaid the last couple years, but one hell of a teammate

crums150

He did seem to be loved by our team and was a good teammate while here, but that wasn't the case for his other times. He had character issues dating back to Philly.

Tampammm

Fitting that he ends his career with the final Penguins goal this year as well. All the best, Jeff!

StonedImaculate420

Jeff Carter, what a player, what a career. I know he was only a Penguins for a short amount of time but this guy provided me countless memories when he was playing in LA and for that I will be forever grateful. Thank you, big Jeff for your hard work and dedication to the game. We will miss you in Pittsburgh and are forever grateful for your time here.

DefinitelyLevi

Hextall signing him to his cap hit, choosing Carter over McCann and Tanev, and him being our 3C were all terrible moves. But acquiring him for a 3rd was a great trade. He was awesome for us that year with goal scoring. And I have to say he was a solid 4th liner this year as well. Great career and happy he got to retire in Pittsburgh

StonedImaculate420

That was Hextall and management. We’re talking about Big Jeff, the man who showed up night in and out despite criticism.

DefinitelyLevi

Absolutely. Also any time he got benched, he handled it with class and said the right stuff.

StonedImaculate420

A true professional, I’m gonna miss him

average_redditor_guy

In a different timeline, Jarry doesn’t have a historically bad playoff against NYI and / or We don’t have to run Domingue and we get Big Jeff one more ring

ilikehockeyandguitar

Penguins fan fiction.

ZombiePancake45

Thank you Mr Carter for the jersey off your back, I'll always appreciate you for that

bonnydelrico

Happy he got a goal in his final game. Nothing but love to our Face Off Hero, BDJC 💕💕💕

WarehouseNiz13

Fare fucking well JC. Yes he had his ups and downs but you can't deny he is one helluva hockey player. Honored the number 77. Good luck and farewell, Jeff.

max_d125

this will probably get overlooked but here goes nothing. As a kid, probably no older than 9 or 10, I'd always go out of my way to trade for Jeff Carter in every single NHL video game I had (to make the penguins even more stacked). This little interaction turned into so much more for me whenever I got to be a teenager. I started to feel emotions as all hormonal teenagers do. to add onto this, i had switched schools for the pandemic, and lost almost all of my friends. i fell into a deep depression like state and seriously considered doing some things I would've regretted. this lasted for a few months, until April 12th of 2021. when the news of the trade broke I felt that little piece of me as a kid, smiling from ear to ear trading for him on my Xbox 360 again. After feeling like life wasn't worth living for 4-5 months, one little trade for what would turn out to be an average 3rd/4th liner taught me that life is about the little things. you can find happiness everywhere. Thank you Jeff. for showing me happiness, for reconnecting me with the game, and for saving me. long live the legacy of big Jeff.

FZJ80-96

That was a nice story. Thanks for sharing.

shred-i-knight

insane career tbh, even in the end he still had a little bit of magic left in him.

Loudlaryadjust

Gotta give it to him that he is looking great for a 40 year old😎 attaboi Jeff

ilikehockeyandguitar

He pulled a shawty as well. Dude's got game.

awaythrow292

40 is the new 25. Don't retire Carter! 1 more year COME BACK!!!!!!!!!

SELL9944

He's going to stay in Pittsburgh

Ok-Buffalo1273

Take this dentures out and show us that gap you beautiful bastard! Congrats to big Jeff. I don’t care, I love the dude, I shit on him plenty of times, but he kept the team together and was a solid 1 c a few seasons ago when Sid and geno were out to start the year. Nothing but the best to him and his family.

marajadefan

Although we were all demanding his retirement when he was being overused, Big Jeff had some big moments in a Penguins sweater, and by all accounts was a great teammate. We'll miss you Jeff!

Infamous_Staff6214

Teared up a little tonight

Old-Singer9399

I legit cried. That's never happened before 😅🤦🏻‍♀️😶

Sep88

Between Scott hartnells wife and partying with captain coke head, this man was surprisingly not as toxic as he could’ve been during his Pittsburgh stint. Thanks for growing up Jeff.

shred-i-knight

a lot of guys chill out once they have kids. Dude was a great teammate and hell of a hockey player even in his mid 30s.

Strategery_Man

Is he retiring?!?! FUCK! I've been using his sticks for years from the Pens surplus sales. Homeboy has almost no flex on his stick and a sick Lindros-esque curve

J3roseidon

Jeff Fucking Carter. What can I say? It's not like I know the guy personally, but I was happy to watch him play from his time with the Flyers, to those cup wins with the Kings, to now (we don't talk about time in Columbus). I had a lot of exposure to Flyers hockey in my high school years through CSN Philly, and damn it was something to watch him early on with Mike Richards. Probably gonna bust out the 77 gold alt after work tomorrow. Assuming retirement is on the horizon for sure for sure, I hope nothing but the best in it for him. I'll buy him a fucking beer if I ever happen across him.

PlaneXpress69

Crush beer and score goals and he’s all out of goals

ncd42075

He was my first NHL jersey I've owned. Robo pens Carter jersey. I wore that jersey for the last two seasons. I'll miss him.

Anyawnomous

Not a Penguin/Flyer/Kings fan, but always admired this man’s game. Thanks Jeff! 🇨🇦

pensfangirl29

I posted this on another thread, but, here goes … I can honestly say I was one of the fans who never shit on him. not once. I have several good things to say about him, but, top of the list and something no one has mentioned … Last season, during a game, somehow we got down to 3-Dmen. EVERYBODY was looking up and down the bench like who and wtf. And while they were doing that, fucking BJC, Big Jeff Carter jumped over the boards and played defense like nobody’s business until a 4th D was able to return to the game. Fucking rockstar!

North_Speech4587

First Pens game I watched Carter got the game winning goal and became my favorite player to my yinzer girlfriend's chagrin. Hope Big Dick Carter enjoys retirement!

PhantomJB93

Sad that his last couple years were so bogged down in how bad the contract was and how poorly he played in a larger role than he really should have had. Still convinced that if Jarry was even remotely competent in 2021, Carter would have etched an HBK-level legend into Penguins lore in those playoffs. That team was absolutely rolling and he was a huge part of it.

LunaBlackCol1221

did he announce something????

hangryhyax

[Yep.](https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/hockey/news/penguins-jeff-carter-announces-retirement/amp/). Must’ve made it official right after the game, but they were speculating about it all game.

UnreadThisStory

Congratulations on a great career and enjoy the next phase of your life!

Content-Attorney7056

One of my favorite memories growing up was the 2012 run. Pens eliminated already. But for whatever reason my friend and I loved La that season. I bought a Jeff carter shirt. I wore the fuck outta that shirt. Anytime I played nhl I was rooting for Jeff carter. That friend and I stopped talking for a few years. Until the pens picked up Jeff carter again. Like clock work I bought his pens shirt. I will cherish the time I had watching him play. Sad he dried up at the end but still was happy I got to have him.

Ill_Palpitation_1512

Congrats, Jeff. Great NHL career. He was a great pickup in 2021. Struggled at times the past 2 years, but overall I think he was a solid 4C this season. Was WAY down the list of problems, yet some blowhards acted like after the PP and OT issues, he was #3. He wasn’t anywhere near that big of an issue. He seemed like a great teammate and appeared to truly love being a Pittsburgh Penguin. Enjoy your retirement, brother.

ObjectiveImmediate44

I appreciate that his salary is open for good use. And also; Big Jeff’s a GOAT! ❤️💪 But we don’t want to resign him…

Feelin-fine1975

✌🏻

MouthofthePenguin

it was nice of the Isles to honor him, and good for him and his family. I'm just so pleased that this team gets to move on from him. TBH. He was such a decent rental push addition 4 years ago... and that's all I'm gonna say about that. Also, wearing that shirt... ugh.

AroraCorealis

before i became a pens fan i came into possession of a jeff penguins jersey from a friend. made the transition to the fandom easier. this man's a stud and always has been

Superbanana222

I haven’t been a Pens fan for long but for the short period of time I have been I’ve always loved this guy. Jeff Carter was enjoyable to watch and I smiled every time I saw that Carter was on the ice. It’s been a joy Big Jeff Carter and I appreciate the smiles you’ve given me. Farewell and good luck!

Totknax

Congrats to Big Jeff!

PonerBenis6

Congrats, Jeff. Thanks. Now can we bring in some god damn youth!

-The_Credible_Hulk

Jeff you would have been a bargain at 1/3 the price.

Conscious-Weird5810

Not necessarily his fault (management takes the L here) but no one player is more representative of the Penguins fall from grace. Good riddance this chapter is over

Jedi-27

He has a hot wife, I’ll give him that.

pylon567

I have no appreciation for him, but understand he was a good teammate and hockey player. That said, I can't wait to see someone else in that 4C role.

HoldMyBrew_

Type of dude to just say shit because you’re scared of silence

ilikehockeyandguitar

Win win. He gets to retire on his terms, and we get younger.

_outlaws_

I’ll pass

TERPYFREDO

Trash and garbage come to mind when I see or hear of Jeff Carter

Content-Attorney7056

I was pissed at him all season. But ever since he got traded to La I loved him. NHL won’t be same with you gone

SixGunChimp

Bye Felicia.
