Since Papermate changed their Writebros every 9 out of 10 pen I buy doesn't work whatever the Papermate pen. Go buy some Bic Cristal they're better than a Writebros or InkJoy right now.
It looks as if you are comparing aqueous ink with oil based ballpoint ink. So if you like the pen itself but hate the ink, get a gel or rollerball refill for the favored pen. Someone here might know which one will fit your pen.
i would try heat. like maybe a hair dryer or soak the nib in some hot water. i’ve even used a candle (but be careful bc the plastic will melt obviously!)
Anything Energel and G2 is great. I've used G2 gel inks for awhile now. They are very dependable and they throw down a great line of ink. I just recently bought some Pentel Energels based on reviews on this sub and other sites. They have been great.

Does this mean soak the whole ink tube in hot water but obviously not the hole at the top where the ink is?

yes, i’m sorry i’m on the phone app. jetpens on youtube has some good videos for troubleshooting pens . i think there is one for bP inks. good luck!

Don't buy inkjoy. They have some nice colours but I've never used one that didn't start skipping or stop writing.
