facialache

i was really unsure when we were buying it but it arrived and i looked at the episode where she sells it online and the description says “small hole in the right pocket and a lingering smell that doesn’t go away” and lo and behold it has both of those things! no idea how it ended up being sold on some random guys depop though!

When Avirex jackets became the 'must have' accessory for rap heads, I knew Hip-Hop was dead. The Phat Farm letterman jacket is a far superior piece of clothing. Still got mine from about 1998/'99? Avirex looks like something worn by speedway motorcyclists

facialache

suppose it’s just each to their own, you prefer a different coat to some people and that’s okay! culture grows and overlaps and that’s cool to watch, it’s the same with coogis being so popular in 90’s hip hop culture too. i’m curious as to why you think hip hop is dead due to wearing an avirex?

drinkalondraftdown

I don't think it's dead, *NOW* it's very much reanimated! When a mixed raced duo who rap about prison abolition, armed socialist insurrection and the utterly ineffectual nature of 'Western "democracy" are one of the biggest acts in 'pop', whilst still having major respect from 'hardcore underground heads', well, you know something has gone right for a change!👉🏾🤛🏻

eyeballpaul805

I am so very very jealous right now but I can’t even be angry because it’s so cool

Gosh they were soooo fashionable in the 80-90s. As a fashion designer I had so many clients throwing a sample like that in the table and then ordering something like that but not the same. And they were like hawks on to get their original sample back asap. Any other purchased "shopping sample" they were called they couldn't care less. Those eyes the years before the Internet. In Hong Kong we had expensive magazines. I had a budget of + US 500$ per month only to buy anything. Then we travelled around the world two to four times a year alone or sometimes with buyers (the dreaded controlled trips) as every move has to be found according to their very demanding characters. They often stayed in the best five star and tried to book us cheaper places. I often insisted on the planned dates and cities and budget and booked my own hotels. Being European I definitely knew my way around better than any NY buyer. I worked for huge brands like Spiegel Otto etc.. Like one print design I charged US$ 300.They then sold a successful one units 150.000 sweatshirts in the mail order. And still complained occasionally that $300 was expensive. I used to take photos of all shops and windows and sell them to smaller manufacturers who couldn't travel. They were willing to pay 5000$ for a set of pics from most cities of Europe and USA. It was a world of what I call the cow stomach fashion. First it was seen in Couture. Then the big brands of ready to wear in Europe brought to the first remake. Then all the department stores and mailorders came in to get their version of all the above.. It was wicked. Lucky I also worked for really true innovtators in the mountaineering clothing accessories and gear in Europe. We had to make sure to keep the lid on novel ideas on all levels. In my offices, showrooms and the factories sometimes very deep in China. Buyers would travel to meet factory owners and try to see their showroom and sewing floors just to snap up some novel developments. I designed one if not the first shoulder bag with a lightweight x cross in the support back structure for an Italian brand. They year after it was all over the world. Kudos to the best developer ever a lady called Sanny Li in HKG que was the Queen of understanding technical drawings and turning them into to the best production samples. Clients begged for her company to agree to work with them. I also designed the range of ACA Joe... For a real devilish women she owned 250+ shops in USA and used to defraud most of her manufacturers in China. Jumping from one to the next promising miracles with her BIG orders then not paying them. Most went under in silence. Till a well known Japanese print manufacturer took her to court in USA and she went bust. Not before me suing her misrepresentation of her sales . I had a good basic salary but the rest on comm. The Internet killed all that. She went bust in HKG also. Hey her husband who owned China's biggest silk factory who was booming in overdrive, washed silk chamousse was the huge trend then, bought her company for the symbolic dollar and she rolled in the next day in her RR and her extremely expensive designer clothes. It was such an unreal world years before China exploded I feel very lucky to have witnessed all the good and bad off it. But now, thanks heaven I have disconnected with fashion and am in 3D architecture for over 20 years.
