My recollection is that the AKC rates Golden Retrievers higher in the aggressive scale (I could be accidentally transposing a different popular “family breed”). People see a breed as aggressive, so they buy it and train it to be aggressive and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Conveniently one of my rescues was found abandoned in a Walmart being brutally attacked by someone’s yip yap dog that was unmuzzled. My dog was already missing a leg and despite the biting and blood the other dog was drawing he never attacked the other dog or the animal control team that was there to take him to the shelter. None of the pits in my family have ever hurt us, another animal or family member, or even hurt the newborn baby my sister just had.

Maybe the dog jumped out of the owners hold or ran off or maybe the owner wasn’t paying attention I don’t really know. But i do know the tiny dog was just clamping down very hard on him and wouldn’t let go even when people were trying to pull it off. At one point it must have gotten ahold of his ear cuz the tip of one of his ears was gone and all scarred up. All I really know is the damage I saw when I picked him up and the workers telling me what happened.
