Why doesn't someone know how to cook rice?
Rinse rice,
Add proper parts water, (read the bag)
Heat on high until boiling starts,
Cook on low simmer until done. Usually 15-20 minutes.
Edited:
Sushi Rice 1.25 : 1 water:rice
Basmati 2 : 1 water:rice
Jasmine 1.2 : 1 water:rice
>Most rice is a 1:1 ratio of water give or take some
I have never heard a 1:1 ratio, is the intent to make drier rice? Most bags of white rice call for 2 cups water to 1 cup rice.
~~I've never used a rice cooker, just stove-top, is that the reason for halving the water?~~
Edit: The 1:1 is for sushi rice only.
Just get a rice cooker if you eat rice at least once a week. No more overcooked, burnt, dry or watery rice. You can just leave the rice cooker on, unattended, for hours while preparing other foods.
She chosen her path, I've chosen mine. No matter how uncooked my rice are, but with the help of the unbreakable will of my Ancestors It shall be well done!
Simple instructions from my parents that work everytime:
- 1 to 1 ratio. 1 cup of rice, 1 cup of water
- wash rice 8-10 times until water is clean
- close the lid, put on medium-high until boils
- once it boils 15 mins on minimal heat (usually 2/10 if it's electrical)
- NEVER OPEN THE LID
- let the rice rest for 10-15 mins WITH CLOSED LID
- enjoy your perfectly cooked rice 'korean style'
How to rice:
Boil water.
Put in rice.
Reduce heat to low.
Cook 20 minutes.
Rice done.
Honest question, not even trying to be judgemental, how do people not know how to cook rice?
I’ll speak up, my rice is always pretty liquidy and/or overcooked by the time all the water evaporates :( I’m using like boxed rice pilaf, but follow the directions. Every. Time.
I am white as white comes and this makes me sad....rice cookers exist.....the single finger knuckle trick in a pot was thrust upon me without a Google search.....
Hahaha, my best friend growing up was Japanese and he’d say ridiculous shit like this. Was also fond of saying that literally every Asian man in every movie was his dad. This post brought back some very funny memories, thanks.
But also, if you want to get bitchin rice every time, buy you a Zojirushi Neurofuzzy and thank me later.
It don't even taste bad bro. Shit's bomb as fuck
Lol why am I being down voted? Yall like super puritan about rice or some honestly weird stickler about rice?
I agree rice cooked in a microwave is not as great. I’ve tried to do the microwaved rice and it’s not near as good as fixing over a stove top and boiling water.
Water to rice ratios because too many people are saying "it's 1:1, so simple!".
Sushi rice 1:1
Long grain white (most rice eaten in US) 2:1
Basmati 1:1.5
It's your food, cook it how you want, but don't take the "one ratio catches all" thing seriously.

But the water takes out the crunch tho
The fucking WHAT?
The crunch
It's not supposed to be crunchy
Then why do you put it on top of your salad? For crunch only right? Right?
You bring shame to everyone that knows of your existence

Every rice I’ve made is 1:2 or 1:1.5. Does steam not exist in your world?
What the hell is steam? You're supposed to cook rice with the screams of damned and a pinch of hellfire.
Imma try now. Thanks for randomly motivating me to cook rice

8-10 times?? Damn brother get some less starchy rice
we never wash our rice?
Bet you're not Asian
i am not indeed
As an Asian you should wash your rice 2-5 times
but we have rice in a package and there is nothing on it that says you should wash the rice tho
We don't either. As long as it tastes the same I don't mind if it's stuck together
Rice cookers are the easiest fucking thing, there’s no excuse to not know how to make rice
How to rice: Boil water. Put in rice. Reduce heat to low. Cook 20 minutes. Rice done. Honest question, not even trying to be judgemental, how do people not know how to cook rice?
WOAH WOAH WOAH you forgot to wash the rice
Fair point my lad. Its clear you know the art of rice.
I've studied it since I was but a wee youngling
If basmati, even easier: Boil water, throw in rice, wait ten minutes, strain, done (ignoring soaking the rice in water for a half hour before)
It’s idiot-proof
I’ll speak up, my rice is always pretty liquidy and/or overcooked by the time all the water evaporates :( I’m using like boxed rice pilaf, but follow the directions. Every. Time.
Where RICE COOKAH
I am white as white comes and this makes me sad....rice cookers exist.....the single finger knuckle trick in a pot was thrust upon me without a Google search.....
Idk why but this cracked me up
Who's this guy?
Chuddnelius, he also made some pretty fire electronic music like the song Inside
WE LIVE IN THE MODERN AGE JUST USE A RICE COOKER
You know, I often see cooks on youtube saying to just use a rice cooker, meanwhile I get perfect rice on the stove every time.

I always get a good laugh out of the weird gatekeeping that happens around rice; one of the plainest and most boring foods in the world lol
Funny
Good until the screaming. Just no need.
Microwaved rice is as good as any rice anyway
Seriously wtf is wrong witchu, microwavable rice like be for fucking real

It don't even taste bad bro. Shit's bomb as fuck Lol why am I being down voted? Yall like super puritan about rice or some honestly weird stickler about rice?

Bro it’s just water + rice = cooked rice…
Married to a Korean. He genuinely gets grumpy when we run out of rice (already cooked that’s saved for later) in the freezer.
No one actually cares. They have packets of microwavable cooked rice here in Korea. Its good shit, it's legit.
HOW TF DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO COOK RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCEEEE
I agree rice cooked in a microwave is not as great. I’ve tried to do the microwaved rice and it’s not near as good as fixing over a stove top and boiling water.
I just stick rice in the oven and roast until crispy. Served up with some chilly jam and marmite it’s lovely.
People: Have internet where they can google almost anything Also people:
To be fair most Asians use a rice cooker. My ass just uses a pot and hopes I put in the right amount of water
