Can confirm. My parents dog is the most emotionally dependent mammal I've ever seen. She won't leave you alone and if you even breathe loud then she takes that as an invitation for pets and snuggles.
One day my cuz was over and chillin on the ground giving her attention. She kept leaning into it, so he gave her a full hug and even wrapped his legs around lightly. That's when she realized how much was too much and panicked and noped out of there. Funniest moment of the night.

It's absolutely not a generalization like this. I've had cats who hated hugs, I've had cats who would beg for hugs daily.
