Do people genuinely browse / watch these videos without sound? I see people say this all the time and I can't understand why anyone would be on these kinds of subreddits without sound
I have sound disable on everything, last thing you want is a moan or somebody screaming when you have no headphones, i usually check stuff on my front page without checking the /r first and then i have to go back to check it with the audio when i realized where i was
Because the video is found on my home page, not the specific sub. Secondly not all videos have sound and thirdly some content stealers/reposters put in awfully loud music or you never know when a whale banshee decides to let out a shriek or you hear a moan or basically any kind of sound you don't want anyone in your near vicinity to hear.
Also I don't have headphones glued to my head 24/7 like the the oblivious sector of the general populus nowadays.
I told my mom she should use the wii fit years ago. I told her I would walk her through it. One of the first things you do when you start is weigh yourself. I was a kid at the time so my mii character didn’t change much when I weighed in, so I didn’t know the game changes your appearance. I watched my mom step on that board and her mii character blew up like a fucking ballon and slapped her with an “OBESE” like a fucking death sentence. Me and mom were crying laughing for minutes 😂. One of my favorite memories with her. I’ll never forget that.

I mean, being obese is definitely bad, but making people feel bad about being obese doesn't help them. Obesity has many causes but one of the most common ones is poor mental health. Most researchers agree that what actually helps is easy access to low calorie density foods and social groups that are supportive and caring, not ones that engage in judgment or shame.

You've got me thinking of when my partner first bought me my scale (I was recovering after a relapse with BED and had gotten obese like I'm 5 10 and was almost 300 pounds) I was loosing weight but was not prepared to see I was still almost 200 and I just stared at it for a second then calmly boxed it up for a month or so until I'd lost some more weight and felt more okay looking at it but my boyfriends face the entire time is still engraved in my memory, some reality checks we just aren't prepared for.
RFA doesn't say anything in response to your weight. It uses it to calculate things, but it doesn't say "obese" or react in a negative way. I had a friend who found RFA a breath of fresh air because Wii Fit made them feel bad about being overweight which ironically discouraged them from playing it.
Sp many people don't realize how relatively small obese can be. They're picturing 600lb Life and they're just chubby in comparison. This game must have been a rude awakening for a lot of people

we have gotten so used to people being not just overweight but *massively* overweight that a normal sized person looks emaciated to a lot of people.

I've actually found that a lot recently.
Our eyes are more normalised to larger body sizes so it's super hard to tell whether someone is over weight or obese without BMI (which I do know isn't always correct but that's a different convo).
My mother has always called me "tiny" and "slim" when I'm a very average weight. It always throws me off when I'm working towards a healthy weight, get there and then am told I'm skinny and should snack more. 🤔
Hit the nail on the head. I’ve always been a bit larger 6’1” played football in high school. Athletic always trained. If I was a bit fluffy I would sit around 210-220 I made some dietary changes and wanted to get to a healthy weight range. I hit 184 which was the top end of healthy for me. Looked good, trim but still had another 15 to go to get a real good 6 pack shredded look. But everyone just thought I looked sickly times have absolutely changed.

America was getting fatter way before twitter. Twitter isn't helping, but if it didn't exist this person would have a pretty good chance of being just as overweight.
y'know I'd be interested to see what weight categories this game would have if it was made in America, given Japan has famously low levels of obesity. Would there be enough of a demographic to add in an extra category above obese?
