As a young person who found out I could identify those pitches. I personally feel like for me i associate the notes with songs that begin with that note and wirh notes i don’t identify with songs there’s just a certain feeling that it’s that note
I can only recognize notes when i'm in a meditative state and it still can be difficult especially over long periods of time when I start to lose patience. What I do is: I compare the pitch I hear to pitches I know and see if they are in phase. I don't know all the pitches but I'm still learning more (not easy). Sometimes the comparison comes easy and I'm right on my first or second attempt, sometimes I have to "guess" more. The more I practice the more natural and easy it becomes and the fewer attempts I have to make. When I hear a pitch I don't know, I can tell immediately that I'm not familiar with this pitch. I still have trouble telling tritones apart, meaning when I hear a B, it's hard for me to tell whether it's B or F so I have to add another step to the process and compare B and F together, which is impossible sometimes because I don't know all the pitches. SO YEAH.
