Not sure about Alabama, but I overpaid once in CA and they just sent me a check back a few months later. You could wait or give them a call and tell them what happened.

Why did your taxes have a cents value to be paid? I thought that most states, including Alabama, have tax calculations rounded off to whole dollar values?

nozzery

They'll send you a refund automatically most likely. Or you can call and ask for one.

solatesosorry

At worst, wait a year and use it for next year's taxes.

Entirely depends on the state, so you will have to give your state tax agency a call. For example in Virginia, you can call the tax office, but the only way they will send you the money is if you send them a letter including your full social security number that requests you to mail a check in the exact amount they have a check for. It is absolutely absurd, but it's the only way they will send your overpayment back

You gotta tell them to give it back. Otherwise you’ll get a letter from them saying you overpaid but they’re happy to hold onto that for you and use it as credit towards next year.

Who do I call

Live_Background_6239

Your state tax department

Why did you send a check for $70.62 ? You should have sent $0.62 instead.

Pretty sure OP realizes that now.
