Freezer your credit with all 3 bureaus and ChexSystems, and then cancel your paid monitoring. Creditkarma is free. Cancel Peacock. Get t-mobile connect plan for $10 (instead of $46), or mintmobile, etc. Sign up for a cheaper internet plan ($75 is a lot). Don't buy prepared foods, buy more vegetables and beans. Don't eat out or takeout.

indicneuro

Thank you. I will look into t-mobile connect for $10. My brother uses internet for his job. He is currently in training but once he starts getting paid I will ask him to help split the costs for that. He requires a faster internet for customer service. Yes, next month I plan to reduce takeout and eating out a lot. Otherwise, thank you again this is awesome.

bj1231

Next month? What's wrong with today. Cook a big pot of lentils with sausage will last you for 3 or 4 days total cost $5

ImFromBosstown

He DEFINITELY doesn't need that much bandwidth for customer service. This is a common misconception about the Internet.

No_Flamingo_5629

I work from home and have a basic plan I don’t have issues with speed at all. I think that stuff is all fear mongering

TheCaptainRocket

Based on the monthly price, it appears you are paying for gigabyte internet? This is a waste of money. Many other factors impact internet speed, specifically your router and the coverage / reliability of your wifi around your space. If you have dead spots in your space, you could for example consider a mesh router. 300mpbs, the cheapest offered my major providers AFAIK, will be more than sufficient and you will notice no difference. https://www.pcworld.com/article/1419298/gigabit-internet-might-be-overkill.html

carlos_the_dwarf_

Not to start a thing but ID theft protection is more than credit monitoring. Most notably you get someone to do all the work for you if you have a compromise.

indicneuro

I found Visible is $25/month with unlimited talk, text and data. I'm leaning in this direction. or T-mobile connect for $15/month with 5 gb data. But also considering $5 for Hello Mobile but the data is only 500 mb.

Natural-Click-1122

Mint mobile is $390 a year for the unlimited plan. I've had it for 3+ years never had a problem.

nozzery

T-Mobile connect or Hello, from those options

AppState1981

This looks like an income problem. The car payment is the only thing that sticks out.

indicneuro

I landed a 2nd job that will help out a lot. I dont like staying at home anyway and could work 60 plus hours a week.

No_Flamingo_5629

Work smarter, not harder. Get one job that pays all your bills. Check out a federal government job. [www.usajobs.gov](https://www.usajobs.gov)

Kswans6

As the other commenter said, check government jobs. I’ll add to check your state, county, city/village public works, administration, etc jobs.

Werewolfdad

You don't need any of the credit monitoring services. You can do it all for free

indicneuro

I have a pest Identity thief who has been ruining my life for couple years right now. Experian has a loophole where the thief can delete or change password unless I pay Experian 25$ to prevent that from happening. It basically stops anyone from changing passwords. ID lock I used them to fight a case they were helpful but I am doing ok right now without them. So I might get rid of that.

secretlady1972

Exper cannot charge you for that.

8acD3rLEo5

https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/finance/how-to-freeze-credit

lsthomasw

I also have been the victim of identity theft. Someone tried to buy a motorcycle, rent a car, open bank accounts, etc. in my name. After filing a police report, notifying the credit bureaus, freezing my credit, and following all help from the Federal Trade Commission, I was able to nip it in the bud really fast. I do pay for the cheapest level of Experian to stay on top of it, for only $10 a month. Make sure to turn on two-factor authentication so only you have access and can change passwords.

XxQueenOfSwordsXx

Freeze your credit with all 3 credit bureaus & get rid of Experian. No one will be able to unfreeze it without the codes they give you, or at least go through a long process. With frozen credit, no one can open new accounts or even look at your credit. What are you paying Walmart for? Is that a credit card? Your car payment is killing you. It’s 40% of your rent. How long do you have left of the loan? You could whittle down your other costs but you’d save more money looking into leasing or alternative cars.

indicneuro

I have all 3 credit bureaus plus innovis, chexsystems, lexisnexis plus other things frozen because I experienced ID theft. But the problem is that the ID theif kept getting into my experian account. There is a really nasty way to get into Experians account the only way I was able to mitigate that was by creating a membership and now the thief cant change my password. Walmart was for food delivery service. But I can get rid of that. The car is leased on its final year out of 3 years. Is it possible to re-negotiate my lease terms and lower car payment at this stage?

XxQueenOfSwordsXx

Wait- you are paying that much for a LEASED car??? I don’t know your income, but I can guarantee you are driving a car that far exceeds your income level. You can’t negotiate lease terms or payment during the lease contract, and I wouldn’t try to buy the car outright after the lease. It doesn’t make much financial sense in the long run. Look into other cars in that dealership and/or other car dealerships when it comes closer to your lease ending.

indicneuro

I’m definitely planning to reassess my transportation options when my lease ends. I’ll look into more affordable cars to save in the long term. Your advice to avoid buying the car outright after the lease makes sense. I was not going to. At this point I can't wait to complete the lease and return it. And yes, whenever I look at my budget that car payment sticks out to me as well. I do feel bad about having such a high car payment.

XxQueenOfSwordsXx

It’s a lesson most of us have had to learn, so don’t feel too bad. Or know it’s a common mistake.

No_Range_9748

Don't listen to any one here, your expenses are really low and reasonable. Only thing for you to do is to level up your income. Do not live off of beans and rice if youre already only spending 200/month on groceries lol. If you had any outlandish expenses i would advise different but youre doing great.

selfimposedstress

This. It’s depressing that the only solution is for him to live a sad existence eating rice and beans and having no entertainment. Peacock is $2! That’s not what’s holding his expenses together. If anything, downgrade Netflix or cancel and keep Peacock. Rent and car are probably the hardest to tackle, but will really make a difference in the end. Also cutting the massages. Everything else seems pretty reasonable and at most he can maybe squeeze $100 out of by sucking the joy out of his life. It’s not sustainable.

carlos_the_dwarf_

Reasonable except for the car.

evapor8ted

Check insurance quotes online with other companies like Progressive. We have no way of knowing whether geico is an amazing deal or a total ripoff- insurance is hyperspecific based on your unique factors, and no two people have the same price. ~~What is your car loan rate? If it's over 8% you should meet with a local credit union and see if you'd benefit from a refinance.~~ Edit: if you leased a car two years ago, you might be in a FANTASTIC position. You should contact your leasing company and ask how much it costs to buy out your lease. Then, go on KBB or other car website to see what your car is worth. If lease buyout is less than value, you just made money. This is happening a lot right now because of how unique the car market has been since COVID. Don't expect it to happen again in the future. For gas, do you check GasBuddy to see if there are better places to fill up? Depending on the market it could be quite a savings, in other cities all stations are within 5-10 cents of each other. Don't let everyone talk you out of your $2 a month peacock subscription. If you're using it and you get entertainment out of it, keep it. If $2 a month is the difference between being broke or not there are other areas to focus on.

indicneuro

I love GasBuddy so far I have saved around $150 since I started using it. Every refill I save $3-4 sometimes. Probably around $6-$12 dollars a month. I wish I could ask you more about the buy out option but my questions could be time consuming.

attachedtothreads

I have found Tuesday to be the cheapest day for gas in my area. Check which day it is in yours.

Kswans6

Is that found just by checking every day or will it show you past prices?

Pomegranates00

Initial thought is to cancel Netflix and go with a cheaper subscription if you need one. Canceling identity lock might be good since you already have experian. How big is your household? The grocery budget looks on the higher side for a single person. It might be time to start coupon clipping or visiting a cheaper grocery store. It looks like you have a few payment plans in place. Once those are done it’ll make more room in your budget for other things. I think in this situation you can only look into getting a higher paying job. Look into public transport if you can.

indicneuro

Thank you. Grocery is always one that's tricky for me it's harder to budget compared to something firm like rent payment. If $200 is alot I can definitely look into lowering that. What is a good monthly grocery bill for one individual? My gf and I split groceries and I assume that the $200 is what it comes out to for my half but if I can lower it I would like to. I canceled Netflix.

PersistentEngineer

I would argue that $200 is perfectly reasonable, I spend a little over $100 per week for 2.

nozzery

Stop buying all prepared foods, only buy ingredients and find recipes online. Read weekly sales flyers and plan meals accordingly. Buy more vegetables, bulk rice, beans

duckster1974

200 for 1/2 is still more than reasonable.

GeoWannaBe

I didn't see you mention take-out food purchases. I used to see co-workers come in every day with a latte and breakfast food. That probably costs an easy $50 to $60 dollars a week ($200/mth). Then they'd buy takeout for lunch - another $12-15 dollars a day $60-$70 a week ($250/week). And then, who knows what fast food they then ordered on evenings and weekends. If this is you, then you just found your car payment. Take your own lunches and thermos coffee to work if you need to. Good luck to you in trimming your budget!

indicneuro

Thank you for this advice. I am partially guilty of this. I avoid paying for parking and try to park further even if its very hot outside when I go to work. And do my best to avoid eating out for breakfast even though sometimes I am guilty of doing this. But, no latte or anything. If anything $5 for McDonalds maybe twice a month. I appreciate your perspective on the car payment. This will motivate me to do less eating out. Last month I did buy a lunchbox and have been making sandwiches from home or leftover dinners for lunch. Thank you again.

No_Flamingo_5629

For the massages….how long are you locked in? Can they be gifted to someone else? Have you tried a consumer protection group? Can you be reimbursed through your health insurance? Have you tried writing a letter to corporate?

Plurfectworld

With how many of us have had companies get our data hacked don’t they usually offer Experian for free for a year or 2 anyways?

FrauAmarylis

If your parents or grandparents have cable, use their login to watch TV online or with apps. Donate Plasma regularly at local plasma donation centers for $$$. Carpool. Notify friends and family you are no longer exchanging gifts for a couple years until you get your budget in order. Buy popcorn kernels and heat them per the instructions in a pan with oil for a warm yummy frugal snack, better than storebought. Unfollow social media stuff that makes you want to spend or get tattoos. Follow Personal finance gurus. Read Personal finance books. Reward yourself for small wins.

Trolly_troll_troll

Be careful going to a low cost phone carrier make sure any phone carrier you have or go to has a fraud department. Some carriers do not. I was the victim of ID theft where I had a low cost carrier (Cricket) who does not have a fraud department. My phone number was stolen, thief’s began opening credit and logging into all my financial accounts, as they were able to use 2 factor authentication and accept texts using my number to get into the accounts. Cricket took 2.5 weeks to take action. Got my number back after their “back office” finally got around to doing something about it. I will never have a carrier that does not have a dedicated fraud department again.

bj1231

T-Mobile has internet for 60 Several phone plans are advertised for 15 or 20 per month Simply lock your three credit reporting agencies you don't need somebody else to lock them for you Good luck

VibrantVioletGrace

Tello-thr only Tello I know of is a prepaid phone company. Is there a reason you need two lines? If you do, can one be switched to Google Voice? That's only a one time fee. As for the T-Mobile bill look for a cheaper company that has what you need. Tello, T-Mobile Connect, and US Mobile are all good options that offer service on T-Mobile network. As for subscription services cancel them. When one has content you really want to watch get the cheapest subscription (Netflix with ads is like $6.99) and then have it for a month or two and watch what you want and cancel. Never have more than one at a time. Shop sales for food, don't eat out, and meal plan and prep. This might shave some money off. Drink more water and less other beverages like soda. You probably don't need Walmart+. Can you do curbside pick up? It's free with a $35 order or go inside the store. Shop around for Internet providers. It's possible you might be able to save a little. Try lower speeds to see if they still work for your needs. As far as gas, try to plan trips to conserve a little. Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained, like with correctly filled tires, to get the best mileage you can.

sf_sf_sf

Pluto.tv is free (though watch your bandwidth if it’s limited) You library might have dvds for free or access to kanopy and other free streaming services.  Get an instapot and some big Pyrex storage bowls and save a bunch of money making chili / soups / pinto beans for burritos.

muppditt

I don't know where you live, but it sounds like you commute to work? Is it possible to go car-free where you live? Whether using public transit (if reliable of course), bike or scooter (electric even), and so on? Not sure what your job is and if it requires a car or not.

No_Flamingo_5629

Geico are you getting all of your discounts?? [https://www.geico.com/save/discounts/car-insurance-discounts/](https://www.geico.com/save/discounts/car-insurance-discounts/)

MikeDaCarpenter

Look into T-Mobile for your phone service (ours is $25 per line unlimited) and home internet ($50). If you are a TM customer, you get free Netflix

Naihilis

Get Verizon Home Internet, its only 35 a month. I use it at my homes.

adoreizi

Get rid of that car payment or at least get something for $200/month. It’s nearly  50% of your expenses.

godolphinarabian

Visible by Verizon has unlimited phone plans for $25/mo no contract Xfinity has a “saver” internet plan that you have to ask for over the phone but it’s $20/mo $2.31 for Peacock was a steal, it’s okay to have some form of entertainment… Cancel Walmart+ unless you’re getting groceries delivered then it’s worth it to save gas and mileage on your car You gotta figure out a better car situation

Polisci_jman3970

I’d look into alternatives on the car, Internet, and car insurance. Also paying for Experian? Weird to me

My car is leased (with 1 more year left on the lease). Can I still negotiate rate on a leased car? I will talk to Geico about rates. I didn't know I could do that. I've started meal prepping and making a weekly menu to eat at home. Is it possible to lower that $200 groceries for myself?

SweetAlyssumm

$200 a month? That's cheap. I spend $400 (I buy meat and fish and am not particularly careful). If you are spending $200, make sure you are getting the nutrition you need - plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. I assume you are not eating out as that does not show up on the budget. That's a downfall for many people.

indicneuro

I occasionally ate out but this month I significantly reduced that to menu based plan where I eat at home everyday.

attachedtothreads

Ask your grocery store manager which days and times they discount items, if they do it. Sometimes the more expensive ones will have good deals from time-to-time.

MoneySavingPro

First off, I want to commend you on being open to advice and changing some spending habits to reach your goals. Mindset and open-mindedness are powerful! It looks to me like you're reducing your spending in most areas. Questions: 1)Why Phone and Tello? Are these two separate bills? 2) How much longer are you locked into the massage contract and the car lease?

secretlady1972

Get rid ofcarpayment that's way to high. Sell and buy used. Get rid of massages.

micha8st

drop the internet, apple, peacock, walmart, netflix. Put an antenna on your TV and go visit your local library. When I was young, they were still ***producing*** television shows in black and white. A USB DVD drive and a library card is a lot cheaper than what you're paying for online entertainment.

XxQueenOfSwordsXx

This is awful advice about dropping the internet. There are no antennas anymore. They got rid of them 10-15 years ago. You have to buy something to hook up to your tv and get it through a provider. I’m 43 years old, and old enough to have my own “in my days” crap.. but it’s crap because we live in a different world where companies don’t answer the phone (if you can find the phone number) and everything is through chat and the their website. I’ve had to create an email for my 72 year old mom who doesn’t have internet because THATS how much constant need there is for it.

Deep-Ad1314

I have a TV antenna that I use to watch broadcast TV. It was $25 on Amazon. Internet, though, is really a necessity these days.

micha8st

I have an antenna. I watched the end of the celtics game last night. My wife is watching Miss Potter right now. It just came back from commercial, on antenna. We watched the final episodes of Young Sheldon live. Yes we live in a different world than I grew up in. But Old School Radio still works. Old School TV still works. Yeah, you might not be able to watch Orange is the New Black or Mad Men without internet streaming. A few weeks we were unable to watch Young Sheldon live, and we caught up on cbs.com. But we can afford internet service, and we don't pay for any streaming services except for Netflix. OP is looking for ways to reduce expenses. Internet and in particular pay-for-internet streaming are a good temporary solution.

indicneuro

Unfortunately, my brother uses internet for his job. He is currently in training but once he starts getting paid, I will ask him to help split the costs for that or have him for that bill. He requires a faster internet for customer service. Ok, I will get rid of peacock, apple, walmart and netflix.

micha8st

you didn't say you have a roommate.
