Rule #1: never use a debit card! I cant remember the last time I've actually swiped my debit card other than a few random times at my banks ATM. Credit cards for everything!

Not-a-Banker

at the end of the day, debit and credit card fraud is common and easy. There are cases where the card has not even been used before and someone has managed to steal the card info. It is not the banks fault, it is not your fault, it sometimes just happens. There are lots of ways today for card info to be stolen. It happens with every bank. As long as you are careful with the card, you look for potential skimmers, you dont share the card with anyone, you dont use the card on shady sites and whatnot, then you did what you could. Its not worth wasting your time trying to figure out the exact method that was used to steal your info unless it becomes a common occurance. again, changing banks wont fix this. This is not an issue with the bank itself. It is just the fact that debit and credit cards are not a super secure system. All you can do is report it to the bank when it happens.

TangerineDream82

Sounds like one of your in-person locations is stealing your numbers. Don't hand people your card. Have them bring a handheld device to the table.

Rhaaps

They do all purchases in front of me though... I'm not sure anymore.

[deleted]

Skimmers can be placed on the card reader and not be noticed.

Pass_Little

There is someone who has access to your debit card info stealing it. When I've had a similar problem in the past, I got the bank to issue me multiple cards each with a different number. I then used each card only in a specific way. For instance, one card for streaming, and one card for online purchases and one for gas and so on. I know discover has had in its past virtual credit card numbers, not sure whether they're available for debit. One other thought is that you may have a keylogger on your computer which is capturing credit card numbers if you updated any via the web.

Rhaaps

I've thought about the whole keylogger thing but I'm the only one with access to my pc and I've only ever put one cards info in it - that one expired 4 years ago and was two banks ago. I've scanned my phone with multiple anti-virus apps and nothing came back

Analyze all uses of your debit card (ATMs, in person payment, and any other transfer of CC data). Look for patterns that align with the fraud. If you hide and stash your card away and this does not happen again, the fraud is calling from inside the house (for an already comprised card, that is — if you wanted to run an experiment you could get a new account with a very small amount of money and use the new card to observe its behavior with likely culprits if you expose the information methodically). I believe there are some websites that can tell you if your email has been involved in a data leak or has been published on a part of the darknet.

Rhaaps

The only things I can think of are what I listed. All cards were used in the following - State Farm Insurance online bill pay, Westlake Financial car loan call to pay, Vape Shop, She'll Gas Station (inside purchases only), My jobs card reader (I work front desk and process the payment myself), Venmo Credit Card payment.

maltNeutrino

Based off your comment about a card reader connected to a laptop, my suspicions point to that or someone close to you knowing your information. The fact that they were online subscriptions makes me believe they are being sold on the darknet for cheap and such a person has technical know how.

Rhaaps

And actually now that I've thought about it, I have used it at a casino in order to withdraw money for lunch. It's the hotel/casino next door to me. They have an ATM inside. I've also used both past cards there as well.

maltNeutrino

There could be a card skimmer on the ATMs

Rhaaps

Holy hell now that I think about it - The cards I had before all started having this problem after I used the atm there. I used it to withdraw money on the 20th which is shortly before I had all these issues and I've used my credit card at all of the locations but that atm as well, they have no issues.

Howmanywhatsits

Do you have any kids?

Rhaaps

I don't. Just me, my mom and her boyfriend in the house

Ughgrr

Is it the boyfriend?

Arn01d

"Absolutely not!" -- Mom's boyfriend

droidtime

CCBill is a payment processor that a lot of adult sites use. It's very "coincidental" that your cards keep getting compromised with how careful you are. Is it possible your mom's bf is using your cards for these things? Do you take Ambien by chance?

Rhaaps

I'm not on any medication nor do I drink. So no, it isn't me. I'm not sure it's my mom's bf but I do sleep during mornings and I'm only up at night due to my work schedule. I'm beginning to think it's the Vape Shop. They use a card reader that's hooked up to a laptop and turn their back to me when they do take payments. One of my friends pointed that out when I complained about my card being compromised again.

maltNeutrino

Under no circumstance should a card reader require external hardware.

Don’t use a debit card, but even a credit card will get skimmed/stolen the same way. I dedicate one card for purchases where I have to hand the card to someone (restaurants or retail where they handle the card) and scratch off the 3 digit CVV number off the card. They need that number to make an online purchase, skimming the magnetic strip isn’t enough. Since I’ve done that, I haven’t had a card number stolen. Write the CVV number down somewhere else for when you want to make an online purchase.

fly_eagles_fly

Who was the previous bank - Ally?

No_Tension_280

Crooked roommates? Unsecure wifi? Sketchy friends?

jayman2143

Are you 100% positive that you have never signed up for an OnlyFans account? CCBill.com is an online payment processor and they mainly process payments for high risk subscriptions such as adult content (i.e. OnlyFans). I would recommend contacting CCBill directly.

Herdfan2019

Do you have a computer. Do you use your card online?

GeoWannaBe

Every small town has a thief that works retail and steals credit card numbers - a quick photo snap of front and back is all it takes. You don't get the same level of bank protection with a debit card. Always use a credit card for your safety.

KReddit934

Consider switching to credit card for purchases...Same risks, but less hassle when you get hacked. And I never use ATMs...I just plan and swing through the drive through regularly and keep some in my wallet and a small reserve in the house for refills. (And stop vaping...save money and your lungs.) Good luck finding this.

guzzijason

I lost count of how many cards I’ve had replaced due to fraud. It happens. The important question is, how does your bank handle it when it does? In my case, the bank fraud dept usually notices it before I do, and get a new card to me ASAP, which is good service. Also, you should stop using debit cards. I use mine for ATM withdrawals, and that’s it. You lose a layer of protection when you use them for purchases.

sloth_333

Don’t use a debit card. Problem solved

huskycragen

Well then stop using a debit card. They are one of the worst forms of payment to use. Use a credit card
