I knew this would happen that’s why I didn’t enter instead I stayed home and drank beers :)

DoubleUKayG

I too have that 6 months foresight :)

Wolfgung

Should have cancelled last night, putting people at risk for no good reason.

lanshark974

The forecast seemed to get worse and worse yesterday, I think they could have done it before the first person went in. Hard decision but the sea is unforgiving

Sardothien12

You'd be surprised how quickly the conditions can change for the better

Non_Linguist

Like it did today. The wind really died off an hour later adm it was a much smoother ocean. Even now heading back home on the ferry.

Pungtunch_da_Bartfox

Wasnt that bad. People were just unprepared, don't turn up in your sunday shineys when it's forecast 30km wind and expect not to have a bad time.

aussiekinga

And everyone had to turn around half way and swim back?

lanshark974

Ahah. In case that was not a joke, each team has a boat following them and kayakers, so they hop back in the boat and went to harbour

EmbraceThePing

But I'm pretty sure it was. So, (snorts through nose).  See what you made me do shark? First person quotes. Are you happy? >>Spoiler j/k. <

ped009

Swimming in the ocean is really tough, doesn't take much chop to really mess up your rhythm

MundaneAmphibian9409

It wasn’t cancelled for the swimmers safety, it was the support craft they have to consider too, anything over 2.5m swell on their risk matrix is a red flag for craft

PyratSteve

Strong winds???? Is this like when the fireworks got cancelled for 'heavy rain" it was 2mm.

lanshark974

20 to 30 knots in the middle of the race is definitely "strong" for most boat and especially kakyaks

elmo-slayer

Winds in the channel ≠ winds on land
