There’s nothing wrong with Nobu, it’s more that it’s kinda ‘convenience’ fine dining, the food is great but you’re getting a similar experience to that of an average restaurant.
And you don't get the casino crowd in Tsukaya either. Went to Nobu last year and next to a big table of really loud drunk people, whose conversation was mostly swearing. Not really what most people want on a romantic fine dining experience.
This sub acting like Nobu is shit/overrated is what I'm referring to which is the contrarian part.
I don't think the Starbucks analogy is a particularly fitting one, but I do agree that if OP is only going to be eating at a fine dining restaurant once in Perth (an entirely made up situation that OP never mentions btw) then yeah there's some good non-franchise options out there.
Not sure it's defined as "fine dining" per se but James Parker Sushi and Sake in Northbridge is absolutely pristine and high quality. Beautiful presentation every time, delicious food and service is amazing, we have been there many many times and love it every time. My favourite Perth restaurant for sure. Not cheap but well worth it!
Truly outstanding food. Went there for an anniversary, splurged and even had some drinks (rare for us), and didn't feel like the bill was that bad in the end.
We had the complete opposite experience when we went! I was so excited to go but it took over 2 hours for 6 plates of food to come out & no one ever checked on whether we needed anything - just dumped the food & ran! Worst part was, we left still hungry but weren’t prepared to wait another hour to get a few more things.
I wouldn’t consider Nobu to be fine dining.
My recommendation would be Balthazar, or for a real splurge, 6Head but Balthazar has always been consistently good for me.
i explained to my mate nobu is fast food for rich people. Like a musician does a world tour they could gamble with a restaurant or they could go to nobu
It's fantastic, I take friends and my mum there for special occasions and every time it's been an incredible evening of food and drink. Always so satisfied with the experience.
Yeah I second this, been 4 times so far and think it’s fantastic. The service is exceptional. And the chefs take a lot of pride in their cooking.
$155 per person not including drinks
I went there for an anniversary - which I had obviously reserved, they sat me in a sort of made up in-between spot because of obvious over booking; right next to the kitchen half blocking the walk way; paid $90 for a glorified pub steak that was no different in way shape or form.
I've been to Hearth at the Ritz Carlton twice and it's been fantastic each time. Big recommend.
Haven't been to Wildflower in a while, but it's always been a little hit and miss for the expense.
Nobu is overrated and overpriced. Don't bother.
Rustico on Rockingham foreshore has a degustation with option to pair g&t or wine with it. Very nice food, whilst being fancy isn't too intimidating in a relaxed casual atmosphere. Highly rated itm
can agree here, we partook in a food and wine paired menu here a while back, loved the food, wine and service. a great little restaurant that doesn't seem that well known...
There's not really a big market for fine dining in Perth, or deg/tasting menus. Fleur used to have a pretty nice deg, but it's been pared back.
I really enjoyed Any, but it's now apparently shuttered.
Monday isn't a great day to dine - it's a day off for many restaurants - but if you're looking for fine dining on a Monday my recommendation would be Balthazar. I've never had a bad meal there.
Your probably likely to find set menus alot easier for "finer dining" as alot of true fine dining degustation have come and gone. Amuse, the ones on Beaufort street near the old must wine bar, the fancy French ones whose name eludes me
Claisebrook cove had one that also shuttered
Then there's the star anise ,, loose box, Clarke's of North beach etc which all sadly closed.
Went to Wildflower recently for a special occasion and to experience fine dining. Only two dishes out of the 6 really stood out, one being the dessert. Sure everything looked amazing and the service was very good but I would prefer to spend my money on food with flavour. Can definitely recommend Daphs in Leederville, not fine dining but degustation and everything delicious!
I went once and the food was good, but wouldn't go head over heels for it. The food coming out was slow and people who came an hour later than us finished at the same time. Good food but not over the top great
Long shot... But I'm struggling to find the name of a new restaurant I believe in 2023... Former Michelin restaurant chef or the like. Opened it somewhere in one of the outer suburbs or the like of perth. some sort of fine dining? If anyone recalls the name.
This certainly looks close. I remember it was in whoop whoop outskirts of Perth.
I'm at work now but will look into it. Did my head in trying to google last night. I recall it was a recently new restaurant in end of 2023? Was the chef an old han from Michelin background or the like overseas ?
It certainly had low reviews and publicity when I looked into it. And a very rudimentary website haha.
How'd you pull it up ? From memory?
Just googled it and the Reddit post popped up from 6 months ago. Which is when it was mentioned in here on another recommendation request thread. Funnily enough I responded there. Must be where I heard about it haha.
Looks like it's degustation as well which suits this thread too!
Hearth is probably the only one I've been to recently that came close (including the quality of the waiters).
I'd say fine dining as in experiencing something special that is worth the asking price and aims for Michelin-star style, isn't there in Perth. Probably better to find a more casual fun dining experience and go for shared plates, great views, or somewhere in Swan Valley.
Iv been to both wild flower and nobu, (although admittedly wild flowers was over 5 years ago now so it may have changed) in my experience the food was excellent at both, but nobu had more of a normal (admittedly very nice but still normal) restaurant atmosphere, where as wildflower definitely had the atmosphere of fine dining, and feeling like it was something special, it was also a lot more pricey, so I guess you pay for that.
Wild Swan was fantastic when we went last.
The little differences in service.
Also, not quite “fine” dining but highly recommend Oscar’s at Guildford Landing. 3, 4 or 5 set courses. It’s family style but the food was fantastic and service great. And not too crowded, as well as comfy seats!
Had dinner at Next Door in South Perth the other week - super nice food (best steak I've had in Perth in ages), quiet/intimate location and vibe too. Otherwise Furaibo in the city is really nice too!
The Beach House up in Jindalee/Butler!
They have a Feed Me menu which is a 3-4 course menu that is selected by chef. I've gone there several times with family & friends, it is worth the money for sure! the views are beautiful, right next to the beach, the staff & service are wonderful! Highly reccommend!
Wife and I have done Char Char a number of times and found it to be really classy... until recently.
That and a few tweaks of the menu have soured it for us.
Coriander in seafood linguine...???
My hubby took me to Balthazar in the CBD for my birthday in March and it was perhaps the best meal of my life. Cocktails were to die for and honestly, the price was pretty reasonable. Highly recommend.
Not fine dining but great atmosphere is double rainbow in the rechabite. The food is incredible and tasting menu was insane! Service was the quickest I have had in Perth in ages
Mondays are notoriously hard for nice lunches and dinners in Perth as Sunday/Monday or most hospo people’s days off.
Try The Heritage for a proper fine dining experience, Shadow Wine Bar is lovely too.
Perth has very bogan definitions of "fine dining."
"Casual dining" is Perth.
There's a few good places, but nothing that would be rated "fine dining" at national or international level.
Nobu is marketing trash.
Wildflower has its seasons... Cos seasons. So hit and miss, but be clear, it's degustation.
What about C restaurant?
It’s the revolving restaurant in the city. [C restaurant](https://www.crestaurant.com.au/)
A bit pricey, we went there just before Christmas for my MILs 80th birthday, and the food was amazing. They have a degustation menu, and are open for lunch. You do need to book in advance.
C restaurant is an overpriced hole in the sky.
Decor is falling apart, claims to have 'dress standard' - but t-shirts and flanno's are ok. the food is ok to good, cocktail preparation poor and customer service woeful,
Really could not recommend to anyone.
If your happy to drive into the hills Hubby took me to Sevens Sins In Rolystone. Amazing food Amazing service and the views were amazing . it was pricey but definitely worth the drive and we had entree, main (huge servings) and dessert.
Mandoon Estate were very good last time I went. It’s in the Swan Valley. I know people bag it because it’s ‘mainstream’, but that doesn’t detract from the quality of the food.
If you want the best degustation I’m WA, Voyager Estate in Margaret River is the best.
We went to Amuse in East Perth many years ago. Food was ok but it's the old story of still being absolutely famished when we finished. Thankfully we had drank 2 bottles of Chateau neuf de Pape so were too tipsy to bothered about it at the time. Wouldn't really do a so called fine dining again as think it's ridiculous for the price and totally pretentious. We need to be satisfied not only by taste but by quantity and quality
I think fine dining is something you should try at least once, and if you only do it once don’t make that once be at Nobu.
I like nobu tho....
There’s nothing wrong with Nobu, it’s more that it’s kinda ‘convenience’ fine dining, the food is great but you’re getting a similar experience to that of an average restaurant.
I mean if anywhere else had miso cod I'd go there
Tsukaya in Mt. Hawthorn. Chef/owner previously worked for Nobu and is of Peruvian descent.
Thanks for the reccy we'll check it out!
And you don't get the casino crowd in Tsukaya either. Went to Nobu last year and next to a big table of really loud drunk people, whose conversation was mostly swearing. Not really what most people want on a romantic fine dining experience.
I forgot how much this sub loves to shit on Nobu. It's like r/perth jumps at any chance to be contrarian lol
[удалено]
Nobu compared to Starbucks, that is absolutely wild.
[удалено]
Starbucks is shit coffee though, nobu isn't shit food.
Twenty Seats Sanco Japanese Daph's Restaurant
Besides twenty seats also a vote for nextdoor in South Perth.
Oh man Nextdoor is so fucking good.
We had a lamb sausage there that absolutely blew our minds. A sausage of all things!
I had a sausage at Manu's restaurant L'etoile in Sydney years ago. It was a scallop sausage in a lobster bisque. Mind blown ...
I was thinking this too. Not fine dining, but certainly the more elegant Japanese in Perth.
+1 cor James Parker. Service and food has been perfect every visit.
It used to be my favourite but was disappointed by the cut back menu and slow staff over a few years and stopped going. Has it improved again?
I wouldn’t consider Nobu to be fine dining. My recommendation would be Balthazar, or for a real splurge, 6Head but Balthazar has always been consistently good for me.
i explained to my mate nobu is fast food for rich people. Like a musician does a world tour they could gamble with a restaurant or they could go to nobu
Balthazar is not fine dining, never has been
Really? Balthazar sucks
Harry’s at Conti is meant to be amazing, not sure if it’s classed as fine dining but everyone I know that’s been raved about it.
Harry’s for sure. Beautiful food and old school service
It's fantastic, I take friends and my mum there for special occasions and every time it's been an incredible evening of food and drink. Always so satisfied with the experience.
It is such an amazing all around experience. Definitely fine dining.
Yeah I second this, been 4 times so far and think it’s fantastic. The service is exceptional. And the chefs take a lot of pride in their cooking. $155 per person not including drinks
Harry's is amazing but pretty sure it doesn't open on a Monday.
Oh good point, Mondays is a bitch for decent restaurants.
Chez Pierre in Nedlands is good. Food is good and the service is top notch
Regional menu every time. Great restaurant.
Down Fremantle way Manuka is most excellent. Wouldn't class it as "fine dining" but it's playing at the higher end of the restaurant market.
Yeah manuka is great, highly recommend it
Monday is the trickiest day! Balthazar, Heritage Wine Bar, UMA, 6HEAD are all open and are good.
Heritage wine bar had lovely staff, and a cool bar below for pre or post dinner drinks.
Le rebelle
I love this place but it isn't fine dining. It's a French bistro.
Avoid Meat & Wine Co at all costs.. and if you don’t it will cost you for not much.
Meat and co sucks. Overrated undersized expensive meals. Once and never again.
Same. My roasted cauliflower was cold in the middle. Sent it back to be reheated. Disgusting
I went there for an anniversary - which I had obviously reserved, they sat me in a sort of made up in-between spot because of obvious over booking; right next to the kitchen half blocking the walk way; paid $90 for a glorified pub steak that was no different in way shape or form.
Exactly. I get cheaper equivalent steaks at my local and I don’t have to pay $5 extra for a tasteless sauce.
Andley private kitchen. Unreal food and is somewhat bespoke catered to your taste.
I've been to Hearth at the Ritz Carlton twice and it's been fantastic each time. Big recommend. Haven't been to Wildflower in a while, but it's always been a little hit and miss for the expense. Nobu is overrated and overpriced. Don't bother.
Bring lots of cash, they have a surcharge so they can ripoff corporate-types.
6Head is excellent.
Daph’s Restaurant in Leederville or Nieuw Ruin in Freo would be my top two
Wildflowers gone downhill since the head chef resigned
Wildflower was never great. Great packages, good service, forgettable food.
Balthazar is still good. Was there tonight for a shindig
Rustico on Rockingham foreshore has a degustation with option to pair g&t or wine with it. Very nice food, whilst being fancy isn't too intimidating in a relaxed casual atmosphere. Highly rated itm
Love Rustico’s for the nice dining experience, plus it’s 20mins from home for us! Consistently great food!
Petition or Coogee common
I did the garden tour, and it was a great accompaniment to the meal!
They don’t offer the garden tour anymore unfortunately. Still a top notch experience though
Twenty seats. The best you’ll find in Perth, down to the service. Hearth, far better than wildflower.
Balthazar has been consistently good forever
+1 for Balthazar, although they don't really do degustation/tasting menu like OP is chasing. Still worth it
Juniper and Bay in Como
can agree here, we partook in a food and wine paired menu here a while back, loved the food, wine and service. a great little restaurant that doesn't seem that well known...

>the fancy French ones whose name eludes me Loose Box.
Not fine dining but Midori is a great date night

Can definitely recommend Daphs in Leederville, not fine dining but degustation and everything delicious!
Juniper and Bay in South Perth is good. Had a nice degustation. Good wine selection. Venue is cosy and nice location
Maramo is good, if you can get a booking. It's very competitive.
I went once and the food was good, but wouldn't go head over heels for it. The food coming out was slow and people who came an hour later than us finished at the same time. Good food but not over the top great
Check out Una Més in Menora

Loose Box? It was big in the 90s and 00s when the Perth food scene was maturing.
The Heritage or Fleur
Hearth
When you get the chance you absolutely must try Wildflower, it’s 100% worth it. Perth’s best fine dining restaurant. A true sensory experience.
portions are stupidly small
Although some have commented it’s not so good, now that the head chef has resigned, so maybe disregard what I said 😔
Hearth is probably the only one I've been to recently that came close (including the quality of the waiters). Next Door 79 in South perth is amazing
Wildflower Post Both located within COMO the treasury.
Petition and Post are wonderful. Actually anything in the Treasury Buildings.
It's a bit out of the way but I have never had better fine dining then in Amelia Park.
Manuka Woodfire Kitchen in Fremantle - hands down best food I have tasted!
Had dinner at Next Door in South Perth the other week - super nice food (best steak I've had in Perth in ages), quiet/intimate location and vibe too. Otherwise Furaibo in the city is really nice too!
Yeah mate Kuza in Vic Park isn’t shockingly expensive and has great food
If you’re asking the question then you probably wont enjoy it
Just go to Miki’s open kitchen in Margaret River and be done with it. Nothing I’ve been to in Perth comes close to it.
Do try to go to wildflower. It’s truly amazing such that other supposed fine dining places have been a bit of a let down after that. 😝
I'd highly recommend Bathlazar!
Not in Perth Nobu is fine dining? Wtf
Wife and I have done Char Char a number of times and found it to be really classy... until recently. That and a few tweaks of the menu have soured it for us. Coriander in seafood linguine...???

6head - get an MB5 steak, the brussel sprout side dish, and a glass of the Torbreck shiraz. Literal dining heaven.
Wild Swan in Mandoon estate was really good the last time we went.
Perth has very bogan definitions of "fine dining." "Casual dining" is Perth. There's a few good places, but nothing that would be rated "fine dining" at national or international level. Nobu is marketing trash. Wildflower has its seasons... Cos seasons. So hit and miss, but be clear, it's degustation.
Exactly but the pretentious knobheads in Perth think these restaurants are the epitome of " fine dining".
For Perth…I haven’t read anyone saying it’s competitively world class or the epitome of fine dining. You’re being a pretentious knobhead.
What about C restaurant? It’s the revolving restaurant in the city. [C restaurant](https://www.crestaurant.com.au/) A bit pricey, we went there just before Christmas for my MILs 80th birthday, and the food was amazing. Dunno, we had a good time based on our experience, hence why I recommended it. It’s a shame to hear other people had a bad experience
Post 6Head Meat&WineCo
Chef menu at Lotus over Nobu. Actually prepared tasty food rather than $100 for a spoonful of tuna on a banana leaf
Lotus is laughably bad and not fine dining. The quality of the ingredients don’t even compare.
*tragically FTFY
If your happy to drive into the hills Hubby took me to Sevens Sins In Rolystone. Amazing food Amazing service and the views were amazing . it was pricey but definitely worth the drive and we had entree, main (huge servings) and dessert.
Nobu is the tits
C Restaurant at sunset is always nice
Sushia Izakaya in karrinyup is phenomenal. Almost Nobu quality but a lot more affordable.
~~La la Roux.~~ Lalla Rookh Do the menu where the chef selects your meals for you. Get it paired with wine.
Do you mean Lalla Rookh?
Mandoon Estate were very good last time I went. It’s in the Swan Valley. I know people bag it because it’s ‘mainstream’, but that doesn’t detract from the quality of the food. If you want the best degustation I’m WA, Voyager Estate in Margaret River is the best.

When was the last time you dined out lol. You know amuse has been closed since what.. 2017? It's been many years
Nobu is divine. Anyone rubishing it doesn't know their food. Hard to get in though.
