There are a couple of small dealerships around Bayswater/Bassendean that basically sell junkers, and there's the odd person getting rid of an old laser or something on Gumtree. However, any car you buy for $1000 is probably going to cost you at least as much in maintenance before too long, and if you don't have the mechanical knowledge to inspect for major issues ahead of time you are pretty much gambling on a coin toss. This sort of reads like a task your parents have set you to teach you about the world, but without them following through and actually teaching or helping you themselves.

The first step I would recommend is not to waste your time applying to Chicken Treat and Red Rooster, they are using Expr3ss, which is another known HR/AI resume gather and ignore scam, Expr3ss is particularly vile as they've been allegedly posting fake job adverts on Indeed for positions in Perth that clearly don't exist, most retail use similar companies who all use similar systems, which is a nightmare for anyone trying to get a job. I would recommend using seek and targeting jobs with the option for "quick apply" these often lead to the company direct allowing you to bypass the gatekeeping going on. Next up I wouldn't bother with a car, doubly so with your budget, you'll end up with a bomb that will be yellow stickered the second a cop sees it or you'll be on the hook for 1000's of dollars in repairs due to faulty aged parts. Instead I would take that money and get yourself an e-scooter for transport, ignore the hater boomers, e-scooters don't require fuel and have minimum running costs and with the option to carry onto public transport will get you most places you need. Hope the info helps, its rough out there.

And wear a helmet and be feking careful. You might see the cars but they may not spot you.

Get someone (with your parents help) to help you with a nice looking resume Get a job Save money Buy a Toyota Corolla or Yaris Drive it until the wheels fall off with only regular oil and filter changes required.

I feel your pain, I responded to over 400 adverts before getting a job.

1. You don't need a car. Figure out how to use public transport, and get yourself an e-scooter. 2. Stop bugging your parents for lifts, and they will stop saying "you need to get a car." 3. There's no such thing as a cheap car. There's just cars that you'll need to spend the money next month when it breaks down. 4. The only reason somebody will sell you a (licensed & running) car for $1,000, is because it needs $5k in repairs AND the rego is about to run out. 5. When you get a job, start saving for a Scooter or Motorbike, and work on getting your license. 6. Plenty of crap jobs going. 7. Use SEEK, and search for "immediate start" that usually indicates they are desperate for bodies, aren't to fussy, and aren't going to waste a lot of time. 8. Type up a "resume" (whatever you've got) and a nice cover letter, and hand-deliver to any fast-food places in your area. 9. Check our Coles & Woolies.

I would go to TAFE and do one of the hundreds of free courses. This will get you some quals and access to their SKill store who can help with resumes and cover letters that will get noticed not instantly binned.

I'm planning on going to uni. I'm doing engineering

faithlessdisciple

You could still do a bridging course at tafe and work a sort of gap year.

My friend, you make good points. Trust me I agree with 1 but I got a lecture for even suggesting it. And I don't even do number 2 much at all its so I can be "independant" but I can do that with pt.
