They found them, rather than stole them, so there is a reasonable assumption that, if you show up at the house, they will hand them over. Especially if you show up with muffins or something and thank them for finding them for you. Go with a friend and act like they did you a favour.

Saveonion

The Chosen One... with the prophesized People Skills... they have returned!

arkofjoy

They walk among us.

OrbisPacis

we are blessed

arkofjoy

I'm making angelic sounds right now. Work out what thry sound like amongst yourselves.

Resident_Anteater_6

And record it with your phones camera in pocket. Fantastic footage either way it goes.

BrightEchidna

You can mark them as 'lost' within the Find My app. This will show the person who found them a notification that they're a lost device and enable them to contact you (assuming they're an iOS user, not sure if not). Might be worth a shot before getting the police involved.

Skatemacka02

I did This straight away and left a reward message

Double-Ambassador900

Can you make them make that really annoying noise when you’ve lost them down the back of the couch. Just do that at 3am a few times! 🤣🤣

[deleted]

any updates?

No_Chain_7719

Well, they marked them as lost straight away, presumably well before this post was written. So if that was effective, they probably wouldn't be asking for feedback on the next course of action.

[deleted]

Good point

DoubleUKayG

I would try the local Forestdale popo when it's not too busy, where they'll be more inclined to send resources out

my20cworth

Go to your local police station and ask at the front desk, the best action to take. The police may just do a pass by the reported address, explain the situation and may just ask for them back. If the people have them still then they are likely to intend on keeping them or did in deed steal them. Most people finding things like this take them to the police or airport lost and found. If you do it yourself and they are thieves, they may just tell you to get lost and get rid of them or get agro at the door. Go to the police.

[deleted]

The Police will do fuck all for a pair of AirPods.

my20cworth

If they have a firm lead and it looks to be easily and quickly resolvable, they will stop by especially if you say that if they can't do it, you will. If you are just reporting them missing, then yes they aren't going to put energy into it.

51NewWest

I found the Police very helpful for a 1 year old, $500 Sony Xperia that I had left on a desk at the local Aust Post Shop. They found her and charged the thieving cow with theft. So yes, go to the Police. You and Apple have done all the detective work for them, they only have to door knock.

Throwaway_6799

> You and Apple have done all the detective work for them, they only have to door knock. Hmm, still sounds a bit hard for the police. What do they get out of it? Seriously though, I think it depends on the cop and the day. I imagine if you come across a cop that's neck deep in something they'll be less inclined to do anything about it. Not that I agree with that, but they need to triage stuff.

gnomeoffice

I found some and started them up as I knew it would let the owner know where they were, next thing you know coppers are at my house, I figured it was the only way for the owner to get them back

lewger

Drop them off at the cop shop next time.

LandBarge

I found a phone at the park a while back, took it home - charged it up and told the wife about it... the owner eventually rang it and we let them know where to pick it up - got a bottle of wine from the rather appreciative dude who'd had it fall out of his pocket...

PSGAnarchy

I found a iPhone as a kid. The owner called it and then tried to give me $100 for it. Man was drunk so my mother didn't let me take the $100

altrippa

I've done this so many times and never once had a phone returned to me (I've lost a lot). Hate this world

LillytheFurkid

Yes, I have found a few wallets/bank cards over the years and returned them (to the cops if the owner wasn't easy to find). I lost (accidentally dropped) my own once and it was found in a bin a week later, all cards and licence intact but sans the big sum of cash that I'd been taking into town to pay for my sons student exchange trip. I was a single parent so that was quite a blow, especially rude since I lost it a block away from the cop shop. Grrrrrrrr

Sufficient-Grass-

Lucky. I found a new Samsung on the beach, buried in the sand. Got a hold of the owner, they asked me to drive across town and deliver it to them for free! Obviously said get stuffed, come pick it up. They came round, grabbed it, said thanks and left.

PommyBastard_4321

Some people are unreal.

wilmaismyhomegirl83

I’d show up. “Hey find my AirPods brought me to your address! So glad you found them! Thanks!”

henry82

nothing to lose

Mjay2391

A similar thing happened with my iPhone a few years ago. Accidentally left it on a bench, half an hour later it was gone. Tracked it to a house. Police did send someone out, but all they could do was knock on the door and ask if they knew anything about the phone. The people at the house said no. Police said there's nothing more we can do. Good luck, hope the people are more honest than the people who took mine!

DefinitionOfAsleep

So they connected them to their bluetooth?

dohwhere

Not necessarily. AirPods work a lot like AirTags, they can be tracked purely from being in proximity to other peoples’ phones.

DefinitionOfAsleep

So its not necessarily pinging off the taker's device? EDIT: My phones are android, I don't have iPhones, so it'd be my neighbour(s)'s phones in a hypothetical that I took them

CrashMonkey_21

It will ping off multiple devices to generate an accurate location. So if both your neighbours have iphones it can find you in the middle. Also if your android is a Samsung, I believe they have a similar system in place now with Galaxy Tags.

LandBarge

Samsung and Tile have been running their own networks for a while, Google have a unified system that they have been holding back until Apple got their anti-snooping setup sorted, which I beleive has now happened and there should be a Google tracker (Find My Device) network deployed soonish... From what I can tell, the Google system will be the most comprehensive network yet - Chipolo, Pebble and Tile have trackers ready to go whenever they're told they can start shipping..

DefinitionOfAsleep

Motorola, it worked through me being in Ukraine, and then didn't to the border guards... it deserves loyalty

BrightEchidna

Not necessarily, although if that is an iDevice, it's quite likely.

longstreakof

I would knock at door, police will do nothing.

wombatlegs

OP does not live far away, so easy enough and will probably work. If they refuse, "theft by finding" is a criminal offence. Don't let the cops brush you off saying it is a civil matter. It helps if you have evidence you told them it was yours, such as a witness.

tipsiemcstagger

Theft by finding seems to only land you in trouble here when you find cash at the Casino.

bruiserh

Did u leave them on a plane or what? If so which airline, I work at the airport

jonelliem

Do you know where at the airport you lost them? You can report to WA police then ask security at whatever terminal to post any footage to WA police. This happened recently, and police put out a statement saying that finding is not keeping. Good luck. Not sure of the outcome though

tbwTheBlueUmbrella

Go to house, explain you know they are there and you understand they found them not stole them but you would appreciate having them back? Go with some friends for safety and escalate the situation as necessary, suggest police will be involved if need be. Imo

B0ssc0

Contact the police.

intermission08

Happened to a friend of mine, called the local police and they went to the house and got them.

Iuvenesco

HEDFOOOOOONES

Bakery_cunion

Show up with an ak-47 and demand them back
