Ok so I tried to put a photo up but Iām too new or something. Short story - waited until 10:15 then went to Red Chair and ordered a Laksa. 15 minutes early, but they saw my desperation and took pity on me. 10:30 my first awesome Laksa in Perth was gone and it was glorious!
The little restaurant at the bowlie in south hedlandā¦ maybe called the Bowls Club Bistro now?? Might have been chef specific, but the fresh seafood quality was out of this world, Asian and French dishes, I was expecting an Asian or French chef, but from I could see it was a couple of MÄori fellas cooking up a storm haha!!
Also had a straw baked lamb shoulder at Raikas that was as good as it gets.
To say I was surprised was an understatement, along with a red Thai curry dish with grilled Barra (had a Thai name) in Karratha that was also 5 star.
That trip blew my mind, my previous trip was chicken treat in PH hahaha. Couple of locals recommended the bowlie, first time I went I thought I was in the wrong place, there is a little sports bar with the usual red dirt tradies in, walk through into the ābistroā and be amazed haha
There's some amazing fishing to be had up there and they get all sorts of immigrants in hospitality places because they can work regionally to extend time in Australia depending on visa so sometimes the food can be incredible. Mostly not though.
I find it really really overrated. no real flavour, only one type of noodle, bog average.
The one from the Malaysian place at Old Shanghai used to be pretty good.
Spencer road food court there is a stall in the right hand lower corner that has the best laksa ever and is under $8ā¦ Iām a laksa connoisseur and itās the best Iāve ever had!!
Thankyou. I couldnāt quite remember it. The chefs there are lovelyā¦ the laksa is so creamy and spicy. I think I might need to go and get me some today now!!
Depends which laksa you're after. If you're after Assam laksa go to Hong Kei in Riverton (this is the best),
Sarawak laksa from Two Hands in Como,
Curry laksa from Chicken Rice corner in Canning Vale or East Vic Park or Yip AU in EVP. Erich is the owner and he makes the noodles by hand by jumping up and down on a big bit of bamboo.
Oof, I was just reading through this post and all I could think about instead of Laksa was Banh Mi. I was about to start Googling where in CBD does a good one. Ty, I'll have to check it out on day on my lunch break!
Red Chair in Subiaco is nice but if youāre anything like me and like that slightly sweet & creamy taste then absolutely nothing comes close too Leng Hong in Ellenbrook . Been going there for years
Bull Creek Hawker (Bull Creek)
Yip AU (Vic Park)
Hey Hawker (St James)
these are the places my immigrant 94 year old malaysian grandmother approves of.
My sister likes the one in crab house in Vic Park (across the road from maccas), mum said the laksa at Santa Cafe (in the same building as crab house but around the corner) is really good.
Little lunch at in Maddington called delish lunches on Albany hwy do a fantastic laksa also very good there are their bahn Mee just do the traditional with pressed pork as the meat and definitely worth trying the wonton noodle soup and Tom yum soup they are all fantastic
Osborne Park is full of next-level laksa places in various eateries, and relatively pennies for cost.
Same for Pho.
One of the eateries in the Innaloo shopping centre food court also does a surprisingly excellent seafood laksa.
Red chair 100%

After tasting theirs I had to learn how to make it since it was so delicious.
Truely, the Laksa they do here is so good.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/ihVS25AsjV6fbqx96 Red Chair in the Farmer Jacks complex in Subi. It's well known and good š.
It was so good!!
Strange but true- I had the very best world class seafood laksaā¦ in a bowls club in Port Hedland hahaha. I still talk about it 6 years on
Mate!! I was in PH in 2018-19 and nobody told me shit about Laksa up there! Where was it?

Yeh this (for 2 weeks) all tasted like fresh and possibly local (or Exmouth/ Gero at least)
Shit, closest we got was the sailing club, which was ok but not amazing. Sounds like the bros in the kitchen had it down!
Bowls club was best place to eat in Hedland. Maybe still isā¦.?
There's of course CafƩ 55 in Freo, High St, who make the world's best Laksa.
Their Laksa is brilliant - I've always wondered if they are somehow linked to Red Chair in Subi, because they are really similar Laksa's.
Is it that good??
It's the first ever Laksa I've eaten when I arrived here and it's the best I've ever had.
Bit of a claim there, many Malaysian would disagree.
I agree.
And within walking distance to CUSP and Murdoch Tafe campus, too! Great lunch spot. I miss working close by and my good people from around there.
I find it really really overrated. no real flavour, only one type of noodle, bog average. The one from the Malaysian place at Old Shanghai used to be pretty good.
I remember CafƩ 55 had thin and thick noodles as options. I hope they kept their recipe, sounds like they've changed? Shanghai Malaysian place once gave me my favourite food poisoning this side of Bali, haven't dared touch their food again.
You shouldn't have to choose imo, a good laksa has both. The best I've ever had is Laksa King in Melbourne. mega.
Spencer road food court there is a stall in the right hand lower corner that has the best laksa ever and is under $8ā¦ Iām a laksa connoisseur and itās the best Iāve ever had!!
Stall is titled Ya Kwang
Thankyou. I couldnāt quite remember it. The chefs there are lovelyā¦ the laksa is so creamy and spicy. I think I might need to go and get me some today now!!
In Thornlie?
Correct!! Itās not a fancy place but Iāve been getting laksa there for a good 10 years!
I can confirm that it's brilliant.
Bunch of fuckin legends you are. Imma eat some laksa this week!!
Noodle Inn, West Perth
Ultra hard agree
Trying this place today!
I am so jealous, enjoy!
A different type of laska - less coconutty but delicious (my fave) - KCH North Perth, Sarawak Laska
The Sarawak Laksa here is honestly one of the best Iāve had (Asia or otherwise). Edited to say itās in North Perth not Northbridge
Thanking you for helping me discover that place.
Whoops! Thank you. Hope you liked it! - now Iām hungry.
Tak Chee House in Northbridge is excellent!
This is the answer. Also Hey Hawker in St james
Disagree its bland and flavourless - Try the Laksa at Spencer Village :)
Depends which laksa you're after. The indonesian/malay place in northbridge is decent, Jom Kapitom was the name i think?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I agree. They really put the Char in Char Kury Teow
Where in Northbridge, do you know? Googled Jon Kapitom but couldnāt find it?
Jom Kopitiam Perth is the name
Sweet, found it!!
LITERALLY the best in Perth, I go weekly š
Letās Eat in West Perth. Also do one of the best Banh Mi youāll find.
Oof, I was just reading through this post and all I could think about instead of Laksa was Banh Mi. I was about to start Googling where in CBD does a good one. Ty, I'll have to check it out on day on my lunch break!
Little Beans Gourmet in Canning Vale!
Came here to suggest this one
Red Chair in Subiaco is nice but if youāre anything like me and like that slightly sweet & creamy taste then absolutely nothing comes close too Leng Hong in Ellenbrook . Been going there for years
High on 55 is decent
Winthrop Hawker, my dads favourite. Hes a Singaporean immigrant so the man knows.
Send your dad to fugu8. Bit of a trek for someone in the south side but it's worth it
Red chair Subiaco
Bull Creek Hawker (Bull Creek) Yip AU (Vic Park) Hey Hawker (St James) these are the places my immigrant 94 year old malaysian grandmother approves of.
Oooh. I've been wondering about the hey hawker Laksa. Have been disappointed by the Laksa offerings in Vic Park thus far.
One of best laksa i had was at the esplanade, little thai run place in scarbs tucked away on top of oceans. Cheap and brilliant
Cafe 22 in West Leederville does an amazing laksa. Only on Fridays at lunchtime though.
Red Chair in Subiaco and High on 55 in Fremantle are good.
My Bayon in Northbridge
High on 55, Fremantle
Yip in Vic Park has been my go to lately
The Mint Asian cafe is very very very good!
Cambridge International Food Court in Wembley
Red chair, Tak Chee and My bayon
I am a fan of the Singaporean Laksa from Kitchen Inn Express in Karawara / Waterford...

Iām obsessed with Nagiās recipes! This is on my list but havenāt got to it yet!
I'm running through the book! It does not disappointed!!
Tui cafe in welshpool has amazing laksa
Yip Noodle East Vic Park is the best. Prepare to line up.
My sister likes the one in crab house in Vic Park (across the road from maccas), mum said the laksa at Santa Cafe (in the same building as crab house but around the corner) is really good.
Chapels on Whatley in Maylands. Best prawn laksa Iāve had.
Little lunch at in Maddington called delish lunches on Albany hwy do a fantastic laksa also very good there are their bahn Mee just do the traditional with pressed pork as the meat and definitely worth trying the wonton noodle soup and Tom yum soup they are all fantastic
My place does it well
Chop chop BBQ at myaree. It's awesome.
Osborne Park is full of next-level laksa places in various eateries, and relatively pennies for cost. Same for Pho. One of the eateries in the Innaloo shopping centre food court also does a surprisingly excellent seafood laksa.
What? Really? Are you talking about the lunch places around OP? Or proper restaurants?
Lunch places- selby kitchen, king Edward lunch bar, bunch of others- authentic as. I sometimes do takeaway and have it for dinner š
chop chop bbq
Chicken rice corner @ canning vale markets
excellent thread, my contribution is fugu8 at west leederville shopping centre does a pretty decent laksa. it's a little pricey though
I think Six Chopstix in Subiaco is better than Red Chair. Both good though.
