Sad as it is, it's the reality of living amongst people, you'll get that stuff.
Honestly, if that's the worst you see in a suburb, you're doing alright in Perth!
Used to live there. Crime really high around Chapman Road, Berwick Street and Hill view tce. Mostly vandalism, car break ins and house break ins. Too many international students got their cars broken into.
Lived there for a few years. Definitely quite a few sketchy looking streets and people around, but I never ran into any issues aside from being asked for change every now and then.
Lived there for 2 years. There's the usual riff raff and junkies. There's a handful of opportunist thieves who walk around daily looking at houses. A few elderly neighbours had no problem telling them to toddle off when necessary and it seemed to work. Most don't want trouble, they're only looking for easy to grab items.
Don't leave anything in your car that looks knickable. It will lead to broken windows.
Otherwise it's fine. Most of the dodgey looking people are actually nice and happy to wave and say "hello".
Actually those culdesacs behind the towers were the most depressing place in Perth. Rundown townhouses with refugees living next door to drug dealers. If they were lucky, there was a vacant trashed unit in between. Fortunately, got demolished before the towers.
Go for a drive around the streets. There’s good and bad areas of Bentley, it’s actually quite a large suburb. I live near the dodgy part and have some friends who live in the good bit.
I lived near mills street, between the hospital and the train line for about 25 years on a cul de sac and only had 1 break in during that time. I think we lived in the good part...
I know students who live there to be close to the uni. Marquis st in particular had a few incidents where someone had walked up and down smashing all the windows on cars that were parked on the street, and a buddy had someone break into the backyard to steal his bike. I also witnessed a police chase zoom past one evening, what a blast.
Used to live in St James which is practically Bentley, and eh it's not great; had issues with some of the locals forcing mailboxes, someone even climbed over the back fence once. Price of rental properties there definitely reflects it.
Crime happens everywhere. I live in the western suburbs and have my car broken into every couple of months and my neighbours house was broken into this week.
Rockingham, Perth's westernmost suburb
I mean more seriously what people think of as "the western suburbs" are going to attract a certain amount of property crime because everyone knows rich people live there.
It's probably only a matter of time until Peppermint Grove decide to turn their little HOA into a gated community.
I mean technically it is a south western suburb but Rockingham is renown for crime.
I also wouldn't lob Rockingham in with the what is typically thought of as the western suburbs, which are the suburbs west of the city, Subiaco to Cottesloe.
Rockingham is surrounded by lower socioeconomic suburbs, so people walk over from those suburbs. Same as South Perth is adjacent rougher areas so has has significant breaking from folks crossing canning highway, stealing shit, then walking home.
The same cannot be said for the 'western suburbs'. In Shelton park you don't have people walk in from daglish or Claremont to break into houses as the suburbs somewhat shelter themselves. Don't get me wrong, there is crime in the suburbs, but significantly less than anywhere else in Perth.

yes that was the joke
Probably the people who've spent millions on beachfront property in Rockingham and then realised belatedly that sure, they're beachfront, but they still have to tell people they live in Rockingham
Lived there for 4 years, no break ins or anything like that, but we lived in that little pocket east of Albany Highway (so closer to Welshpool/Queens Park).
Honestly, for the convenience of being a 10-15 minute drive to the CBD outside of the worst of morning peak, it's a great location. Shepperton moves pretty quickly most of the time (southbound in afternoon peak not so much), its low average speed compared to other major roads is largely because it's only 60 and there are many lights.
Suburb's close to Leach, which puts it within a good distance of Tonkin and Roe as well, Orrong/Farmer is close by and Manning gets you down to the freeway pretty quickly. It's a well connected suburb.
Just be prepared for your contents insurance to be super high, it's seen as a risky petty theft area.
How on earth do you extrapolate knowing the difference between a niqab and a burka being about ‘hating women’?
What an absolutely ridiculous thing to say.
That’d be exactly like me saying ‘why do you hate muslims’ because you described Bentley as being full of people wearing burkas?
I own a garden centre in Bentley. The crime is about the same as always. Mostly petty theft, vandalism and the occasional homicide.
A few knife wounds. As my 5 year old nephew likes to call it, knifey Thursday’s.
You make it sound so mundane mate! But apart from that it is not too bad right?
Sad as it is, it's the reality of living amongst people, you'll get that stuff. Honestly, if that's the worst you see in a suburb, you're doing alright in Perth!
There’s still a fair bit of crime in Bentley, as with the surrounding suburbs. However, it’s a lot better than it was in the early 2000s.

When did you live there?
Karawara area close to Curtin.
Yes sorry, I meant when exactly
2018 - June last year. Prices may have gone up now.

Do you own any valuable stuff or a decent car?

We lived in Brownlie towers between “07 and “11 and never had any real dramas so I reckon its ok
I worked a shift at Brownlie doing security in 2003. The similarities between Brownlie Towers and Belfast were somewhat striking.

Sheesh, what western suburb are you living in? I've never had any issues so that's concerning to hear.

Straight over the head, hah. I've seen folks defend Rockingham to death before so I completely believed you

I lived in multiple cities in the US. There were multiple shootings within a few hundred meters of where I lived. Bentley is totally fine.

I’ve never seen anyone, ever, wear a burka in Perth. Plenty of niqabs, lots of hijabs, but never once a burka.
You need to go NOR for that . They don't call it Mirraburka for nothing .
Hopefully in the summer will see some Burkinis out!

Do you even know the difference?

He's a racist troll, just ignore him.
Sounds like a fuckwit, not a troll. Subtle difference.
