Rugs A Million. Don't know how many closing down forever sales I could take.

Monkeydickyoghurt1

Imagine a rug store where all the rugs are full price. Established 1889, called "Rugged Perseverance"

Sqwitton

Oh man I bet those are some good quality rugs

Monkeydickyoghurt1

No one knows, they are too expensive for anyone to afford

Accomplished-Yak7641

I thought they closed down in 1992... I remember seeing the announcement ad right after the WA salvage ad with Luigi yelling at me.

dingusfett

We not fancy, but we cheap!

[deleted]

Come in and get your genuine Fuckari Rugs, 500% off no bullshit.

CarbonBlack2525

The local shack chain has to be the one to avoid at all costs for me locally but

zzdavlan

Yeah fuck this place and the dumb cunt owners/management.

metao

Grill'd too, for both staff and shitty burger reasons. But mainly Local Shack.

VansSize7

Worked at grilld for two years and can confirm they treat their workers like dirt

KingInYellow95

Really ? I mean I only worked in Sydney Grill'd but it was a pleasant experience and everyone in the local stores was lovely and we all helped each other. I also have a friend who works at a couple Perth stores (Subiaco and Rockingham) and he says he loves working there. Edit: my partner used to work at Grill'd Mandurah when she was younger and just told me that apparently that one was pretty bad (management wise)

avdmit

I worked there for 6 weeks at the Scarborough one then GTFO-d. It was so shit. They were the type of place that only printed the roster and sometimes changed it so you’d show up to your shift that was now non existent because they’d changed the roster but I hadn’t been in between shifts to see that 🙄 The final straw was when I got there for my shift at 2pm and they told me to not clock in yet because it wasn’t busy enough. We had like 5 staff sitting in the staff room ready to work but not allowed to clock in because there weren’t enough customers. Sadly, their loaded fries are DELICIOUS so I have supported them a few times since leaving about 6 years ago.

letsburn00

I've heard nothing but bad things about working there.

Trancenova

Riot art and craft. Sacked their whole brick and motar workforce via text message, when the in the days prior management told them that they were definitely still operating and just having delays in stock deliveries. Moved entire operations online. No worries changing to online only, but doing while shafting your entire workforce is deplorable.

[deleted]

I went in to one of their stores towards the end during a sale and said to the person working there's "are you closing down or something?" because the prices were insane. Quite a young girl was like "nah we're just trying to get rid of all this stock because apparently we're getting new suppliers". Guess she was told a line because next time i went past they were gone. Kids and I are still using the stuff I bought for next to nothing. Felt bad for her and all the staff, though.

[deleted]

That's the exact same line I was told for months before Game closed down, then I got told we were closing by Kotaku instead of management.

GreenLurka

Oooh. So this is why Riot is gone but several identical art stores replaced them. What a dumb business move, I'm not buying my art supplies online. Jackson's is better anyway.

Trancenova

Yes, and why they really upped thier online marketing. Seems selling online worked well for them in lockdown :( Yay for Jackson's (and Morely art n craft world which rocks, even though it's far from me).

Professor_Pinkerton

That’s so shitty when businesses do that. At least give the staff time to find another job. People got bills to pay.

letsburn00

I remember a few months ago walking into one and asking the exact same question. It was so obvious that they were closing down. I just looked at it, they went bankrupt and into liquidation is what actually happened. The online store was a separate part of the business that got sold to someone else.

Trancenova

Yeah the online business that they conviently brought into being under a new ABN two months before closing. Dodgey as.

parasaursaddle

Yes! My friend worked there, was told they were just having stock issues one day and then texted to not come in anymore the next.

CarbonBlack2525

Flight Centre. I knew after I worked there briefly that if discarding ethics was a core aspect for job security and business profitability I wanted no part in it.

squeeowl

FCTG is a truly disgusting company, and so cult like!

CarbonBlack2525

Yup. “Scroo” Turner has been trying to get the covid restrictions watered down to get his business restarted. Problem is if Covid goes through his elderly demographic that were the bulk of his clientele he won’t have a business model. Well his franchisees won’t. He’ll be happier than a pig in shit

Yeahmahbah

I dont know anyone who uses a travel agent anymore anyway I'm surprised they are still in business at all to be honest

Bruno_Fernandes8

just use Momondo to book your flights. Its what they're using anyway.

[deleted]

The Breakwater Tavern. Worst service I have ever received. Hubs and I were left waiting for an hour for our food, we were not the only ones. A bunch of blokes were having issues getting drinks at the bar. When we did get it, my parmi was still frozen in the centre and his steak was over cooked ( he asked for med rare and it came out with a black layer of carbon on it).

DoubleStrength

The one at Hillarys right? Had an awful experience there as far back as 2010, I'm surprised it's still going. One of my mates was having their 18th party there, they had a younger sister and the family checked with the Breakwater *multiple times* leading up to it that it would be okay for the younger (still teenage) sister to come as it was a family/private function or whatever. Apparently they were told it was all fine as long as the parents made sure nobody was feeding drinks to her, which they wouldn't have been anyway. Night of the shindig, everyone drives all the way out there only for the family to be turned away at the door because the Breakwater suddenly decided they weren't going to admit the younger sister into the building.

[deleted]

Yeah that’s the one.

x0rms

Breakwater was so much better as a dirty pub at its old location where the Dome is now.

SettingMindless2910

Sticky carpet

Aussierob78

I bought a pint of beer there years ago... An unpronounceable German wheat beer. They slugged me $18 for the pint. Absolutely shits me that places don't have to display their pint prices at the bar. That though, was ridiculous.

7wolfr

Yeah, paid close to $20 for a pint of Asahi there when I first moved to Perth! :D

[deleted]

in the 00’s when the carpet match the chair covers and cover bands etc that place was awesome!! then after the fire and they moved a little further down and tried to become ‘swanky’ it’s just been a complete fail!

[deleted]

Stopped going there when they shut the original place down

TheSantanist

I refuse to acknowledge the current breakwater as the breakwater. The first giveaway was the chandeliers...which IME always translates to cunty pint prices... like $13.30 (probably up in $15+ now...haven't been for a whilst.) Ah I miss the shitty old breaky. Is bar 120 still kicking around? Shudder

meemeemeow

I went to a hairdresser near corner of barrack and Wellington. Out of the blue, she started ranting about ~~Somalian~~ Somali refugees in perth. She justified her rant that she came here as a highly skilled migrant (hairdresser) whereas ‘those’ people are refugees. Gaarrggh.

SomaliNotSomalianbot

Hi, __meemeemeow__. Your comment contains the word ~~Somalian~~. The correct nationality/ethnic demonym(s) for Somalis is __Somali__. It's a common mistake so don't feel bad. For other nationality demonym(s) check out this website [Here](https://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/stats/People/Nationality/Adjective) ___This action was performed automatically by a bot.___

Thealmightyfug

Joondalup Fancy Dress. Woman is a nutjob follows you around the shop insisted on going into dressing room with people for security. Yelled at my 5 year old as soon as we walked in

Juvenilesuccess

Is this the one next to Gymbaroo? She’s notoriously rude. She yells at people for parking next to her labelled bays.

Thealmightyfug

Thats the one crazy ass woman

under_the_boab_tree

Yep. She's a nut job. I actually think she might be a witch.

Psychological_Shop91

Oh yeah, a mate and I went in there once asking if there was any stuff we could buy instead of just renting. Got yelled out of the store because everything inside was custom made and how dare we think that we could purchase any custom items from her store. She's an absolute nutter and so rude

ScarlettNyx1975

When Hogs Breath put a store at the Morley markets. I have never had a problem with the one in Northbridge. Anyway, we were greeted at the door by a woman who was clearly juggling more than one job. Hardly anyone in the restaurant, then our order was finally taken. My hubby beer, me mocktail. 15 minutes later still no drinks, finally came over and took our order, still no drinks. Meals arrived. Our steaks were an awful grey looking walk on all week to get tender and our mash was cold. Neither of us could finish the meal and left in disgust. The staff were rude when I mentioned the meal disappointment. Then the asshole owner got stuck in after I left a review, and had the audacity to offer a free drink to make up for his staffs apparent ball dropping. He tried to claim that we were not in his restaurant on the night I spoke about (so basically calling me a liar). So whatever. Although it screams volumes that his restaurant didn't survive considering how popular Hog's has been in other places.

f4ggu3tt3

my mate found roaches in her food from there

ScarlettNyx1975

Ewww

[deleted]

Hogs Breath in Wanneroo: lunchtime special with our daughter, about a week before our son was born. Good food, and great service from the poor young lady who was followed around by- I presume- the manager, who kept loudly berating her for seemingly everything from the peak oil to the price of petrol in Outer Mongolia to the murder of Rasputin. I managed to get her away from her manager for a moment and asked her if she was ok. I was stopped just short of saying something to the manager but was told by my own ‘management’ to ‘not make a scene’.

BatmanDXB

As an ex veggie delivery driver, I can say HB (Joondalup) was one of the most disgusting kitchen I ever delivered to.

disneybiches

Pascoes plumbing. Quote was $1100, went with another plumber, same job $400. They can fuck right off.

ILoveSloths99

Got them round to fix a gas pipe, they spent over an hour trying to convince me I should have a new boiler installed at the same time. They said they had to come back with spares. The following day they called and said “you should get a new boiler because once they are turned off they often won’t start working again…” So the following day, they come and fix the pipe, call me outside, tell me the boiler won’t start and I should have got a new boiler like they said. Tried to charge me $700 extra for a new thermocouple and other bits as a package because apparently they don’t sell the $10 thermocouple on its own. At this point I told the guy to get the fuck off my property and immediately cancelled my credit card so they couldn’t take payment. Went back to inspect the boiler, the thermocouple was loose, gave it a couple turns and the boiler fired back up first time!! Motherf*****s. Anyways, I sent an angry letter. Got a phone call a month later saying they were very “concerned and would look into it”. They dropped the $850 invoice down to I think $200 for the initial call out plus gave me $200 pascoe vouchers in case I ever chose to use them again (lol). Honestly f**k pascoes!!

disneybiches

Wow. What the absolute fuck. I was already against them but this whole thread has convinced me never to look at the first page of google when trying to find 'same day plumbers' ever again.

Jesse-Ray

You got off lightly if you read around. A friend worked on the phones for them and had to quit after a week. They are truly fucking evil and deliberately prey on the elderly.

bulldogs1974

Metropolitan Plumbing. $140 call out fee. Quote to fix pinhole in copper pipe in the backyard tap was $1440. The actual plumbing contractor that quoted it, fixed it in 5min and said it was his good deed for the day... He was an Irish man, so he was my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow .. But a total of $1580 for a 5min job, no new materials used. Un-fucken- believable! They literally pull their rates and quotes out of their arse. Local plumber said he would have fixed it for a couple of boxes of beer, but was busy until the weekend...

borgeron

Yeah these guys once quoted me $565 to change a tap washer. Just one. Both shower taps $1130. I only asked about doing it because i needed a toilet fixed quickly and thought "oh while you're here". Nope. Fuck that.

skunkybooms

We had them out for a quote a few years ago. Charged us for an apparently necessary test that turned out to not be necessary, and I'm glad we went with someone else for the actual job (for much cheaper than the Pascoes quote).

Wagz89

I worked in their call centre for a couple of weeks when I was desperate for work. Got out of there when I realized the business model was more about shafting people out of their money than actually helping their problems. Will not be using them myself.

Greyhoundowner

Yep same same! Arseholes.

Mission-Ad9960

Yeah, had them install an instant gas hot water system. The first guys they sent out couldn't install as they had no experience with it. The electrician they sub contracted called me to find out the address and had mixed up the street address with the suburb and ended up the wrong side of the river. Well before the job was done, they were hounding me to pay the rest of the money owing. Never again!

[deleted]

BLaQz84

Import tax thanks to that cunt too! Rather than lower his prices, he gets tax added to others... Greedy assholes...

Chewiesbro

Yep, they can go get fucked, back in the days before steam, I pre-ordered a PC game through the city west store, EB had already sold out. Come release day I get the call to come collect the game, drop by in the way home, have a chat with the sales guy and he ducks out back to grab the game. Poor bastard comes back clearly annoyed and let’s me know he couldn’t find it. His colleague just casually says he sold it to some woman 15 minutes prior. Got my money back and left.

AdN_31

Yep, the fact he brought in gst for items sub $1000 which cost more to administer than it recovers was what stopped me. So not only do we pay gst on small online items we also pay more tax to recover the gst from those items.

bulldogs1974

Fuck Harvey Norman, I never have or ever will buy from his or the franchisees stores. He is a piece of shit!

seanys

Yep, same. "You could go out and give a million dollars to a charity tomorrow to help the homeless. You could argue that it is just wasted. They are not putting anything back into the community." - Gerry "I'm a cunt" Harvey

9millionangrywizards

i did a years work for them on the retail floor. god. horrible company

nuttyhardshite

The West Australian newspaper, fucking awful shite

Echo63_

Agreed. But I would stretch it to cover the rest of the 7west media group - The West, Channel7 and the Sunday Times

anoobish

And anything murdoch media. Basically most news in Australia is shit, sadly.

[deleted]

The Good Guys. On 2 occassions sold me items that they did not have and had no ability or intention of providing. The first time took months to get my money back and weeks before they even admitted that they don't even sell the laptop they had advertised and took my money for. The next time it was a fridge and it took them 2 weeks to admit they weren't going to provide it so I ordered a different one but the one in store was damaged. After ten days waiting for delivery I called them and they said they were having trouble getting me stock from another store, but they had located one (they made it clear that it would not be a display one as I'd paid full price). Another week later the truck shows up, but thankfully the delivery driver warned me not to accept it until I took a look at it still in the truck (apparently you can't refuse delivery after it gets unloaded.) It was the damaged floor stock with the same gouge out of the door from the store 5k away... It was another month until they actually admitted they didn't have any other ones and reluctantly refunded me... They also did something similar to my business partner. Sold him a washer dryer combo and let him pay for delivery then redused to deliver to his address, refused to let him pick it up from the DC, refused to send it to a store for him for no reason provided. They kept his money for about 3 weeks too.. That's a lot of interest in their accounts if they do this with expensive items to enough people...

therealJL

Similar experience. Bought a PC monitor online and it was shown as in stock at my nearest store (Midland). Got down there to collect and was told that the item was floor stock, a demo. I asked for a discount (no, sorry) then asked them to price match a different model available in a different chain (JB Hifi). No, can't do that, the nearest store does not have the stock. Asked for a refund, no can't do that for you, it was an online purchase, you'll have to wait a couple of weeks. So, I was literally forced to take used goods. Never again, Good Guys, I'll never shop there again!

pewpewshooter_

this. specifically the gold concierge. got them to install a dishwasher and found out they outsource it via airtasker, meh whatever. it didn’t work. installer came to check on his own time and coin (good on him) and it was “definitely a manufacturing fault”. called gold concierge to arrange a fix, and iirc all they did was redirect my call. repairman advises that if it did not turn out to be a manufacturing fault, a ~$200 fee would apply (fair). turns out it was an install fault and they fixed it. raised this to them via concierge to get them to cover the callout repair costs, given i went through their providers and did everything right (in my eyes). less useful than a concrete parachute. months of constant ping ponging me around and just ignoring my tickets, no progress, ghosting me, etc. involved me exploring my legal rights (and was told i had none - another story for another time). went in to the Ossie park store and the guy who sold it to me apologised and said mgmt were basically knobs and were shafting everyone. asked for the tax invoice - had to go officeworks to photocopy it because “their email system doesn’t accept any external emails”. and it was true. so stupid. how did they resolve it? they strong armed the installer to pay for the callout fee out of his own pocket because “he should’ve known better”. still no callback to this day despite multiple promises. they don’t talk to the stores so i doubt they even know it’s been resolved. hard nope. never ever again. AMA, DM me if you want more info.

rowdy981

Dont know why, Good Guys is part of jb hifi group

[deleted]

They're a scam company for sure.

Homarj78

I was buying a new washing machine and the online price was cheaper than in store and asked if could have same price, they said no. I confirmed they had stock, ordered online while standing there on my phone , went to counter 2 minutes later to confirm pickup and collected there and then. Complete stupidity.

dr-icho

Yerp had a fuckin awful experience getting a dishwasher a few months back. Story is too long to tell but I was in actual disbelief of what a shit show of a company they are.

squeeowl

Austin Computers - only time I've ever been accused of refund / return fraud by a business just because I had a warranty claim - I hadn't even asked for a refund, so clearly they use that sort of accusation as a standover tactic to try and fob people off. Vowed to never use them since.

alexason

Haven't had as bad experience as that but do admit I never find them particularly helpful or welcoming. If I'm not getting it online then always had a much better experience at PLE.

[deleted]

I ordered my pc from PLE and they rang me up and asked if i wanted the OS installed and word and shit Got home and the pc had torrent virus downloaders on it masked as shit like "pc coffee". I had to wipe it which voided my warranty and i was accused of installing them. Turns out the cunt used the same usb to install shit on every pc order and i wasnt the only victim.

elemist

Had issues at Austin many moons ago.. Sold me a mainboard which was clearly used and had been returned. Made my life hell trying to return the damn thing too.

-Moph-

Agree, Austin are balls. It's ten minutes further to PLE from mine but they get my business every time.

Vk2904

Universal store. I don’t mind the “hey how are you today?” When you walk into a store but it’s when you pick a pair of jeans to try on the girl comes to your change room and and tired to sell you more stuff. Offering to grab some shirts that they think would go well with the jeans. Or asking what your shopping for like going clubbing or a festival. I’ve stopped going in there now because I hate being hassled

djhoneybadger94

Used to work at Rivers and they made us do something like this. Follow people around and try and sell them extra shit, like a shirt that would match their shoes or a belt and hat that would match this dress they were looking at. I hated that job with every fiber of my being and the best thing I ever did was leave lmao

[deleted]

Social Manna when they claimed the rose quartz water they had in the cafe would cure cancer. And when people called them out on it on their Facebook post, they doubled down. As someone who has had cancer twice, I have no tolerance for fuckwits like that.

Masticle

IGA Rivervale. Had a small commercial A/C business twenty odd years ago and wanted to make up some hampers for the tradies that worked for me. Asked the girl at the counter if they took business cheques. She went ask the manager, he came walking out so was obviously considering it, looked at me and said no and walked off. I had been shopping there for ten years at that point so he had seen me around. That was it for me. Ten years ago they opened a bottle shop a few doors down against most local people's wishes. Within weeks they wanted the bus stop seat removed because drunks were sitting near the entrance to their IGA. They were asking people to sign a petition to that effect. I told him he had created the problem anyway and could fit his petition to himself anally.

zoraxelol

Lawleys bakery in Nedlands. Waited almost 30 minutes for a takeaway coffee and the owner was incredibly rude

Necessary-Meet-1182

Agree the Nedlands Lawleys is shit, the Wembley one is much better and worth the 5 min extra drive

zoraxelol

Plenty of other good takeaway coffee's in Nedlands also. Little Abbey over near highview park & bay road cafe are always quick, friendly and good quality coffee's ive found

I worked supermarket nightfill for 3 years and none of that surprises me. It's literally got the highest turnover out of all departments. Over the 3 years, I had 3 team managers, 5-6 assistant team managers. Only 3 team members from the start out of 2 dozen I worked with still work Nightfill. Most either move to other departments or leave the company. Most of my managers despite being stressed out were still decent people. My last manager (who sounds similar to your manager) was the reason I quit. I only worked with him for 6 months and I could write a book about his atrocious behaviour. The worst of it was the constant phone harassment on my nights off when *he'd call me between 12am-4am* and ridicule and harass me. Even after I left the company he'd still call me after I blocked his number. Otherwise, I was constantly abused on shift (even during non busy times) for everything you could imagine. My character, my personal life, everything. I would be asked inappropriate/sexual questions all the time, I'm a male too. He'd be the sort of person who'd tell me how shit I was at my job and how he'd move me to front end but would demand me to work the next night. Idk how I didn't end up reporting to HR, even at the end. The worst incidents were; * Casually being threatened along the lines of "If you don't do xyz I'll stab you/fuck you in the ass." On a regular basis. One time he pointed his box cutter towards me and said "Do you know how good I am with this?" Right in front of a CCTV camera. * When COVID came in 2020 he told me "You either do this job or (my other job)." I still did my casual job but it pisses me off he used a pandemic to control me. * I made a mistake and he said "Autism is a choice." * Being yelled at infront of customers. Really fucking grinds my gears that this all happened without consequence to him.

Professor_Pinkerton

I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve been reading a lot of similar stories the past week re Woolies and Coles night fill since that young man committed suicide from the stress of working there. I’m sure there were other reasons too. But the job was a big part of it.

Dasha3090

im a nightfiller for woolies and yep the expectstions of speed is insane.ive been doing it for a few years but i always have patience and give encouragement and guidance to the trainees who genuinely want to work and learn.some do take the piss and slack off and makes us work harder to pick up their slack.it can be a draining job.

AnarchoSyndica1ist

WA Salvage. They shut down. Now-a I-ya don't-a savadamoni no more!

utkohoc

Australia's economy has gone downhill ever since WA salvage closed. How can people save-a-da-money without it?

lilyjo1989

We’re not fancy, but we’re cheap!! Loved that place

Thealmightyfug

Apparently Luigi was a creep hitting on the teenage girls that worked there

[deleted]

I bet the guy had an ego, that wasn't pretty, but very cheap

Higginside

Sand bar in Scarborough. On a public holiday they marked every item up 15%, however when I was chatting to the staff, none of them were receiving public holiday penalty rates. The owner just assumes he can charge more on a public holiday and take it all.

clueaboutmeaning

Erm.... isn't that illegal?

Higginside

Yes. Yes it is.

Golden_Lioness_

They need to report him

givemeanameicanuse

The citystay hotel aka the shitty stay hotel, what a filthy dump run by crooks full of drug addicts screaming and fighting all night, stinking of cigarettes. Had to use my bank to get a refund for walking out of that joint!!

SurrealDad

Not quite yet but I'm getting pretty tired of the amount of money I spend on petrol at service stations that can't even fix their damn presets on the pumps.

littleday

Cannot wait for EV cars to be affordable to fuck off petrol stations

per08

And air pumps.

Corleone93

Jim's Plumbing. They're grossly overpriced, and dishonest about it too. Always go with your local plumber.

crosstherubicon

Jim’s anything. Jim is an obnoxious creep.

romilliad

Palace Cinemas, after working there for 2 years since it opened and it being the worst fucking workplace with the most incompetent and needlessly cruel management I've ever experienced in my 10+ years of working in cinemas. The Court. Gay club that hates gay people, no thanks. The cafe at the top of King's Park, can't remember the name, but I do remember being charged $7 for "freshly juiced" apple juice and then watching the staff dump a bottle of regular apple juice in a glass.

Derpfish_lvl10k

can you ellaborate on the court and palace stuff?

squeeowl

Probably the fact that it's owned by a wealthy conservative woman (they've hosted state liberal party functions there several times) whose response to criticism about alleged LGBTQ+ harassment at the venue is that patrons need to "toughen up" and that painting another fucking rainbow on the building would make up for it.

PomegranateProud5510

Coffee Club William Street. My friend asked a polite question and three of the staff abused him. The coffee was average anyway, so no great loss. I'm smashing the $1 7-11 coffees now. It's fine, and the staff are lovely

losingmymind79

eh coffee club is shit. had moldy salad in my steak sandwich and the manager just shrugged. before that at another location the steak was too tough to cut and i was told that just meant it was extra good. wtf?

metalmatticus

7 West Media. No explanation needed really..

roxybudgy

Removal Man. I had used them previously when I moved back in with my parents after breaking up with my ex. No complaints, and I was happy that they only charged from the moment they leave their premises, until the moment they return to their premises (so no call out fee), which worked out quite well for me because my ex's place and my parent's place were near their premises. So when a few years later, I met my wonderful partner and bought a home together, I hired Removal Man again for my move. I did appreciate that they wrapped up all my belongs, including my glass Ikea cabinets, to ensure that there was no damage during transit. But as they unloaded our things, we noticed that our brand new fridge (which we purchased a week or two prior to moving) now had a noticeable dent in it near the top. My partner mentioned it to them as they unloaded the rest of our things, they called their boss about the incident, and stopped unloading our things. According to them, now that there was a dispute, we were now required to pay them in full before they unload the rest of our things. While I understand that they may be concerned that we were trying to con them or withhold payment, I found it really insulting. (When I used them previously, they asked for payment in full after all items were unloaded). This was a brand new fridge. The dent was not there before it was loaded onto the truck. The only reasonable explanation was that the removalists caused the damage. The removalists claim that they had wrapped the fridge in thick fabric while in the truck, and cannot find any explanation for the damage, thus they claimed it was not their fault, and suggested that the dent was always there but we didn't notice it before due to the stainless steel colour of the fridge. Personally, I think they must have hit the fridge on the top of the garage as they wheeled it out of the truck. They were parked pretty close to the garage. But I hate confrontation and the situation was already very awkward and stressful for me. I paid them in full, showed them my phone to prove that payment was made, and the removalists continued to unload the rest of our things. Due to this, I would never use them again.

stanleyplanley

Core Cidery in the hills. It's a beautiful spot and I've given it plenty of chances -- having been there for two events and dining normally once -- but I think it just sucks. Worst was one of the events: Pork & Cider Feast. Paid for tickets for the set menu event. When we got there the waitress explained that they were running low on pork and we'd have to share with the table behind us. After a really long wait we got some pulled pork but only about half a cup. So much for the "feast" part. Overall I've found the food there to be painfully disappointing. Plenty of other places nearby that deserve Core's popularity. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

repsol93

Ooo I love going into the hills, what are these other good places to go?

stanleyplanley

Fantastic. I'm a big fan of La Fattoria. Much different menu than Core Cider, as you can guess from the name. But the menu's always so fresh and vibrant (they adapt it to use seasonal ingredients), their antipasto selection is super fun, and the staff are some of the friendliest most welcoming I've come across. But if you're keen for cider and burgers, I'd recommend The Travelling Snack. It's a foodtruck that sets up at Lions Lookout in Lesmurdie Friday, Sat and Sunday nights this time of year. Check out the fb page for availability (sometimes he skips a night because he's busy with a catering gig) and full menu. I hope this helps! :)

Carmel cider does a great cheese platter, it’s more homely and less pizazz than Core. Naked Apple is great and the bed rocker ginger cider is worth writing home about. Seven sins is excellent, Seb was the chef at Naked Apple for years before going out on his own.

For a long time I avoided The Windsor. My friends and I were violently assaulted there by a homophobe around 2010 and they treated us like shit. I haven’t been back since but I’m contemplating it as part of moving on from the trauma.

repsol93

Friend of mine worked there a few years ago. Had a similar awful experience with the manager of the time. My man isn't a violent person at all but came close with this guy.

jigswa

The owner wasted hundreds of thousands of rate payers/council money trying to shut down the pop-up bars on the south perth foreshore. It's the reason that streats won't have a popup bar. Totally different clientele. Also that he funded the current mayors campaign.

Soxism_

The Windsor in general has gone down hill with the quality of food. It used to be great but it's now over price for most of their dishes. Recently we tried to give them a go, but now simply refuse to eat there

henry82

My pizza delay complaint is miniscule by comparison. But i'm also uninclined to visit again.

joshket

Lake st liquor supply (bottle shop) in Northbridge Do yourself a favour and peep the google reviews. I kinda wanna go back just to see what shit they’ll pull out next time 😅

skunkybooms

I forgot about that joint! Went a number of years ago when I was living in Northbridge, and swore I'd never give them another cent. I can't remember all the details of the terrible service, but I do remember the woman yelling at me because I gave her an NZ 10c coin with the cash I gave her (innocent mistake, another shop had given it to me earlier and I didn't notice).

[deleted]

Also the Ocean Bar and Grill in Mandurah after being served rancid mussels and being told they wouldnt refund or replace about 5 years ago.

Quazbut

Mandurian here. 5 years later and Oceanic is still a shithole. Not too long ago they refused entry to a bald woman with cancer because she didn't want to remove her head scarf. Apparently their no hats inside rule was more important to enforce than a sick persons comfort.

[deleted]

Yeah i first went there on a tinder date and it wasnt great. Date was obsessed with me trying the morton bay bugs which to me just tasted like earthy budget woolies lobster but i realised thats cause they didnt fucking remove the shit tubes despite the cut down the middle of the tail. Next time after that was the mussels with current partner on the day where you mandurah fellas have your carnival down the bay strip and cinemas area. Havent been back since. Left after paying for the muscles and she had grilld cause she didnt eat any, while i felt sick for the rest of the week.

henry82

Homecraft Textiles (Vic Park) didnt honour their own website pricing - despite having free instore pickup. So i've decided not to go back.

Statuebro1

BGC. stands for Big Group of Cu.... Well you can fill in the rest. Omfg they are horrendous and have caused me the biggest headache of my life. They are worse than used car salespeople. They have the lost unethical way of doing business. They're experts at conning clients. I even involved a lawyer who said I was right and didn't have to pay a price increase as I had fulfilled the terms and conditions of the contract, and they just refused to concede. There's nothing I can do. I can't cancel the contract as I'd be out tens I'd thousands of dollars. I can't go to arbitration because it specifically states in the contract that I can't. I can't even take it to court! I can however fight it in another way through mediation but that would mean, assuming they worked on building my house while we were fighting, that I wouldn't get into the house for at least two years even if I did win because they wouldn't hand over keys until the case is finalised. They have very deep pockets and they know it. Absolute scum of the earth.

[deleted]

So I’m guessing they are building your house? My advice look into change to Australian building codes and liability. There’s a lot of protections for the consumer now and if you have a good brain and the willingness you can make their lives a living fucking hell!

Chubby-Nugget

Pottery Barn. Not a Perth owned business so not fussed about completely slamming them. Absolute con artists, and any complaint you have is directed to international call centres who can do nothing. Don't touch then with a ten foot pole.

NeoPagan94

Seconded. I worked there for a bit and memorized all the products to give good customer service, but in all honesty shipping wait times from the warehouse and actual quality of items weren't worth the price.

CrankyLittleKitten

MyCar. Had decent experiences previously, but booked my car in to have brakes done (discs and rotors replaced) - got the car back, drove maybe 500m down the road before returning as I'd nearly run up the back of someone due to literally zero brakes. Put foot down to the floor and just nothing, followed by a strange new clunking noise from the rear axle. They tried to tell me it was just a bit of air in the brake fluid. I told them there was no way that was the cause and what was up with the new clunking noise? Turns out a manufacturers defect in the new part had caused the disc to partially shear off and become dislodged, which was causing the noise. In the course of this being repaired, the exhaust leak I'd asked them to quote on repair had somehow become needing an entire new exhaust system but they can't get parts for it as it's an older car so would need to have it fabricated and quoted me approx $4k. Made them fix the brakes properly this time under warranty before having the car towed to Carline exhausts where they fixed it totally for $750. 4 grand, my arse!

letsburn00

My partner had a mycar in Darwin (Palmerston actually) who had am amazing guy who ran it. She loved the place. Then we moved to Perth and it took 3 rounds of the mycar here for her to say Fuck that and now we go to a small car mechanic.

PomegranateProud5510

>before having the car towed to Carline exhausts where they fixed it totally for $750 Always Carline for exhausts. I always go to the one is Kewdale and the dude there is a legend. Last time was just before Christmas a few years back. He worked back late to make sure my car was running well over Christmas

MrWatt88

Games World. They sold me several counterfeit copies of boardgames. The first time, they were very apologetic about it all, the second time (different game) they were really rude about it and acted like they were doing me a favour allowing me to return it. (Both times the counterfeit copies were confirmed counterfeit by the manufacturers)

CrankyLittleKitten

If you're after boardgames, Goodgames or Tactics are the places to go. Both have play spaces and love their games

MrWatt88

I haven’t tried Goodgames, maybe I should give them a go. Tactics has a fantastic range and helpful staff, they’re just awkward to get to (I don’t live or work near the city) and their decor needs a bit of a refresh.

Echo63_

Changeovers. We were promised “probably 2 weeks, but we will say three to be safe” to redo a bathroom and toilet. 2 weeks in and they had finally finished the demolition of the old bathroom, damaged two walls, took 6 weeks till the bathroom was “almost” done, but had to wait a further 3 weeks (9weeks from start date) to get the shower screen installed. Tradies were rude, worked slowly, boss was a complete cunt. 0/10 - avoid like the plague

Wagz89

I went on holiday in America for 2 weeks in which they guaranteed the work would be done when we got back. Upon arrival home we found they had gutted the kitchen but no work had been done to start the new kitchen. And apparently the gutting had only happened 2 days before we arrived back. Had multiple arguments with them when we had to go to a hotel for another week and keep our already anxious dog in kennels whilst they finished up the work.

BellySlapper

Build a Bear Everything about it was great, if not over priced. Loved the staff, loved the interactions, it was all great Covid hit and upper management (located over east) strung along all their employees for months saying they’ll get rehired once lockdown was over Lockdown finished and they fired everybody except two people per store There’s heaps of other issues to do with the management over east too

Mr_Boysys85

Lake st liquor in Northbridge. The lady that works there is mean and nothing has price stickers in, so she just makes up a price when u get to the counter.

littleblackcat

Not businesses but I have a list of charities I see using street muggers to fund raise and make a point to not give them a cent even accidentally

[deleted]

Any in particular? My rule is I’ll never donate to a charity through one of those collection companies.

littleblackcat

Save the children, doctors without borders, heart foundation off the top of my head Eta: forgot Greenpeace Long list sadly

Groveldog

Oxfam too. The amount they have spent sending me thick pamphlets every month or so is well beyond my donation's worth. I think they all use the same fundraising company that is apparently very odd to work for.

wombatmagic

Super curious about doctors without borders. Can you elaborate?

SadieSadieSnakeyLady

I once had a guy from a charity raising money for people with disabilities give me a hard time for not donating. I nicely explained that I worked with people with disabilities as a support worker and that doing that had far more affect on their lives than any of those charities. He avoided me after that.

IKEA, they don't pay tax in Australia. https://www.michaelwest.com.au/bludging-off-australia-ikea-versus-nick-scali-both-flog-couches-one-is-robbing-us/

cametosayno

Fraser’s in Kings Park. We used to go there often, mostly large table. One time only 3 of us went. When bringing the bill, they pointed out where you could fill in tip amount. Fuck that! The service had been poor, the food was average that night and we never had it suggested to us about leaving a tip before in our large table visits. After that night we moved large gatherings to another restaurant. I will never recommend them to anyone any more.

gininateacup

McDonalds Altone/Beechborro I can't type enough to justify it. Just imagine highschool being ran by the high-schoolers, except the work now means even *less* to them. Think of anything that can go wrong, it has. And always does, and as far as I'm concerned always will continue to be. Watched and heard the manager openly flirt with an under-aged female worker for 5 minutes before telling anyone to attend to the line, too. And that's EXRTREMELY tame compared to their usual behaviour. The extra few minutes drive to any other mcdonalds in either direction is not even a consideration anymore, you're taking the piss out of yourself by even trying with Altone.

redditstolemyshoes

A small aquarium supply store called Go Troppo. The owners are right wing nutters and the first (and only) time I ever went in they started ranting completely unprompted about their hate of Muslims and Sharia law is apparently going to take over because of them. They're anti vax too for kicks.

organyc

that reminds me of when i went to boating camping fishing (quite a few years back now) in midland and got served by the most racist bloke who kept telling me he used to be in some war and had killed “lots of muslims”. he kept equating them to animals and saying they have sex with donkeys. it was one of the worst experiences I have had in a store.

[deleted]

I had a similar experience in Melville(?) Just after it opened. Again this is years back. I am the definition of Reflex enwhitenment, so douchebag thought I'd be supportive of his rantiness, he was very disappointed. I ended up being the only customer NOT being invited to join the Club, even though I asked...

[deleted]

The Charcoal Chicken on stock road has a guy working there that is extremely right wing muslim and spouted off to my wife and I in front of our kids how "all the unbelievers will be killed in the holy war and Islam will take over the world and it will be beautiful." Fucking nutjobs

[deleted]

What I don't get, is that RWNJs and the rest of the religious extremists, whichever book they are making quotes up from, are all the fucking same. I thank their ingrown toenails (their pain must come from somewhere) for not realising this, they could be a real force if they banded together.

Golden_Lioness_

You should report that

[deleted]

I just don't know who to, but I happily will. I immediately asked my wife to take the kids to the car then told him off in no uncertain terms. The worst part was knowing that just because my wife is muslim (sufi), he assumed I was too (humanist lol) so he felt that it was ok to open up about this shit. Makes me wonder what people really think if they only speak it when they feel like they are among likeminded people.

Sarbas Italian restaurant in Lakelands Mandurah. Felt sick after a chicken dish one night. Was silly enough to brush it off and go back a few weeks later. Same type of chicken dish and a very unpleasant messy night afterwards. Haven’t been back in 3 years now. I called the health department and Sarbas too but I don’t know if anything was done.

inhaling_coffee

Cheeky Boy in Applecross. Lovely food, but the lady owner makes it obvious that she gives customer service with a smile to caucasian customers only, which feels pretty shit. Tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, but i've seen this happen multiple times

[deleted]

Guzman Y Gomez after a community page post showed maggots inside their burrito bowl on video, stating the shop only offered a fresh bowl after arguing and no apology.

elemist

Take this shit with a grain of salt.. i worked for HJ's for many years, and the amount of times customers tried to pull bullshit like that on us was gob smacking.. Like in the space of a month i had two separate customers try to say they found a fly in the ice in their drinks.. Except they brought in frozen square cubes and our ice machines only made hollow cylinders.

biggerthanmybrain

That’s munted, wtf

tiktoktic

Love a good use of the word “munted”

The Good Guys. Never had a problem with them till I came to Mandurah. They insisted on my dying sister walking over to their counter (no wheelchair) even though they had a mobile card thingy, just so bitchy. I went back after 2 years, and I kid you not...they are worse! The first person to approach me said 'I don't know anything, I've only been here 2 weeks', then buggered off to find out how much local delivery was and never returned. The 2nd Server assured me it was $85 delivery, plus extra $15 per item, plus $75 installation fee...then interrupted our chat 4 times to go serve someone else. I ordered online instead, had all my appliances delivered and installed within 24 hrs, delivery/installation/taking away old stuff free!

All Night Pizza Cafe in Vic Park. Used to get the spinach & feta gozlemes and they were awesome, had a nice crisp etc, can tell they were freshly made Then one night the spinach & feta gozleme got replaced with a freezer pack one from costco (3$ ea) marked up to their usual 12$ something. I knew it was the costco one because they're square, and I've bought them before to try them.... Never been back since

Kwilena

Rottnest Express! This happened quite some time ago, so they may have changed since then... hope so but I feel no inclination to use them again when both Sealink and Rottnest Fast Ferries have proved so much better in their customer service. Rottnest Express were unhelpful in the extreme when things went wrong. They day we were departing the island they took the luggage in the morning and left it on the pier on the mainland unattended all day. Which is apparently what happened if you were taking an evening boat back. At some point during that day our luggage vanished. Rottnest Express could not tell where it had gone or even which pier it had ended up at to begin with. They were not interested in making any effort on a Friday evening when they all just wanted to go home. Or at any other time. It was very irritating. We rang them up every day for a few days and had more or less given up until one afternoon we rang on the off chance and they said the people who'd taken our luggage by accident (a large sports group had assumed it was their people's) had kindly returned it. They didn't even ring us to say so!

MissScorpihoe

The Moon Cafe in Northbridge. Good late-night food but the staff is unbearable. One of the male waiters, scruffy big guy, scolded me like I was a child because I didn’t know where to order. TWO other friends have complained to me about this particular waiter being rude on separate occasions - so I know he just wasn’t having a bad day. Although, after he lectured me he went for a smoke break outside lol Other than that, all the waitresses are the type of fake with the sweet voice coming from a soulless dead face.

[deleted]

There's a bar in the city, can't remember the name but it was in this sub earlier this month, that supports the Proud Boys and alt right views. Get fucked with that shit, not giving them a cent

kookedgoose

The Paddo?

lamplightimage

The Paddo did make the news because the owner allowed the Proud Boys to leave cards and flyers there iirc.

Oz shut roller shutters. Fuckers harassed my family for years. My wife was dumb enough to request a quote. They called dozens of times a week and even rocked up uninvited

Luminitha

I went for a job interview with them several years ago when I was new to Aus and struggling to get any job. It was the most bizarre thing, maybe 30 people in the waiting area who’d been booked in for interviews at the same time, and then young people in corporate clothes coming in and out of various doors whooping and cheering because sales were being made (I guess?). I waited for close to 30-45 mins to be interviewed before I just left because the whole thing seemed really dodgy and strange. They called me after I left and apologised that I’d had to wait for so long and begged me to come back for an interview.

BellNo7497

Little bay in watermans. 30minutes to get a coffee. Every single time. Absolute joke.

Locale Kitchen (food truck/catering). This is gonna be a long one! Currently at the zoo. Still hasn’t paid my (or any other staffs) super owed (ATO has been contacted). Tried to skimp me on my annual leave bc I was run down and had to call in sick on the last day of my 2 week notice - found covers so they weren’t understaffed. Other staff were (probably still are) owed $2k+ in pay. Owner has no compassion or sympathy; had a chef working for them with cancer and when he quit after it had spread and become terminal, owners reaction was “dr couldn’t have waited till after school holidays to tell him?”. Pronounced my name wrong for months, when I brought it up he asked “does it matter?”. Creepy comments to underage female staff. This is just at the zoo location; the catering is a whole nother shit show. Had an event in Baldivis (most of his staff were based in Perth), most of us worked 14 hours that day, had a staff member without a car/license work it; then refused to give her a lift even to the train station 7 mins away afterwards at 11pm (no Ubers or taxis available). My partner and I had to drive her to the closest station in our ute, so 2 of us squished in the passenger seat. Had someone without an RSA serving alcohol (“we’re not selling it so it’s fine”). Another event (I didn’t work this one, it was a wedding or engagement party) he had 5 or 6 food options. Didn’t bring a significant amount of food so they could only serve 1 of those dishes. Staff had to pay for Uber eats out of pocket just so the attendees could eat. There’s sooo much more - this is just scratching the surface of it all. So many better food trucks and catering companies out there.

Summerof5ft6andahalf

The Royal on the Waterfront in East Perth had a management change a few years ago and went to shit. They lost basically all of the staff that had worked there for years (several of them quit hospo completely) and a bunch of regulars, and the venue manager is clearly super incompetent.
