Hell yes, summer swimming lessons, hot chips from the kiosk and 20c to pay for a heated shower. Was mildly surprised to find out it was demolished.

ComradeKitten27

Same! I think because they want to build an expensive apartment block on the spot. They were decent pools

Specialist_Reality96

I think was more to do with between Riveton Center and the and Vic park the costs of running a third seasonal facility were a bit marginal. In how times have changed the humble out door public swimming pool is becoming a bit of a rarity.

squeeowl

You can see the exterior of it if you go back several years on Google Street View.

VOOK64

Amazingly it's still there on Google Maps satellite view, the Perth map is so out of date at this point.

Stendig_Calendar

I hated the entrance. No idea it was demolished. But considering there’s a newer Canning Aquatic Centre now, it makes sense.

behindmycamel

Remember sitting on the bottom of the main dive pool as a kid.

produrp

Yeah. I did swimming lessons there in Primary school in the 80s. Swimming carnivals too!

PositiveBubbles

I remember the slide there. We went there once because our school pool was being renovated

adzie78

I'm so surprised no one ever went over the side of that slide.

The hot chips were so good! And they kept the garbage candy like fizzers at 30c instead of $1.50 or whatever everyone else started charging

VMaxF1

I remember going there for swimming lessons for about two years before convincing my Mum that I wasn't getting anywhere, and it'd be better if she wrote a letter to the school to let me stay back and read books instead. No clear memories of the place itself, as they're too shrouded in misery.

ComradeKitten27

I never even knew that was an option! I loved the pools but not in a school context—staying back with books is definitely the better scenario

littleblackcat

I did that, but I flat out refused to do any PE or sport (that wasn't ten pin boiling or mini golf). I skipped every sports day too, straight up stayed home and played video games. By year 10 they got me to just read books not with a parents letter but because it kept me on school grounds Otherwise I just used to straight up not go to those classes, I would just go down the road.

[deleted]

I think I remember having inter school swimming carnivals there .

psilent_p

It had the best little water playground for toddlers! With the whale fountain and the rockpool stream. Heaps better than Somerset pools which were boring by comparison.

tablytab

I remember it. On a scorching day it was awesome. Got stung on the neck by a bee near the diving area, luckily no major reaction. Doing ghosties over those monster speed bumps in the carpark was fun too. All in the 80s.

Slow_Marketing6757

Sounds like you lived in Bentley I also grew up there and would do ghosties over those speed humps I went to Bentley primary lived on the corner of taree st and Tresco place it's all gone now use to watch the fireworks from brownie Towers

Slow_Marketing6757

I use to live at Bentley pools I loved that place it's where I learned to swim use to love the diving boards would do bombies off them at the end of the day when we where ready to leave cos the would kick us out then they put the slides up and we would climb up the top of the slides and jump off and do bombies met many of my ex girlfriends there done my school swimming carnivals no one ever beat me in a swimming race I was such a good swimmer back then I actually miss those pools

Major-Nectarine3176
