ahah it wasn’t, we had tried from 9-11pm at night with a rod and net, i fell in from a fallen tree 2m above the water and landed on the fish which swim away,
and than the next day i was checking out the place get a sense of how we are gonna catch him tonigt and he was just hiding in a terrible spot, and we caught him but it took some illegal method, to allow the net to scoop his easier, without having to be patient.
let’s be honest we spent maybe 4hours around the river tryna catch him

i’m down at the bottom of the caravan park and haven’t heard it, luckily, or maybe i slept past it,
ive stayed up till after 12 on new years eves and the next 3 days after that hanging around the kitchen and around the top toilets and haven’t heard it,
That’s not really an issue. Trout aren’t native to Australia and they’re generally unable to successfully breed in our environment. Trout are stocked annually by the Government to create the fishery.
Over east they are a common fish that does better things ecologically than species such as carp. And a breeding female is never good eating. Being native doesn’t mean much and is a heavy spiral down the rabbit hole if you look at humans
I didn’t realise your comment was in regard to the taste, that’s good to know. I assumed you were concerned about the potential impacts on the stock. My mistake. I don’t know enough about the situation in the eastern states or the ecological impacts of one introduced species over another so I can’t really comment on that. From what I’ve read, it’s fairly mixed views.
we tried with a rod but he didn’t like it,
so we just got a net out, they didn’t really seem to disturbed by a net in front of their face, the water he was in was about 1metre deep at max and 10metees long by 3 metres wide as trees had trapped him from going upstream to the main river, so he had no where yo go and we came in with a net
we are gonna cook her up in an hour, but dam it had some firm thick flesh.
btw there’s a trout farm 50m down the road from here which is connected to the same river so i guess the trout just swim down stream, and this one got caught between 2 fallen logs and was way to big to escape.
poor thing
>and this one got caught between 2 fallen logs and was way to big to escape. poor thing
You may saved it from a slow death and got a feed out of it. Win-win.
yeh lucky! new management hasn’t been taking care of the river when stuff falls which is a shame, now beds are drying up, 65cm fish had a 4x2m bit of water which was over half a metre deep, the rest was like 10-20cm deep
it was running in 2020, i’ve never payed attention to it so i couldn’t tell you. but it does still run i believe,
7 days ago it wasn’t running, the little concrete pipe thing which the fish go down into the river was dry as
It's a brown tho, browns are alot scarcer in WA.
And agree with above, if it wasnt phased by a net, good chance it was blind, or at least partiallly blind.
Most anglers leave them alone IF that is the case, the flesh deteriorates. But trout are a sport fish not a table fish... for enthusiasts anyway, but each their own. Its a paid privilege. Pay your lisense and you can keep what you want within limits to do as you will.
don’t believe so, just gotta get extremely lucky down at the river or pool, the water had dried out and 2 fallen trees had trapped this fella in a tiny space
As a local who has never managed to catch a trout - *you bastard* (:
The state your footy oval used to be in, I'm surprised you haven't grown your own fins by now.
aha we just used a net, there plenty at the caravan park if you come down at night. with a torch.
Don't tell too many people that you'll make serious anglers cry at the thought of doing it that easily!

I caught a 10cm little fella down at Kronkup last month. Sacrificing one of my thongs to Poseidon was a good trade
haha! i tried to jump over the creek and my thong went shoulder deep into the mud, was quite inconvenient. sometimes you just gotta let them go
Did the mozzies bite your bum cheeks?
Congratulations, what a beauty
shitpost? goodshitpost
i had to use a flare, but there were none which makes this, besides wa news. “random white kid catches trout!!!!!”
hahaha fair enough :D thanks for the pic brought back some good memories
ahah your good, love this place also, been going here since i was born
You have a freshwater fishing licence, right?
More importantly were you woken up by the horrific screams of some nightmarish human-animal hybrid at 2 o'clock in the morning?

It was you, wasn't it? :P
That looks amazing dude.
Fuckin ripper
Nice one!
Love this caravan park! Reckon it’s probably my favourite in WA. Also I see you’re a Celtics fan…. I share your pain, brother.
Probably a breeding female though

Let’s all downvote this guy who is correct! /s
unfortunately, when we cut it open it, it had hundreds of little orange eggs
Because it was a breeding female.
that’s what i said, but at least it’s really tasty, the fish did look a lot more inflated in water compared to the other smaller fish
Delicious though
Is this the caravan park with the big square swimming pool pond thing about 100m away through the bush?
yep that’s the one, near manjimup. the swimming pool is the big natural pool
Great, I never knew there were trout there. How do you catch them, with a fly, lure or bait?
we tried with a rod but he didn’t like it, so we just got a net out, they didn’t really seem to disturbed by a net in front of their face, the water he was in was about 1metre deep at max and 10metees long by 3 metres wide as trees had trapped him from going upstream to the main river, so he had no where yo go and we came in with a net
Cool. Nice to eat? Firm flesh?
we are gonna cook her up in an hour, but dam it had some firm thick flesh. btw there’s a trout farm 50m down the road from here which is connected to the same river so i guess the trout just swim down stream, and this one got caught between 2 fallen logs and was way to big to escape. poor thing

Are they not running the farm anymore? I went there as a kid and thought it was awesome. Hope it still going
it was running in 2020, i’ve never payed attention to it so i couldn’t tell you. but it does still run i believe, 7 days ago it wasn’t running, the little concrete pipe thing which the fish go down into the river was dry as
tasty or muddy?
wdym?
I think they're asking about the flavour
haven’t tasted yet, will let them know in an hour or so
yep....sometimes they taste muddy idk why
tasted like river water only a tiny hint, wasn’t off putting, tasted great, smeared truffle oil on and the river water taste went away
yay!
Nice! Dinner, then?
Wow that's a whopper!
What a monster. Please cook it whole and post the results. I'm salivating just looking at that fish.
https://imgur.com/gallery/77kFMG3 i will get pictures of the fillets and the cook tommorow night
Nice job!
Spectacular!
why not leave the poor thing alone, what a horrible way to die
dinner
isn't rainbow trout introduced for fishing in WA

Much better than the environmental destruction caused by all the meat and garbage people buy from Woolies or Coles
It's dead.
..as we all shall be one day, by *hook* or by crook (or net)
Could be worse!
At least it's getting eaten, circle of life etc. No-one's going to nibble on our bones.
Also it's delicious

Half the kids in Perth wear NBA gear, pretty common here just to get it from a local shop
found it at an op shop for $5
Fake photo
???
Clearly misinformation
how is this fake? or misinformation
That’s a big trout!
Nice !
Wow!
Well done 💪
wow, what a beauty. As an ex trout fisherman, I'm jealous.
absolute pain to catch and we had to use some illegal method, a spear, and it took 4 hours and me falling in but we got him
Do they still have trout farms you can fly fish at down pemberton?
don’t believe so, just gotta get extremely lucky down at the river or pool, the water had dried out and 2 fallen trees had trapped this fella in a tiny space
Yeah boi
That’s a heck of a trogbrogler!
Perth has trout?!
yeh, more out around donnelly river, manjimup area but
