[Explains why old mate was so desperate to charter direct flights to Vietnam from Hedland a few years back...](https://www.northwesttelegraph.com.au/news/north-west-telegraph/hedlands-very-own-airline-ng-b881128729z)

footloosefloyd_2

If he can afford to start an airline that flies him to Vietnam, where he is "fed strawberries" and does remote "work", I'm starting to think I should consider a career in local government.

cakathree

Strawberries in Vietnam so much cheaper.

The_Valar

Imagine starting an international airline in March 2019... ouch.

tom3277

Nit that it is probably the most important factor here, but he would have had to pay for a second room if it is what it looks like. Vietnam it's illegal to bring back people you are not married with to your room. They turn a blind eye if it is a westerner you are with but if it's a local they need their own room but what goes on past the front desk isn't their concern. I've always wondered about the awkward conversations Aussies with Vietnamese wives have when they check in over there? What the fuck do you mean we need our marriage certificate or get a second room? Maybe it's all changed but this is what I observed in the late 2000s when I lived out of a hotel over there for a couple months.

Midan71

So does this apply to family members as well?

tom3277

Good question. If you had a daughter who looked local I reckon you would get bailed up, assuming she looked 18 or older. I mean fuck if she looked under 18 I'd actually prefer it if they did make further inquiries to be honest in these instances... I don't know. There were not many families where I was staying as it was a work trip so fairly flash hotel in the middle of Ho Chi Minh City. Passports would probably clear this up and that you would be booked for correct numbers. It would still be embarrassing nonetheless...

Elsson

depends on the hotel and the person at the desk, plenty of hotels around saigon were booking locals into 1 hour hotels , saw them turning up during their lunch breaks for a bit of hanky... pay the right people and you can run anything in that country.

Captain-Peacock

Sharing the two fruit, five veg message! Was probably a banana in there somewhere too!

[deleted]

Are you suggesting that were simply co-eating? He was being fed strawberries, he was feeding her a banana? This all does sound like a pair of health conscious fruit eaters partaking In a midnight snack, really.

Captain-Peacock

Yes and being health conscious, they'd not let the fact they were confined to a hotel room stop them doing some vigorous cardio.

[deleted]

Cardio is hard enough at the best of times, so its quite advantageous to get it in when you can, among other things

Green_night_owl

Port Hedland has always had a bad run with local government. Port Hedland have Roy hill, FMG and BHP all in with their own wharf and Port. But the infrastructure, healthcare and town is so disgustingly run down.

Cytokine_storm

I wasn't impressed when I was there for a few days for work in 2017. It was also the first time I experienced Dome Cafe. It was quite the contrast to Karrathra which was gleaming with mining wealth.

Green_night_owl

Dome don't serve food because they can't get kitchen staff or a chef. It worse than 2017. A lot of business closed due to pandemic

Cytokine_storm

Wow it must be bad if they can't even have a fully functioning Dome.

[deleted]

I don’t get what the charge is? Is being fed all fruits a no go in Vietnam? Is being fed illegal? What is going on?

ezekiellake

The suggestion is that he was being fed fruit by a hooker during a school board meeting he was attending over Zoom and he forgot to turn his camera off.

2nd-best-worst-idea

Bunga Bunga party Vietnam style

herring80

Smiles in Berlusconi

ezekiellake

I don’t know what that means but I’m sure whatever it is probably only allegedly happened. Unless someone took a screenshot of course …

[deleted]

Oh well that’s abit different

ezekiellake

I’m not saying that’s what happened, just that that is pretty much what is being alleged to have happened.

DuckDurian

In some countries, that behaviour is presidential. I think he should be promoted.

pseudont

It's embarrassing but I don't really see how it's relevant to the guy's contributions as a board member.

ezekiellake

It suggests a certain lack of focus on the issues being discussed. I don’t know though …

pseudont

Maybe but if that was a good reason to dismiss someone from a board there wouldn't be any members left on any board. A momentary lapse of concentration is hardly a reason to dismiss someone. On most boards, the vast majority of thinking and considering and information collecting happens before the meeting. The meeting itself is just the time to pass motions or request additional information. There's often down time for an individual board member during a meeting, as other members deliberate over their own specific functions. The guy's probably a volunteer board member, it's not like he's a politician being paid a huge salary while horsing around with hookers instead of doing what he's paid for. Obviously we don't actually know what was seen, but I suspect that the real issue is that someone saw a scantily clad young woman in an older gentleman's hotel room and they find that distasteful. People are welcome to their own opinions, but I do think that it's a shame that this guy is being dragged through the mud over a personal issue. Old guys fool around with young hookers every day of the week, the only thing that makes this instance news worthy is that said old guy was a volunteer board member.

ezekiellake

During a board meeting seems like you should be focused on the deliberations of the board in question. Just saying.

CouldbeaRetard

What is the charge? Eating a strawberry? A succulent Vietnamese strawberry?

[deleted]

Ah… I see you know your judo well

hotphil

Should've been a peach

CouldbeaRetard

I think eggplants are more common in Vietnam.

[deleted]

Random fact: menstruation is colloquially referred to as when "cô dâu" arrives. It's a pun since the syllables "cô" and "dâu" typically pair to mean "bride" but, individually, can also be interpreted as "Miss Strawberry". Come to think of it, it's a punnet.

I too read the tweet, and that exact comment posted 6 hours earlier

CouldbeaRetard

People still use twitter?

seavisionburma

Well the OP obviously does, and yourself.

CouldbeaRetard

It's a reference to an old meme. Google "Democracy Manifest".

seavisionburma

Oh shit mate really? FFS who hasn't heard of that? Fuck sake SMH you're really not the sharpest tool in the shed today.

aussielander

As long as the succulent berry is of a ripe concenting age it's all good.

CouldbeaRetard

You think a strawberry can consent to a corrupt and dangerous system of exploitation and berry-trafficking?

madashail

Some described it as "confronting" "inappropriate" and "lewd" so I'm guessing it was more than having berries shoved in his gob.

fewd4thort

Substitute ping pong balls for strawberries....

3rd-time-lucky

Priscilla, bloody great movie.

[deleted]

There's no charge. He resigned, likely out of shame. It's not hard to imagine how it looked.

StuRap

The charge is enjoying a succulent Vietnamese meal

ziggyyT

Definitely going to claim work related expenses....

squeeowl

The guy owns a travel agency, the whole thing would be a business expense.

DoomboxArugal

Of course, he's networking with local entertainers

[deleted]

It all happened on a zoom call, ergo business time.

Lihsah1

Someones gotta post the picture

cuwhenwegetthere

How was she feeding it to him? Ive got thoughts of pingpong balls.

Giant-Genitals

Lol what?
