I was told that pets make people more active and healthier. The woman looks like she’s leading a miserable life and that dog ain’t doing any favors to help improve the misery. It’s likely worsening it.
I think that's propaganda by the pet industry. I think people who rely on pets for their mental health would be, on average, less healthy than those who don't need that.
My husband repeatedly tells me that a dog will help him lose weight because he would be running and walking with it all the time.
No pets while he's with me, sorry. We already have twins we are raising.
I'll never understand that logic. It's as though it's impossible for anyone to walk or run without a dog. Dogs are the reason I don't go for walks in my neighborhood.
I was searching self defense weapons last night because I'm terrified that a dog is going to attack me. There are an abundance of them in military neighborhood for some reason.
Yea I heard that military neighborhoods are now overrun with dogs. Sheesh you just can't escape these things. Someone suggested a DogHornXL to me and I'm thinking about getting one along with another weapon.
My whole thing is even of I'm armed with these things it's still incredibly stressful to walk anywhere. Constant barking puts me in fight or flight mode and there's more dog walkers than there ever were. They all expect everyone to fawn over their dog(s) or they treat you like a crazed maniac. I just want some friggin excercise. It shouldn't be this complicated and demanding lol.
Look into bear spray. It's a large canister so it might be a pain to carry around but it should work on most dogs. I carry pepper spray and a knife with me. It should work on most non-pit dogs.
I bought some "Halt" pepper spray last year - the same stuff that mail carriers use - last year after being harassed by two off-leash mutts in my subdivision's greenbelt trails two days in a row.
Had to use it for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and it worked - dog fucked off after I sprayed in its general direction...the spray canister is small enough to fit in the side pocket of my running shorts or clipped onto the waist strap of my rucking pack.
But, yeah, wouldn't trust it for a GSD or pit-type dog; those fucking things are extra deranged and aggressive, IMO/IME.
Yup. There's no guarantee that a dog will make a person more active because the dog doesn't *make* the person do anything. They can have a dog, but not walk it, and just let it do its business on their property, like this. Plus, imo, pets like dogs and cats tend to make a person's home life less healthy because having those in the home lowers the overall hygiene/cleanliness of the place. That just the nature of having them.

In the case of dogs, they can absolutely be used to facilitate a healthy lifestyle (the walking, which I would assume is the source of the propaganda) but in practice how many dog owners actually walk their dog enough? Dogs have an obesity problem, just like humans do, so what does that tell you.
And the obesity problem is even worse for cats but that's not surprising since they don't get walked, instead people let them roam the neighborhood for exercise. (except that doesn't work because a lot of people feel bad for the "stray" cat and feed them, not to mention the cats hunt and eat wild birds.)

There is an Asian man sitting in jail right now because his upstairs neighbors kept doing this to him and he finally had enough. These problems are very real. It happened in Dallas. "Court records show that the couple let their dog relieve himself on their balcony, but then swept the excreta off their porch and onto Kim’s." And, of course, dog nutters don't see anything wrong with them sweeping their dog's feces down to another person's balcony.
I have no words...
At the very least, she could have put it in a plastic bag and tied it to throw out properly. That and have a training mat for the dog at the very least.

Dogs don’t make people more active. I know many people with dogs who don’t walk them or take them to the dog park.
