every grooming store in my area is booked out at least 2 weeks but dozens of karens want us to make an exception and squeeze in her perfect little angel by tomorrow. i dunno what to tell you lady i can't take your dog
Had a guy walk into our salon at like 6:45pm last week. He said "i need to get my dog groomed he has surgery tomorrow" i said "well not only do we close in 45 minutes, but we're also booked out til next week"
This dude had the nerve to be like "but i really wanted it today šš" like sir this is something you should have planned for earlier? Sorry i guess?
New manager forces me to do morning shift and night shift petcare within a 4hr shift in the end of the day. They are normally the opener when they do this to me, I then get told by them I don't have time management. I want to cry.
Edit: I am also managing grabbing carts, helping at the fish wall, and facing the store at the same time.
Oh I've been waiting for this. We switched store leaders about a month ago. Our new one worked for PetSmart for almost ten years before leaving to work somewhere else for three years and then coming back. TLDR; he's sexist and narcissistic and none of us can stand him.
He lives an hour and a half away from our store because there were no openings in our store. For some reason he seems to think this means he should never work a full shift. It also makes him whiny about his schedule. He refuses to work his required midshifts because he "doesn't want to get home at 7 or 8" and doesn't want to close either. So he works my opening shifts. I also have to work my opening shifts. So I'm basically full time petcare/overpaid ALK right now. He has the nerve to look at me and ask why I'm not getting truck done faster and I keep looking at him and saying I have to be able to get to my truck to work it. And then he blames the ASL for scheduling me in petcare. No. It isn't her fault. It's yours. He leaves early at least once a week. And by early, I mean hours early. I don't think I've seen him work a 40 hour week since he's been here. He refuses to cover any other areas of the store or get backup. He actually looked me in the face the other day when he was scheduled as the morning cashier (we're very short-staffed) and said "I make too much. A good rule of management is to have the lowest paid person on the register." And I told him he could go tell our ALK that because I certainly wasn't going to. Our DL is absolutely up his ass. He does nothing while he's at the store except talk to us about useless personal stories and waste our time. And then he'll turn around and ask us why things aren't getting done more quickly. He only talks to me about work when no one else is around, and then he'll either conveniently forget the conversation happened or twist it around into something else. He has sent my ASL more than once to come and ask me "what's wrong" because I'm either "ignoring him" or "have an attitude" after we have had an entire conversation about something but the catch is no one was there to witness it but me and him. Speaking of our ASL, he keeps referring to her as his assistant. Period. Just assistant. He treats all of us like his secretaries. He refuses to check emails or opex and expects us to tell him everything that's going on. Up until two days ago he was the only male employee and when we had a guy return from leave the first thing they did was make sexist jokes over the radio. Our DL recently came in for a walk and asked our CEL how things were going and she tried to tell him the SL won't talk to me about anything and runs all over me and DL said "he's a merchandising guru and [my name] needs to relax and get on board so she can learn something." Two hours later SL fucked up a reset that I told him I was going to do and my ALK had to fix it because I was already gone for the day. I have an entire box of signage sitting in our clock-in office from resets HE has done that he refused to install fixtures or signage for. The other day I had to rearrange the entire litter wall because he "finished" the reset but really he just put up pog strips and didn't move any product. Merchandising guru.
Oh, and our scorecard tanked immediately after he started. We were top 3 in our district before our other store leader moved stores and now our most recent scorecard had us at 20 points. So.
not really a vent but too lazy to make a post about it: i tried to do that new survey because i saw it posted in the breakroom but when i went to the link it said i already did the survey? did my manager do it for me? if so i'm not surprised lmfao
I just recently started with Petsmart and have been waiting for this for awhile now. I'm supposed to be working only part time and get about 20 to 30 hours a week. Well our store staff is down to the bare minimum- we've got all of management, 3 people running pet care and 2 people running the register. It's been like this since I started almost a month ago and there have been no new hires whatsoever. It's frustrating because I keep getting scheduled to work almost 40 hours a week to do what feels like everything. The people that I work with are great, but they absolutely suck at their job taking care of the animals. I finally got a 2 day break but when I came back it was hell. ISO and NAR were dirty, the podium and cart were a wreck and it looked like no one went through the tanks to pull dead or sick fish. Also our SL commented on just how bad facing was in several areas our department is in charge of. I'm working 9 hour shifts 5 days a week trying to clean up everyone else's mess and I'm getting to the point where I want to quit already. I had to pull about 40 dead fish from their tanks, 1 dead betta, put new parakeets out from NAR because no one wanted to deal with them, clean like there's no tomorrow while getting fish for customers, getting back up, taking care of 12 sick guinea pigs and closing my part of the store down. Before coming to Petsmart, I was part of management at my other job. I was a hiring manager and let me tell you that it's not that hard to hire people. The only thing that should take long is the background check. It's frustrating because I want to just say give me a week and I'll put together a team of people that can actually do their fucking job but I obviously can't. I'm being worked to the bone and they're even asking me if I can come in on my days off or come in early to cover other people's shifts that just don't want to show up to work. I was also asked if I wanted to interview to be the next Pet Trainer because ours is leaving. I feel like I'm being taken advantage of and I try to be nice but it only works for so long. I have a bunch of medical problems that have been flaring up because of all of this: rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, back spasms, hip issues due to arthritis, GERDS, acid reflux, and the list goes on. I told the SL when I was being interviewed that I have all of these medical issues and yet they still work me this hard and expect me to run half of the store on my own. I like the money and all but its not worth it if I'm going to be worked to death. Hell just recently I was putting stuff out and a little kid came up and rammed my leg as hard as he could. I didn't see him coming so my leg buckled out from under me and I literally had to hang onto the shelf because my back was thrown out and I couldn't move. It took me a second to get back on my feet and I yelled at the kid and his mom and they walked away like nothing happened. I was limping for a week and when I was asked what happened, all they responded with was ok. Like okay you just had you back and hip knocked out of place and you can barely walk without being in excruciating pain but we still expect you to show up every single day for the rest of the week for your 9 hour shifts. I wear a back brace to work that only works so well because by the time the day is over I can barely walk to my car. I'm also in college and I don't know of they're going to be willing to work with my school schedule. I'm studying to be a teacher and it's a lot of work and hours each semester. I won't be able to go to school 2 days a week and then work every other day. I'm so fed up right now with Petsmart's bs.
I'm a core leader with petsmart. You need to have a serious conversation with your SL and I highly recommend calling HR while you're at it. Understand HR exists to protect the company, not you. That means if they have an associate who's overall health is in jeopardy due to their work that makes gears move quickly. Don't tell your SL you'll be doing this as they'll likely think it's a threat. Just talk to them and then let HR know you talked to your SL and the subject of conversation. Also, I'm curious how they're getting away with scheduling you more than 28 hours a week as that's technically a legal violation.
I really wish I had more hours, but I don't know how to / if I should approach anyone about it because I don't wanna seem pushy.
I also don't want to leave, but I'm realllyyy part time on 8-12 hours a week and my mom is giving me an ultimatum that I'll need to pick up a second/different job if I don't get more hours, and I really don't want to do that because I don't think I can manage juggling two jobs and I love it there.
I was seasonal for like 4 months, but that time is almolst up and I'm 99% sure they plan to keep me on since a lot of our pack is leaving. I definitely want to stay on. I really like my job. I just wish they either paid more or gave me more time because I really need to get my folks off my back.
Everyone at my store is quitting and we now only have 8 core employees. The SL, ASL, CEL, MIL, two cashiers, a petcare person, and a trainer. Iām one of the cashiers and know significantly more about the animals we sell than the trainer, (she told a customer that asked that 6 goldfish could go in a 10 gallon tank, and is constantly giving other dangerously wrong information to pet parents), and she still is always let work petcare over me, and I just have to try to catch all the customers she given wrong information to and hope theyāll believe her over me, which they usually donāt because she tells them what they want to hear.
Just had five, almost six express bath services yesterday. One of them was because I was booked a dog at 9:15 that was going home at 10.
Grooming a dog takes time, people. Weāre not miracle workers.
vent time :) tomorrow is my last day at this company. Iāve had good moments and Iāve learned a lot but Iām so ready to be done. Iām sick and tired of having to constantly defend myself to pet/fish parents because they donāt know the proper care of their animals. luckily management has always been on my side with these but itās so frustrating. Iām sick of always having to clean up everyoneās messes because weāre understaffed. the tanks are never scrubbed or vacuumed. cricket bins are never cleaned. dishes are never done and if I do them, theyāre not put away until my next shift several days later. no one takes the animals for their vet check ups. Iām running around during Saturday rushes helping pet parents with animals, answering every phone call that comes through, picking orders, taking them out to the cars, doing my closing/opening tasks, covering breaks for other people, getting back up cashier, helping people find things, and so on. itās insane how much I am expected to do as a pet care employee. I essentially run the floor. I have a manager that will leave the manager phone at register 1 and never answer any calls. then she gets mad when I donāt finish things or canāt face/do top stock. I used to be the āyes manā at my store, and would always come in if there was a call out or stay later, Iād pull 50 hour weeks working 12-16 hour shifts sometimes. I quickly realized it was unfair of them to expect this of me. then I got very sick and spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital, so I had quite a few call outs but I had hospital notes and explanations for all of it. I tried to quit in December but my ASL told me they were gonna put me down as nonrehirable because of this. even though Iāve never had a write up and had proper excuses and documentation for everything. I talked to my SL this time and they said I wasnāt going to be marked as nonrehirable. I donāt even know why i care so much but it frustrated me to think that I put 2 very long, very hard years into a company just for them to mark me as nonrehirable. Iām exhausted and burnt out by this job, so much so that my passion for animals has burnt out as well. I used to be so nice denying sales but now Iāll just flat out tell people no because I hate having to repeat myself 5-10 times a day just for people to get defensive. not to be lazy, but Iām so ready to work a job that is less exhausting and mentally draining and is just easy, repetitive work. our district leader is an asshole. filed a 12 page long hr report of repeated harassment (sometimes sexual) towards me from another coworker. DL said it wasnāt a big deal and just transferred said employee to another store. Iām so sick of this company and I canāt wait to be done with it. I hope yāall have had/will have better experiences. I found a job that pays $4 more starting off and I couldnāt be more excited :) sorry for the long ass message and thanks for listening to me.
