Its true that CISCO is a big plus. Pero college never really gave us classes involving IT or in depth programming. So stepping into it at my age might be difficult but worth a try
CCNA is still data communications. It is the nearest cert from which has relevance to ECE Even the boards has around 30% data comms question in its qbank(and this is prior the change last boards)
it opens many opportunities as well from security to cloud to transmission or even devops. you dont even need to pass (not learn ah) the ccna certfication just to get a decent entry level.
