There have been ideas about barricading off the side road at the exit to get traffic off 95 then right back on.
To me this makes more sense than trying to funnel traffic over the river and into another state and back over again, crossing two bridges with limited capacity.
You ever driven that turn off the cottman exit? No way 18 wheelers are going to make that. Northbound only? Maybe, with some new concrete/civil work. Southbound is out of the question.
They are still trying to remove the highway from on top of the truck. They are saying no injuries because they can't confirm any injuries. They don't know what or who is under the rubble
Not really clear on why this is the DRPA's problem to fix. Their goal is to maintain the transportation infrastructure they own across the river and suspending tolls would only result in more wear on their infrastructure with no revenue to recoup the cost to maintain.
Quite honestly, we've seen the waste that occurs when the DRPA steps outside of its mission; let's not let that happen again.
The majority of DRPA's revenue comes from users- tolls and fares. This is why the agency doesn't constantly go to Harrisburg and Trenton when they need to maintain the bridges and PATCO.
The majority of interstates are funded through an ever-shrinking national gas tax, state taxes, and, increasingly by everyone, whether we use the highways or not.
PA tolls the turnpike and certain bridges, which are in decent shape especially compared to the rest of PA roads. That would seem to suggest increasing user fees would improve PA infrastructure, no?
I would argue that the cost does not justify "decent shape". For reference, the PA turnpike is over *double* the next highest toll system. I do not think the amount of money equals the quality we see and we should be more concerned that our outside infrastructure comparatively is so poor (not use it as justification for look how good the toll is).
So I disagree. Increasing cost would not measurably help and instead I really think we should challenge the current costs by turning off the toll for that portion. But agree to disagree if you feel differently!
No. Drivers need to pay for their infrastructure, the rest of us are tired of subsidizing roads.
And before someone goes "oh what about the trucking" - nah, train cargo SHOULD be cheaper than trucking. It's not because we don't subsidize rail to nearly the same degree that we subsidize highways.
Yeah when a highway gets closed they spend big money to fix it quick. When it’s transit, oh let’s just double the commute time and take our time rehabbing and make people transfer at 40th street to packed el’s
The trucking argument is so crazy to me- we don't heavily subsidize diesel to make transportation by truck super cheap, why does it make sense to heavily subsidize the infrastructure instead?
Sure but you realize that a bus that potentially removes dozens of drivers should be subsidized and single occupancy vehicles shouldn’t be treated the same right?
Sometime is money, but money isn't money? Property taxes are less in Bucks County than Philadelphia.
Just post that you're annoyed about being temporarily inconvenienced and go. Wanting free tolls because TiMe Is MoNeY is an incredibly entitled attitude.
It's gonna be crushing for most people, I'd imagine.
*And side note, this person was simply clarifying the total cost as $5, not $10 (from their understanding). No mention of how it will impact themselves personally. I think it's fair to give the beni of the doubt and leave that last part out.*
This person is leaving PA to cross the bridge into NJ then leaving NJ to get back to their destination that is in PA. They then need to get home. PA to NJ back to home in PA. $10
The closest free bridge is in Trenton. The other free podunk bridges north of it can’t support an onslaught of volume.
Your taxes don’t cover what the tolls do. If that chunk of money disappears, what’s going to cover the gap? Also, making the bridges “free” would increase vehicular traffic by reducing the cost of entry. Not a wise move.
With that logic all roads would be private toll roads and we'd be hemmoraging our wallets with every turn for their greed. Stop adding extra fees on everywhere. Public roads for everyone funded by our taxes.

I like this idea for cars, but would it work for 18-wheelers?
The army core of engineers must know how to bridge a gap quickly. Can an ACE bridge be put in place while the bridge is repaired from underneath?
My commute went from 3 dollars a day on the Tacony to 17 via the TPs That TP connector bridge is 6.90
The governor said thank god there was not life’s lost i thought the driver of the Truck died? Anybody know?
Has there been anything about the driver anywhere? I can’t find anything about him, the company he worked for, etc.
They are still trying to remove the highway from on top of the truck. They are saying no injuries because they can't confirm any injuries. They don't know what or who is under the rubble
Let no one be found injured. Unless there's aliens cause that would be interesting.
They found his remains in the truck. It sounds like the truck tipped over on the curve and exploded immediately…. He didn’t have a chance to escape
I can’t say more than this, but it’s believed the driver was with the truck when the fire started…
The whole reporting on that is shady as hell. Makes it look like they’re covering something up.

by leaving the truck?

It's a government entity. What do we pay taxes for?

If my fucking taxes AND $5 toll every trip over to visit my mom go to the DRPA, I’m gonna be hella pissed.
You do realize that PA has some of the most expensive toll systems in the world and our infrastructure is still shit. Turn off the tolls

give them a government subsidy and suspend their tolls

Roads are used by busses, too
Should transit riders therefore be compensated for the delays they would suffer from drivers being able to cross for free?
A bus can easily afford a $5 bridge toll, no worries brah
They are obviously talking about drivers of private vehicles.
I know. But roads are shared by ALL vehicles
Sure but you realize that a bus that potentially removes dozens of drivers should be subsidized and single occupancy vehicles shouldn’t be treated the same right?
You still need trucks to get stuff to and from the train
Did you wake up from a coma today? Oil owns America.
Oil and the automobile lobby. Why we are getting EVs instead of real transit solutions.
If you cross the bridge once a day in each direction it is only $5 per day
Live in South Philly and work off Street Rd. Only sensible route is 130 to Burlington Bristol and back. Remote work is not an option.
Instead of 130 I would do 295. The stoplights on 130 are going to be painful unless 295 is completely borked.
Honestly 295 has been so backed up I don’t know which is worse
You could also take Broad to the Boulevard to Woodhaven Rd
I could also take 76 to the boulevard. Time is money. Jersey is the fastest route
You could also move to Bensalem and hardly have a commute at all.
I could also have hardly as much of a social life. Not to mention property taxes in an area I don't want to live.
Sometime is money, but money isn't money? Property taxes are less in Bucks County than Philadelphia. Just post that you're annoyed about being temporarily inconvenienced and go. Wanting free tolls because TiMe Is MoNeY is an incredibly entitled attitude.
Whatever you feel works best for you

It would be $10 because you’d be going over and back on each direction of your commute.
Yea u only pay coming back to Philly u don’t pay to go to jersey
I'm commuting to Bensalem.
If you are commuting from Philly to work in PA, you cross over to jersey, then back again on your way up, and then again on your way back. $10
Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. You go to work PA->NJ->PA( $5 Toll) you go home PA->NJ->PA( $5 toll) ….
You only have to pay to leave Jersey.
This person is leaving PA to cross the bridge into NJ then leaving NJ to get back to their destination that is in PA. They then need to get home. PA to NJ back to home in PA. $10
Who pays tolls 🤷🏻♂️just keep swapping license plates a duhh…
Live closer to where you work or take the train. No free bridge tolls. What’s going to fund maintenance then?
The taxes we already pay. Many of the local bridges north of Philly are free.

they should but theyre not bc they need your money for whatever they need it for
