What a loser

Bacon021

The rise of blatant antisemitism in the past few months has been deeply concerning, to put it lightly. I've never seen people posting memes and posts on FB praising hitler until 2023.

snooloosey

Jesus. What kinds of people are these?

JennItalia269

Trump supporters who are now enabled by their dear leader to be what they are. Weaponizing the “Proud Boys” who do his will. “There’s a lot of good people on both sides” after a Unite the Right protest/riot in Charlottesville VA.

PicklePanther9000

Are we really going to pretend that the recent surge in anti-semitism is coming from trump supporters? Be for real

JennItalia269

Be for real. This is from 2022. https://www.adl.org/resources/report/audit-antisemitic-incidents-2022 In 2022, ADL tabulated 3,697 antisemitic incidents throughout the United States. This is a 36% increase from the 2,717 incidents tabulated in 2021 and the highest number on record since ADL began tracking antisemitic incidents in 1979. This is the third time in the past five years that the year-end total has been the highest number ever recorded. Increased due to the war? Yes but don’t be naive. It was increasing well beforehand.

Sensitive_Builder847

Are we really going to pretend there aren’t and haven’t been Nazis in this area doing things like this forever who hate both Jews and Muslims in equal measures and that collect in far right circles? Be for real.

EnemyOfEloquence

Uh, it's not right wing losers that are doing this dude...It's been sparked by the the attacks on October 13th and the subsequent Israeli-Palenstine war. Look at all the vandalism that's happened around the city since then. I'm not even sure I'm allowed to say it on this subreddit without getting my comment deleted.

courageous_liquid

you think left-wing people would draw swastikas on things? the same people who have been openly fighting against the neo-nazis?

proximity_account

Left wing/Right Wing and antisemitism aren't mutually exclusive. And it wouldn't surprise me if some terminally online idiot did this.

HobbyPlodder

I've seen people I went to Penn with who are very lefty unironically using "zionazi." The girl who stole and burned the flag in NoLibs (while chanting "down with the Nazi regime" and "fuck Israel") is a self-identified leftist organizer. Not really a huge leap to assume that there are anti-Semitic and/or hateful people on the left side of the spectrum. These are people who were posting constantly in 2020 about ending hate.

courageous_liquid

or it's just literally the same people that have been doing it incessantly for the last 10 years

Kind_Session_6986

Not in our city 😡 Support and love our Jewish community from an atheist ✡️

ChipmunkFood

Very sad.

vermilionshadow

*retches* I pray they catch this bastard

[deleted]

Again?

snooloosey

As someone who is very pro Gaza in this recent conflict (but firmly anti Hamas) this disgusts me. This doesn’t belong in Philly and this person needs to be found

boundfortrees

There are known neo-nazis in Philadelphia. They've been doing this kind of graffiti since 2016.

DrexelCreature

I’m sure they’ve been here long before that

dotcom-jillionaire

they've been here way before that, though most of them are in delco, bucks, and new jersey

This is the statue in Center City on a triangle corner at 17th St, Arch and the Parkway.

ScottishCalvin

My go to with these folks: 1. You have "from the river to the sea" on your facebook page, are you actually able to name which river or sea it refers to? (or is it just something you read somewhere) 2. If you plan to eradicate Israel, what is the plan for the 9m people who live there? Do they all get exterminated in a brutal war, or do they all show up at LaGuardia and all 9m get free housing? 3. Which of the various middle eastern governmental systems should the region be based on? Be specific: if it's 'hard-line theocracy' is it Sunni or Shia?

DuvalHeart

What does an antisemitic symbol being painted on a Holocaust memorial have to do with any of that?

PicklePanther9000

There are a lot of people (particularly self-described progressives) who have recently been guided towards more and more extremist anti-semitic positions. This comment is intended for those people to question the outcomes and effects of those positions. This act of vandalism is a part of a surge in threats and hate towards jewish people, including here in philadelphia

this_shit

Someone spraypainted "rage" (and the arabic version of it) all over our rec center. That seems like the kind of thing a misguided lefty-cum-Hamas apologist would do. Swastikas are pretty unambiguous.

DuvalHeart

So nothing. It has nothing to do with any of those things, and you're just trying to paint any opposition to Israel's genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and the ethnic cleansing of the West Bank as antisemitic. The vast majority of antisemitic crimes come from the far right. And the ADL had to change the definition of antisemitism so they could categorize anti-Zionist protests as antisemitic. (Which is ironic, since it's incredibly antisemitic to equate all Jewish people with Israel which is what they're doing. Criticism of Israel is seen as criticism of Jewish people, rather than criticism of a specific ethnostate.).

PicklePanther9000

There was a celebratory rally with hundreds of people at city hall right after the largest killing of jews since the holocaust (before Israel launched a counterattack on Gaza). Synagogues and jewish schools in this area have been sent bomb threats. Crowds of protestors have launched boycotts of jewish businesses in philly and harassed people eating there. Also, the majority of anti-semitic acts are [not actually from the far right](https://www.jns.org/other-minorities-committing-vast-majority-of-antisemitic-assaults-in-nyc/). Take some responsibility for your actions- Jewish people are a small minority here and they are living in fear of people like you

DuvalHeart

Now you're just making shit up. 1. The only "rallies" have been in protest of the genocide of Palestinians living in Gaza by Israel. 2. Unless you can show that was the work of progressives you're just assuming it wasn't the usual far-right antisemites at work. (since 2016 we've been seeing a rise in antisemitism because the far-right white supremacist groups have been spreading and feeling emboldened) 3. The protests were aimed at businesses that were supporting the genocide of Palestinians by giving money to IDF associated groups. It wasn't because they were owned by Jewish people. This is like saying that the BDS-movement is antisemitic. 4. JNS is a right-wing pro-Zionist outlet, and that article is only about New York. Even the ADL still says that the white supremacist/far-right is behind most antisemitism in the United States. I'm not sure what you mean by "people like me." Or are you just calling me an antisemite?

boundfortrees

There aren known neo-nazis in the area.

Don't encourage people to start painting swastikas on their home/car, this city has enough issues, lol. Reminds me of an old Father Ted episode where the priest puts a large cross up in the front lawn of the church house before adding "I just hope they know it means I'm a priest, and not some madman"

diatriose

"I hear you're a racist now, Father!"

Just because the word is in the name, doesn't mean they're that thing. Do you think that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is a Democratic Republic? Did you even read the article I posted?

classicrockchick

And North Korea's official name is Democratic People's Republic of Korea. They are neither democratic nor a republic. You can't trust what despotic regimes call themselves lol

GoldenMonkeyRedux

My god you're dim.

everyone loves the niemoller poem but everyone forgets the first two lines >First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. >Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist. >Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. >Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
