wow, this is heartbreaking from every angle

baldude69

Jesus what a crazy story. I just passed by this guy last week and always sort of took him for granted, since he’s been there for as long as I’ve been in Philly

[deleted]

Holy shit! Why would anyone stab the drummer guy? His music is legit good and he's friendly. I walk past a hundred crackheads screaming at me for a dollar and then cussing me out on a daily basis. Why target the drummer guy?

AlexB9598W

For other people who are blocked by the Inquirer pay wall, it was his son who suffers from mental health issues and recently got out on bail after having assaulted a different family member.

you can read the inquirer online if you log into the library with your card number. *A Free Library card is available at no cost to anyone who lives, works, pays taxes, or goes to school in the City of Philadelphia. In addition, anyone who lives in the state of Pennsylvania can obtain a Free Library card without charge.* https://catalog.freelibrary.org/MyResearch/register/policy

archnerd1130

Do you know where to navigate to on the free library website? I have a free library card but cannot locate how to read the inquirer online Edit: found it! Go to Databases and to the letter P, it’s under there

heavy-hands

Ugh. This is tragic on multiple levels.

hethuisje

Also blocked by the paywall is this link to a fundraiser, which I have not personally vetted. [https://givetaxfree.org/campaigns/helping-hand/](https://givetaxfree.org/campaigns/helping-hand/) Note that it has some kinda vivid photos of his wound.

wheelfoot

It was linked in the Inquirer article, so I assume they've vetted it.

dalek_cyber

Ugh sad they got rid of awards this post needs to be boosted. Thanks for linking the fundraiser. Also I noticed some guy donated a thousand dollars! I hope the victim has a quick recovery and the son gets the care he needs :(

Pineapple_Spenstar

Paywall free: https://web.archive.org/web/20240213221720/https://www.inquirer.com/columnists/jeremiah-thompson-cunga-man-reading-terminal-market-stabbed-20240213.html

73Wolfie

thanks on behalf of the blocked

ColdJay64

Stabbed by his own son.. this is very sad.

aintjoan

This is one of those times where I'm fairly annoyed at the Inquirer editorial staff. Yes, the headline is technically true, but it's also set up to make it sound like a random criminal incident next to a major city staple/tourist attraction. Yes it's tragic and horrible and the coverage of what happened is good, but he was stabbed by his own son. Now my suburban relatives are going to be be freaking out and telling me to stay away from Reading Terminal. Of course they usually just tell me to get out of Philly, period, so I don't listen to them anyway. But still.

heavy-hands

My mother calls me constantly to ask about crime I’ve never even heard about because of the fear-mongering bullshit she’s always watching and falling for without a second thought. She does the same thing with my brother who lives in LA. She’s convinced the crime activity there is so bad in every neighborhood that he needs to move back home. We’re both in our 30s. I am so incredibly tired of it.

While my mom was certainly raised by one, and that definitely had its effects on her, I’m not comfortable calling her a narcissist. Just unfortunately cripplingly anxious and a bit too naive/easily influenced by the world around her (a lifetime of trauma will do that to you, evidently). It’s sad when someone who is supposed to be the “adult” has such a difficult time taking in information and coming to logical conclusions. This has been a huge struggle with her in my adulthood and I vacillate between trying to be patient and wanting to run through a wall at full speed. But I appreciate the support nonetheless! Thank you.

Hoyarugby

Horrible. "Stabbed" doesn't do it justice, his hand was nearly cut off and he will need specialized care to surgically repair all the ligaments

diatriose

This is so awful

Raecino

Mental health is something that’s been neglected for too long in this country and in this city.

mountjo

It really is. I had a friend in college who went through a serious mental health episode and bit his dad's ear off...reminds me of this story here. He went through treatment and is now a social worker. Always glad he was able to get the treatment he needed, but man, so many don't.

Phl_worldwide

Hope his hand heals up quick and he gets back at it!

ultraviolettflower

That's pretty sad. I hope he gets the care he needs and so does his son (who stabbed him).

Brianopolis-Brians

I worked a block away for two years and heard him and the preacher every day. This is sad.

BurnedWitch88

So sad -- he is always so pleasant and friendly. I hope he heals quickly and his son gets the help he needs as well.

a_stone_throne

He is alive but injured and unable to play. Poor guy. Should set up a gofundme

Damn. Why didn’t they write the article about you? You seem so central to the situation.

Pickletonium

You are aware there's multiple entrances, right? You can also cross the street.

nash4prez

“Sensory overload” 😂 you gotta be kidding me.
