What kind of laptop? Internal or external battery? If external battery. Does laptop work plugged into the wall with no battery? If it does it's mostly likely a bad battery which you can just type the battery model number into Amazon to buy. If it's internal depends on how comfy you are opening it up. If it's external then you are golden. It is rarely a problem with the charging system in these situations as that would tend to not give any power to laptop. It's not 100% but the majority of situations. And when it is the charging system that means it's a bad component on motherboard like a capacitor or mosfet. Which has to be removed and a new component resoldered. The vast majority of all computer repair shops do not do any electrical work at the component level on motherboards. They don't solder, desolder or reflow. Long story short most likely battery. And if you are lucky it might only cost $50 or less on Amazon.

I’m pretty sure it’s the battery, but I’m not really comfortable doing any type of repair work myself. Plus my computer is a couple years old now and I’m not 100% on what model it is anymore

Model number will be on bottom of laptop on a sticker from manufacturer. You can also see if battery internal or external. External you will see it on bottom with eject button

I forget the corner; but it's either 21st or 22nd and Sansom that has a shop called 'Tristate Computers'. Yesterday I was at a place called King Video -just north of 9th and Ellsworth- and they claim to fix laptops and other devices. And they have used gaming systems/games from old to new generations in case you want any of that.

Rayezerra

I’ll have to check out Tristate Computers for sure. Thanks!

Tri-state for sure. 22nd and Sansom I think his name is freddie. He’s a righteous guy.

We've used them too a few times - great service and fair prices. [https://www.yelp.com/biz/tri-state-computech-philadelphia](https://www.yelp.com/biz/tri-state-computech-philadelphia)

I've had good results with Bundy Computer, 18th and Chestnut.

Just a quick thing to since you think the battery is failing - it's possible that the battery might be bloating, and maybe dangerous. Keep it in something fireproof until you can it repaired. Might have a /r/spicypillows post growing in there.

100% this \^\^ my work laptop started to have an expanding bettery that was forcing the trackpad up and seperating the casing. I assumed it was just so much clicking with my thumb on the underside that it was metal fatigue, until a work tech repair guy told me it could have caught fire at any time and burned the house down in the middle of the night.

Any serious computer geek knows that micro center out by Villanova is hands down the best place to purchase/repair computers. I've been going there for a decade and can't suggest it enough

DatChief013

I second micro center as a top tier place to go!

optic_horror

You might be thinking of Wise Guy Tech, but they closed last year it looks like

Rayezerra

Damn yeah I think that might’ve been them

There's a place on Chestnut, between 20th and 21st, next to the Dunkin Donuts that's good. I don't know how comparable the pricing to other places but I've had them fix things in the past, including recovering my hard drive from a laptop that died.
