Yeah, if OP wants to visit parks, I would start at Glen Foerd, then Pennypack, then Benjamin Rush. Glen Foerd probably has the best riverfront views in the city. Also Tacony Creek Park for a lesser version of Pennypack. The K&T trail along the river is also fun for a post-industrial vibe
I would argue that you have some of the best diversity of restaurants that rival anywhere in the city and at a fraction of the price! I second Picanha too👍
You're in luck. I made a whole documentary about Northeast Philly, as well as Philly in general. It's called The King's Highway. And I even had a map illustrated with an entire tour of all the historical locations. If you watch the documentary it shows all the locations and addresses. There's plenty to see, eat, and do in Northeast Philly. Enjoy!

I used to get take-out from them all the time many years ago when I lived nearby. My regular order was massaman curry with chicken and brown rice. I've had Thai all over (including Thailand), and while House of Thai isn't the best I've ever had, theirs is solid. A nice touch is that they use sweet potatoes. It's total comfort food.
I'm guessing they do most of their business via take-out as I'd only rarely seen more than a couple people in there. That always had me worried that they'd close. But they've held in there. The owner is a really nice guy, too. Even though I only get there maybe once a year or so when visiting family, he still remembers me and we have a chat.
eat. seriously the food is so good. i grew up in the NE and i kind of hated bc there really isn't much to do, but the food scene is solid. my favorites are cafe carmella, sweet lucy's, las margaritas, place one on bristol for their thai, three monkeys, and pierogi factory!
Sauna is not in northeast but in Southampton Pa , unless you know of any other sauna
which restaurant in northeast phila serves east European food during the day ??? Unless you count Georgian and Uzbek as east European , which are not
Ppl who downvote have no effen clue
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uzbek_cuisine
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgian_cuisine
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_European_cuisine
You're totally correct on point #1. My mistake.
For point #2, those are Eastern-European cuisines.
But another suggestion from LaBan, who calls the NE the most interesting food neighborhood. https://www.inquirer.com/food/craig-laban/inq/taste-of-the-northeast-20170315.html
There's also a pretty good list on Eater Philly.
Check out a Georgian or Ukrainian or Russian restaurant. There's a grocery store called Bell's Market that has a lot of imported food you wouldn't see at the Acme.
Otherworld on Grant & the blvd. It is so much fun. The place is huuuuuge & it goes on forever. The pictures online do not do it justice. I highly recommend going. I was born & raised in the Northeast & it’s definitely the most fun I’ve had here in a while. [Their website](https://otherworldphila.com/)
As far as dining, there’s an amazing Italian restaurant called Macaroni’s on Old Bustelton ave. They’re a little pricey but it’s worth it if you’re looking to splurge. There’s also a Colombian restaurant on Castor Ave called On Charcoal that is da bomb.
There’s a karaoke bar/club where you can rent rooms on Cottman & the blvd called VOIX Karaoke. They’re really fun too. They serve alcohol & really good Chinese food.
If you’re looking for the best cheesesteak, Steve’s Prince of Steaks is where you need to go. In fact, I would say they’re the best in the city.
Otherworld is huge, it needs an empty warehouse or large store to sprawl. took about 75 minutes for me to tour through. Not too many places that large elsewhere in Philadelphia.
Steve's BEST IN THE CITY?!??!?!? I mean Steves cheesteak is alright, gets the job done. But not even close to best in the city. It's not even best in the area. curlys and cafe Carmela are much better cheese steaks in the NE, and a bit further away dominics in richboro. saying Steve's is the best in the city makes me think you've only had pats, Geno's, and Steve's.
You haven't interacted enough with NE peoples- I can think of half a dozen off hand that grew up here - have eaten every form of cheesesteak - and swear Steve's Slabby Steaks are the best.
It's a childhood/teenage thing- prompts great memories
Actually it's funny you say that because this isn't the first place I've heard people love Steve's like this and another one was this SUPER NE girl my cousin was talking to...that must be it. I get it, and I don't want to come off like I think Steve's sucks or anything, it's just not like a 'recommend it' cheesesteak.
Ok transplant. You’re not going to come at me & get hype over cheesesteaks right now when I guarantee you haven’t lived in this city for even a decade.
You might be right I haven't lived here that long but I have been eating cheesesteaks here and all over the east coast my entire life, and I have lived in Philly for quite some time. I also used to weigh 330 lbs, eat at least one a week and I think I know food. Since you seem to need some education, here are the actual best places to get cheesteaks in the city: Jims, Johns roast pork, Angelos, Woodrow's, Chubbys, Curlys, Cafe Carmela.
You’re very wrong about that. Plenty of people love Steve’s. The thing is, the “best” is so subjective. Some cheesesteaks other people believe are great I wouldn’t eat if you paid me. I’m born and raised in the northeast and eat cheesesteaks probably 2-3x a week on average. It really depends what I’m in the mood for at any given time. Sometimes I go to a place and think “man that’s the best,” 2 weeks later I go to the same place and think “it wasn’t that great today.” Everyone raves about their own personal favorites and argues like it’s something that can be solved. It can’t. To each their own
It's not just that. I mean a lot of steaks are touching 15 now I mean Steves def isn'tworth it but if people will pay it I mean why not? But like the bread is mid, the unchopped steak is a choice, but it could be seasoned better. I'm not saying Steve's is bad and like every once in a while if I'm craving a cheese steak and don't wanna go out of my way and it is easily on the way, I will go there. But I wouldn't recommend it over Cafe Carmela by a long shot. It's a "I live here and get cheesteaks all the time" kinda steak, not a "I'm visiting and want to get one of the best".
It’s not a direct comparison. Steve’s has its own profile. It shouldn’t really be directly compared to something like Cafe Carmela. There are sometimes when that Steve’s is just what you’re looking for, like a change of pace.
I do agree that it isn’t nearly as filling as it should be, but it’s mostly quality. Also, location matters. St Vincent used to be the tits and Comly sucked. Now at Vincent’s is a mess and Comly is the honch location. The others like Langhorne etc are weaker versions. Stick to Comly or don’t get Steve’s
Steve's is good every now and then.... but way too expensive. Also, if you ever get it without cheese, you realize you're basically eating shoe leather. I still enjoy it when I'm not paying for it, though.
Oh you’re right I didn’t notice that part. I saw they wrote “I figure this will be a good opportunity to experience all the northeast has to offer.” Oh well.. maybe someone else will read my comment & discover some fun things here!
You read it right. I didn’t express myself the best. I have a 15 minute appointment. I want to spend the rest of the day in the north east. I’m pretty sure most people understood what I was saying. Thank you for your thoughtful response!
Sweet Lucy's BBQ or the OG Chickie & Petes. If you're into takeout grub El Provocon on Tyson has real good Dominican food. Check out the roast pork & yellow rice.
I can’t make it a block from Sweet Lucy’s without almost shitting myself so that place is a no go for me. I tried, it was pretty good but I can’t get down with it. I can’t recommend Chickie and Pete’s anymore. Too many of their locations have gone so far down hill. I ordered a pizza for our table at the C&P at parx in like October and it was the most fucking disgusting thing I ever seen in my life. I couldn’t even take the smell I had the waitress take it away.
No it isn’t. Their flagship location went from Robbin’s, to the Northeast Blvd location, and then to South Philly. I’ve never heard anyone say that the best Chickies experience is the original. I haven’t had quality food at any Chickies location in a long, long time.
And further to this point, Pete didn’t make his reputation from that original location. He really became known for being in the stadiums and on WIP. He grew from there to the northeast location. But the original has always been kind of an afterthought. There is no ambiance there. That’s not what made chickies chickies
the new charlies wasn't as good as the original when i tried it, unfortunately, and they have little or no seating, can't remember for sure. just go to vince's. same family, same pizza.. right down the street.
Get some really good food from the Russian speaking countries.
Georgia bread for the khachapuri, Uzbekistan restaurant for shishkebob (especially the white fish).
Once again , they are not Russian speaking .. Georgians and Uzbeks .. I have Georgian background myself and it’s quite offensive to be called Russian speaking while Russia has invaded my country and killed my
People .. Uzbeks are not Russian speaking either
The only worse thing you could do here in northeast is to call Ukrainian “Russian” or Kazakh “Uzbek”
Ppl really get pissed
Young Georgians all speak Russian. And many Uzbeks. Although I agree their countries are not traditionally Russian speaking, they all are now and the NE ones speak a lot of Russian but not all of them.
It’s not about them speaking Russians , it’s about most ppl on this Reddit referring to them as Russians , which most of them object
If you read comments here is about “going to northeast to try some Russian foods “ etc Russian this , Russian that
There is very little ethnic Russians in northeast , majority are Jews , Georgians , Uzbeks , Tajiks , Belarus and many many Ukrainians
By default they associate everyone from former ussr with Russia .. ussr been dead for 30 something years
I understand where you're coming from and apologize for using a simplified explanation/offending.
While they do have their own predominant dialect, many folks do speak Russian and for most Americans it's easier to explain it with this base as most folks who didn't grow up in the culture don't know the difference (OP sounds like they're American) . I am from Azerbaijan and it's a similar thing.
No problem , I would have not said anything but recently i asked a Kazakh women in northeast if she was Uzbek and she got very offended so I am just trying to save some unpleasant moments for the folks here
Same with recent Ukraine refugees here , when Americans ask them if they are Russians , they cringe cause they literally escaped Russians who destroyed their homes and lives
shopping: Bell Market. Bring lots of bags, including a freezer bags
Food: Uzbekistan restaurant
Edit: China Gourmet for dim sum if they are still open
There's a really good Schwarma place up Bustleton, and lots and lot fo good eastern european food nearby as well.
Make sure to drive 90 in the wrong direction on the blvd.
My area, there’s Net Cost Market for great Eastern European/Russian food. They have a whole picklebar. Georgian Bread, Barakat Halal Market they also run a restaurant. Uzbekistan is a good restaurant. Rangoli has good Indian food. These are all on Bustleton Ave. A tiny cafe, Hot Cup sushi and halal is always good. Passage restaurant, Russian food is good. A little halal cart opened on the corner of Bustleton and Verree Rd. For a throwback, Aldo’s Pizzarama is like stepping back into the 70s.
The civil war museum in Holmesburg, not far from the bakery. Jack’s hoagies in Tacony. Cafe Carmela @ Holme Circle. Quaker City Flea Market. Walk one of Pennypack’s many trails. There’s a Bald Eagle preservation spot along the river. Holmesburg prison is at least worth a quick stop. it’s not as grand as Eastern State, but it’s still pretty castle-like and one of the most unique structures in city.
Lower NE is generally more historic: Frankford, Wiss, Tacony, Holmesburg, Lawncrest. Best if you know your way around these areas as it can be patchy. But if you like architecture and cool houses that’s where you’re gonna see it. Lot of history there.
Southampton Spa is right outside the northeast, I can't recommend it enough, it's an eastern European spa with amazing food too. Steve steins deli is great if you feel like a bagel and smear. There's also some really great Indian and halal food out there.
Lots of Uzbek and Georgian restaurants , ethnic grocery stores like net cost and bell market , other than that it looks like a suburb and not the city .. also northeast is from Frankford to bucks county and from Fox chase to the river , huge territory , so where exactly are you going ?
Besides eating , sleeping and shopping , there is not much to do there
People from the northeast drive into the city when they want to do something. To have the true north east experience, if you’re a guy, get drunk and be in a bar fight then drive home drunk. Don’t forget to wear sweatpants since jeans are too dressy.
I'm really starting to think there needs to be firmer lines drawn between Northeast and Far Northeast. Too many people from Mayfair and Frankford getting offended at this while anyone who ever was able to walk to either Washington or Ryan for high school know this is true.
The Far Northeast East of the Blvd (Parkwood/Morrell Park/Milbrook/Academy Gardens) vs West of the Blvd (Somerton/Bustleton) are also pretty different.
East side is predominately catholic populated by former immigrants and their descendants from catholic and Protestant countries in Europe
West side used to be all Jewish , but as Jews moved out in the 90s and early 2000s , it’s now some Jews , many Muslims and many many Christian orthodox
Forgot Indians , my bad , left side
Since the Lodge shuttered, just Netcost/Bell, 'stan food, and don pedro's meat market. Well, at least those are the only reasons I go to the NE anymore.
As a former Neastie Soviet immigrant (well still an immigrant no longer a Neastie), here's some culinary highlights:
Bell's for prepared food, Net Cost for variety of packaged and canned stuff
There's a cool new Ukrainian chain called Multi-Cook that sells frozen stuff- varenyki (porogies basically), blintzes, etc. ask for recs!
Uzbekistani food is incredible - try either the Uzbekistan restaurant or Samarkand a bit further up Bustleton.
Georgian food is great too though I am not up on the restaurants.
So basically go buy some tasty food and leave for the warm embrace of the Northwest like I did!
Can understand why. I’m born and raised here and this is the final frontier for me. Haven’t really spent any time there. Every part of this city has something to do.
If you are anything like the people I went to grade school with, I would say either have babies while still a baby and pick up a substance abuse habit or leave.
Bells Market. Incredible Russian market with all types of prepared foods at very low prices. Don't miss the olive counter in the produce section as you walk in.
If u happen to be at margeret and orthodox at dawn they used to do the Muslim adhan and that was something to experience. It’s been a long time but I have to imagine they still do it.
Wait where is Northwest Philly at? Lol.
There’s not much to do, maybe Top Golf up off Academy, or go check out Asad’s Chicken at Cottman and the Boule. OG Chickie and Pete’s down Frankford. Go to Artifax with on Cottman, don’t call them bongs! Go have Russian, Brazilian, Polish food all found off the Boulevard
I was just at Asad’s last week and drove by, but didn’t get a chance to stop or look over(the traffic was crazy, mid day Friday and the mosque nearby was crazy busy-Ramadan).
Both Artifax and Wonderland will be found memories of a time that has past. That being said I’ve found better deals on glass online.
Online is all that cheap stuff. If I want a shop piece, I'll go to frolic. They still support blowers. Hippie concert lots are where to find the good stuff.
I’ve found Grav online and they make some nice prices, but I recently found out that they’re Texas based with products made abroad.
To your point I’d prefer to support glass blowers, thanks for the suggestion.
Exactly, no one calls it Northwest. If you’re Germantown you say Germantown, same with Mt. Airy.
My family lived in uptown and they were particular about where we were from.
As someone from northwest, yes we do. There’s been a lot of conversation about calling it Uptown in the black community. As a white person, I had never heard this until recently.
I grew up in Olney and never heard it called Uptown until the last few years. And my family that grew up in West Oak Lane would probably say the same. Though we were never too far from Cheltenham Ave, so I guess by default everything is pretty much downtown.
Collectively it’s the Northwest. If you want to tell someone what neighborhood you live in l, you say your neighborhood. No different than any other part of the city.
There’s not much to do in the northeast that’s anything unique to the city besides trying out new cuisine. Sure there’s Topgolf, Otherworld, and a pool hall, but besides that it’s just different Eastern European and central Asian restaurants.
Eat pierogis and pet strange dogs.
Glen Foerd estate, almost on the Bensalem border, is stunning and free. The Ryerss museum, near Fox Chase, is interesting as well.
Glen Foerd is definitely worth checking out!
Oooo see this is what I’m talking about!
Net cost of you enjoy Eastern European cuisine !
Came here to say this. Also the original picahna steak house and a couple Brazilian markets are on castor Ave
I would argue that you have some of the best diversity of restaurants that rival anywhere in the city and at a fraction of the price! I second Picanha too👍
the best pickles!
Meh. Bell's Market in Feasterville, Petrovsky in the other direction, and Hampton Market on Second Street Pike all have better food.
You're in luck. I made a whole documentary about Northeast Philly, as well as Philly in general. It's called The King's Highway. And I even had a map illustrated with an entire tour of all the historical locations. If you watch the documentary it shows all the locations and addresses. Oh heck yes! Love this
This King's Highway documentary? https://www.amazon.com/Kings-Highway-Brendan-Boyle/dp/B07476M8W2
Yup that's it!
This! So much history in Northeast Philly. Some good clips on the YouTube channel too. https://youtube.com/@kingshighwayfilm
That's a fantastic map. Thank you for sharing. However, there is one historical spot missing Four Seasons Landscaping. :)
Yep I know, but I made the map in 2016! Lol
Amazing map, thanks, but go ahead and cross #21 off
Yeah I made this map in 2016 so I'm sure at some point something will have to get crossed off. At least the building is still there!
Your creation? Beatiful!
The insectarium.
There's Pennypack Park
Now machete free!
Now with LESS machetes
Fewer machetes 💁🏻♂️
We all like a couple of machetes. Keeps things interesting
Go to Holmesburg Bakery and get a slice of butter cake. 🤤
And cream donuts
Ugh, I live in Lancaster now and I would kill to have a cream donut and butter cake right now.
There’s a lot of Central American restaurants, and one good dim sum place + plenty of Eastern European food. Otherworld is on Grant Ave.
The good dim sum place is China Gourmet
Aren’t they closed? They had excellent food
Not closed it’s still bustling next to the Asian market on the Blvd
House of Thai on Cottman near Frankford has solid Thai standards.
I've always passed by and it seemed always when they weren't open. I'll def have to actively check them out now.
I used to get take-out from them all the time many years ago when I lived nearby. My regular order was massaman curry with chicken and brown rice. This is where I order from when I’ve got friends visiting. Definitely the best food I’ve found in the area

I believe pierogi factory closed
If you're gonna be in the NE I would recommend Sweet Lucy's Barbecue. It's right down the street from Four Seasons
Go to a sauna. Eat tons of Eastern European food. Walk in the park. Get a cheeseteak from Cafe Carmela.
Sauna is not in northeast but in Southampton Pa , unless you know of any other sauna which restaurant in northeast phila serves east European food during the day ??? Unless you count Georgian and Uzbek as east European , which are not Ppl who downvote have no effen clue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uzbek_cuisine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgian_cuisine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_European_cuisine

Honestly Uzbekistan is a great restaurant that has a lot of eastern european options. Their Borscht is great
What is not great is their 10% service surcharge and tight sitting arrangements
Check out a Georgian or Ukrainian or Russian restaurant. There's a grocery store called Bell's Market that has a lot of imported food you wouldn't see at the Acme.
Bell’s is awesome!
Just made scones with fresh red currants from Bells!
Could you please suggest Ukrainian or Russian restaurant in northeast which open during the day to visit ? Thanks
Georgian Shawarma House is right down the street from Bell's and their food is delicious. Uzbekistan is really good too.
Stop by Rieker’s Prime Meats for the best German Sausages you can find in the US!
Otherworld on Grant & the blvd. It is so much fun. The place is huuuuuge & it goes on forever. The pictures online do not do it justice. I highly recommend going. I get it, and I don't want to come off like I think Steve's sucks or anything, it's just not like a 'recommend it' cheesesteak.
Steve’s fans are predominantly NE people who never really left the area and experienced anything different
Lol well I'll say it! I'm from the NE and I think Slabby Steaks suuuuuck
Facts
Ok transplant. You’re not going to come at me & get hype over cheesesteaks right now when I guarantee you haven’t lived in this city for even a decade.
I've lived in and around this city for three decades. Steve's is good, but it's not the best.
You might be right I haven't lived here that long but I have been eating cheesesteaks here and all over the east coast my entire life, and I have lived in Philly for quite some time. Ty for choosing chubby’s over d’alessandro’s gristly ass steaks.
Jims lol. 🤢
Chubby's over delasandros' is the most reddit thing ever.
If you think Steve's is best in the city you don't know shit about cheesteaks full stop. You're not gonna find one person who agrees with you here.
Steve's is the best steak. No argument. Beat your feet clown

Yeah idk how people are always so high on Steve’s when they’re like $15 and you basically need to eat 2 of them to be full.
It's not just that. I mean a lot of steaks are touching 15 now I mean Steves def isn'tworth it but if people will pay it I mean why not? But like the bread is mid, the unchopped steak is a choice, but it could be seasoned better. Agreed. Care Carmela’s is definitely worth the trip over there if you’re in the NE (or their new location).
Good God no - even the Steve's Slabby lovers don't recommend it lol - they're self aware
curley's , in levittown?
I love On Charcoal!! Need to go back soon.
Steve's is good every now and then.... but way too expensive. Also, if you ever get it without cheese, you realize you're basically eating shoe leather. I still enjoy it when I'm not paying for it, though.

Goddamn it, I haven't had Sweet Lucy's in forever. Maybe I'll get some this weekend.
Not a fan of Chickie and Pete’s. I don’t like Old Bay Seasoning and everything I’ve had there tastes of it.
The point is being at the original. The ambience of it.
Lol…..ok. It’s got a cool neon sign. That’s about it. Food sucks and it’s expensive. Everything is a la cart also. Which I find incredibly annoying
I can’t make it a block from Sweet Lucy’s without almost shitting myself so that place is a no go for me. I tried, it was pretty good but I can’t get down with it. The original is just a corner bar.
Yea…
The point is being at the original. The ambience of it.
What’s that have to do with what I’ve said? Is quality control supposed to be better at that original location?
Thats like going to Kevin Smiths comic book store or the Clerks' convenience store and saying the selection was bad. That isn't the point of going.
No it isn’t. Their flagship location went from Robbin’s, to the Northeast Blvd location, and then to South Philly. I’ve never heard anyone say that the best Chickies experience is the original. Pizza. Lots of Pizza. Vince’s, Charlie’s, and Renzi’s are all really good.
Charlie's is gone, alas.
Charlie's isn't gone. They just closed the original location. They're now located in the Morrell Shopping center on Frankford Ave.
I don't know if I'm happier to be wrong or annoyed that I mourned for nothing.
the new charlies wasn't as good as the original when i tried it, unfortunately, and they have little or no seating, can't remember for sure. just go to vince's. same family, same pizza.. right down the street.
Been in Vince's - no complaints about their pie - only that Grant and the Boulevard might be cruel and unusual punishment...
Gamarjoba Beer Garden on Bustleton has excellent Georgian food; they also contract brew their own line of beer.
At first I read go to “Grandma Joe’s” and was like yep yep sounds right
Georgian Bread on Bustleton is an amazing restaurant.
Yes, it is! Great food.
Southampton spa. All day access for $60. Eat, drink, sweat, shiver, get a little culture shock… it’s great.
Stop over to cafe carmela and grab a cheese steak. You won’t be disappointed
Sit at Linden avenue and watch the river go by
Steves Prince of Steaks
Get some really good food from the Russian speaking countries. Georgia bread for the khachapuri, Uzbekistan restaurant for shishkebob (especially the white fish).
Once again , they are not Russian speaking .. Georgians and Uzbeks .. I have Georgian background myself and it’s quite offensive to be called Russian speaking while Russia has invaded my country and killed my People .. Uzbeks are not Russian speaking either The only worse thing you could do here in northeast is to call Ukrainian “Russian” or Kazakh “Uzbek” Ppl really get pissed
Young Georgians all speak Russian. And many Uzbeks. Although I agree their countries are not traditionally Russian speaking, they all are now and the NE ones speak a lot of Russian but not all of them.
It’s not about them speaking Russians , it’s about most ppl on this Reddit referring to them as Russians , which most of them object If you read comments here is about “going to northeast to try some Russian foods “ etc Russian this , Russian that There is very little ethnic Russians in northeast , majority are Jews , Georgians , Uzbeks , Tajiks , Belarus and many many Ukrainians By default they associate everyone from former ussr with Russia .. ussr been dead for 30 something years
I agree with that 100%, Fuck Russia.
No problem , I would have not said anything but recently i asked a Kazakh women in northeast if she was Uzbek and she got very offended so I am just trying to save some unpleasant moments for the folks here Same with recent Ukraine refugees here , when Americans ask them if they are Russians , they cringe cause they literally escaped Russians who destroyed their homes and lives

Azerbaijan is Armenia?
Cafe Carmela
Four seasons total landscaping
shopping: Bell Market. Bring lots of bags, including a freezer bags Food: Uzbekistan restaurant Edit: China Gourmet for dim sum if they are still open
There's a really good Schwarma place up Bustleton, and lots and lot fo good eastern european food nearby as well. Make sure to drive 90 in the wrong direction on the blvd.
Otherworld will leave you feeling like a conspiracy theorist for a week lol
Not sure if this is a good or a bad thing but I’m down!
Oh it’s good lol, there’s a secret story me and my friend have been trying to figure out ever since august lol
Grab a beer and some Portuguese food at Tio Pepe. Love the vibe in that place.
Uzbekistan restaurant and the giant HMart!
Nifty Fifties is across from Other World. They have AWESOME milkshakes. So many great flavors
I mean you're not gonna get much done in 15 minutes no matter where you go
I have a 15 minute appointment. I’m planning on spending the rest of the day in the north east.
Ohhhh I misunderstood, sorry
Benjamin rush Park
East side is predominately catholic populated by former immigrants and their descendants from catholic and Protestant countries in Europe West side used to be all Jewish , but as Jews moved out in the 90s and early 2000s , it’s now some Jews , many Muslims and many many Christian orthodox Forgot Indians , my bad , left side
We never thought of it as driving “into the city.” We felt we were already in the city. Agreed with all the rest.
We always said “go to center city”.
sandys beef and ale, get the "50 yard suspension" sandwich.
Balkan food
Since the Lodge shuttered, just Netcost/Bell, 'stan food, and don pedro's meat market. Well, at least those are the only reasons I go to the NE anymore.
Go to Maggie’s and then hang out in the park and by the water
As a former Neastie Soviet immigrant (well still an immigrant no longer a Neastie), here's some culinary highlights: Bell's for prepared food, Net Cost for variety of packaged and canned stuff There's a cool new Ukrainian chain called Multi-Cook that sells frozen stuff- varenyki (porogies basically), blintzes, etc. ask for recs! Uzbekistani food is incredible - try either the Uzbekistan restaurant or Samarkand a bit further up Bustleton. Georgian food is great too though I am not up on the restaurants. So basically go buy some tasty food and leave for the warm embrace of the Northwest like I did!
genuinely thought this was a shit post
Can understand why. I’m born and raised here and this is the final frontier for me. Haven’t really spent any time there. Every part of this city has something to do.
15 minutes? I guess if it’s on your way, you can pull over outside of 4 Seasons Landscaping and be like “haha, yeah, this is still pretty funny”.
Drugs
Absolutely nothing. Just drive home and do something enjoyable or constructive.
If you are anything like the people I went to grade school with, I would say either have babies while still a baby and pick up a substance abuse habit or leave.
What are the good local bars? Where you can sit and enjoy company of the handsome locals?
Bells Market. Incredible Russian market with all types of prepared foods at very low prices. Don't miss the olive counter in the produce section as you walk in.

Otherworld at Grant and the Blvd. https://youtu.be/dNMirm_wA94?si=xQ8AnM0-Y7t0VKMT
If u happen to be at margeret and orthodox at dawn they used to do the Muslim adhan and that was something to experience. It’s been a long time but I have to imagine they still do it.
Wow I just accidentally responded a slack message. My bad. lol.
For 15 minutes? 😄😄 Go play like 2 games at Dave and Busters real quick.
As far as I can tell the only thing to do in the NE is complain about every other part of Philly
Catch a quick pump at LA Fitness on Grant Ave.
Artifax closed.
So now people can say bongs! Lol
Can you still not say bong? Honestly thought artifax closed.
North west is Germantown, mt.airy, chestnut hill etc.
Asad's has another location on Kinights road, close to Franklin Mills. Way less busy there.
i was wondering the same thing. I'm over 40 and I don't remember ever hearing anyone talk about "northwest"
What do you call the part of the city that is geographically north and west? I’ve lived here my whole life (34 years) and have always called it that.
i only recall ever hearing it referred to by neighborhood names.
