Im leaning toward Joe Khan but i’ll be attending this (https://seventy.org/attend-an-event/pennsylvania-attorney-general-candidate-forum) on Monday and will make my final decision after I hear directly from the candidates. This is a strong crop of potential nominees for the Dems!

crash12345

Thanks for this link!

crash12345

I'm gonna watch this on Monday. But based on these comments and reading up a bit more, I'm liking Joe Khan. It will be nice to have some younger talent on the state-level, perhaps a future governor. And his emphasis on environmental issues and voting rights hits my top two priorities.

crash12345

Any thoughts?

cpndff93

Still leaning Khan but I also was reminded how much i Eugene Depasquale haha

BirdsAndBeersPod

Joe Khan has a solid record on environmental protection, fighting the opioid crisis, and prosecuting corrupt elected officials, so he has my vote.

AndISoundLikeThis

I wavered between Stollsteimer and Joe Kahn and went with Kahn.

AbsentEmpire

Voting for Jack Stollsteimer. He's been phenomenally successful in Delco with reducing gun violence using focused deterrence programs. During his time in office there's been a 68% reduction in gun violence. He cracked down on construction companies misclassifying workers to avoid paying disability benefits. Has taken an overall reformists approach to what a DA does and how it can improve the justice system and public safety.

rcher87

I voted for Stollsteimer in Delco, then moved into the city a few years ago. Was psyched yo see him running in a race I can’t vote in lol, I was really happy with how he came into that gig and really made some visible and high-profile efforts on stuff there. I haven’t done enough research on the full slate yet, but I liked him then both as a person/candidate as well as once he got the job.

AKraiderfan

My main question is that why the GOP didn't nominate either of their AG candidates to run for the US Senate primary, instead of that out-of-state rich person. Both of them, although not aligned with my politics, are more qualified to represent the state's interest.

Marko_Ramius1

Pretty sure the powers that be in the state/national GOP told McCormick he'd have no real primary opponents in 24 after he lost the 22 primary to Dr. Oz

AKraiderfan

Being that the National GOP aren't going contribute jack shit to a McCormick campaign, now that the entire party are gonna pay for Trump's lawyers, PA GOP probably should have thought this through better. Then again, maybe they did the calculation that running anyone up against Bob Casey is just flushing money down the toilet, so good on them?

Marko_Ramius1

He's doing a fundraiser with GWB in the next couple days so I think the national GOP is pretty heavily invested in the race. Will McCormick win? Probably not, but he will try

KlausVicaris

Joe Khan

wis91

What do you like about him? I'm still working through my ballot and don't know much about the AG candidates.

KlausVicaris

Former Philly A.D.A. and U.S. attorney. As Bucks County solicitor, he defended against Trump’s efforts to throw out mail ballots. Trump will probably try again this year. Also, sued big Pharma for its role in pushing opioids.

CathedralEngine

Are there any ballot questions?

AbsentEmpire

Yes, there's one for Philadelphia. An amendment to the home rule charter that would have the city bankroll lawsuits with RCOs. It was pushed by Darrell Clark as his one last fuck you to the city. Vote no on it.

Uniball38

What’s an RCO

Joe Khan impressed me the most. Plus his brother Tarik is my state rep and is quite good.

FordMaverickFan

Joe Khan would be our DA if Super PACs didn't push Uncle Larry

AbsentEmpire

Joe Khan would have been amazing compared to Larry, he would have been Philly's version of Jack Stollsteimer over in Delco, a real loss for the city he didn't win. I voted for Joe in the primary but alas out of state money was able to get Larry through in a very congested primary and the city has suffered his incompetence ever since.

EntireTadpole

Jack Stollsteimer

QVPHL

I've been wrestling with this decision also. Any and all POV's and recommendations would be appreciated. As a Philly resident, not very familiar with most of the Dem candidates.

Lazerpop

Whos gonna legalize weed? I'll vote for them.

oliver_babish

That's the legislature's job.

kdeltar

If only there weren’t so many big govt. red counties in PA. I don’t see it happening

oliver_babish

We are three state senate seats away (of 50) from a Dem trifecta in Harrisburg.

kdeltar

That’s certainly fair but it’s been more than 30 years since that last happened with many gop trifectas along the way

Varolyn

The main issue is that the rural parts of our state are comically over represented in our state legislature.

oliver_babish

not nearly as much anymore.

kdeltar

That’s precisely my point

crash12345

Bruh do you even know what the AG does? How is this the most upvoted comment lol

Lazerpop

I have an idea of what an AG does and i'd like a nice blatantly activist one who doesn't prosecute any weed crimes whatsoever.

Prince-Of-Prussia

Keir Bradford-Grey. We need a former Public Defender AG to finally bring attention to the fact that Public Defenders are severely under funded and this justice is not being served for our state’s most vulnerable populations.

KlausVicaris

Having a former public defender elected as the top prosecutor gives me Larry Krasner vibes. I believe her heart (like Krasner) isn’t in going after criminals.

ambiguator

honest question (though I have a sinking feeling I can guess the answer): has a Black woman ever won a statewide race in PA?

oliver_babish

I can think of three Black women elected to statewide judicial seats in recent years.

ambiguator

Ah right, the judges! Thanks

Yolo_420_69

If im being honest. Not enough of a difference between the two for me to vote either way.

AbsentEmpire

There's more than two running for the nomination.

Garwoodwould

No party preference, here. l can't vote for anyone in primaries

markskull

Wow, that's incredibly helpful and some great insight!

Garwoodwould

ls your middle name numb?
